  1. I have been using CarPlay for awhile now (IPhone 6, iOS8.1.3) on the NEX 4000 and all worked pretty well. Suddenly I am having lots of problems getting anything to work, such as, Click on Maps, Maps Loads, click on search, no Siri and if I speak "Take me home" nothing happens. However, if I manually type in a location into the phone and then hit start, it will navigate and display the maps. Click on Messages, or a received message that does show, CarPlay appears to read it, but you do not hear anything, and it will not reply Click on Phone, and it does not ask you who to call. If you ma
  2. Once you click to adjust volume, you will see an alerts button on the end ov the volume bar. Click on that and see if it is set to zero. It is a nice feature once you realize it is there becasue it lets you independently set the alerts volume (like map directions) fromyour music volume etc.,
  3. Good input, I guess the question is this? What is actually happening when you transfer a file using yur iphones lightning adaptor into the USB1 of the Pioneer unit. is that what you mean by "bits are bits" And Is that bypassing your phones DAC altogehter and only using the superior DAC on the headunit? Here is what I noticed which is what got this entire string going. Up until yesterday, I was using a iphone 4s and it connected to the Pioneer using a ligntning cable with a 30pin adaptor so it would fit my iphone. When I compared the audio quality by playing the same song (file) via t
  4. Jhren -- please tell us more then. In your opinion, would there be a difference in sq from the same song coming through an SD card vs the USB connection via an iPhone/pod? Would the 30 pin differ from the lightning adaptor?
  5. Thank you Free & Epsilonkore for your input. I did find another blog from several years ago, 2011, where a poster who indicated he was a sound engineer commented that the output from the iPhone is not as good as the SD card given that the 30pin connector needs to convert the digital signal to analog so that the Pioneer unit can receive it properly and then use its DACs to convert it back to digital, (or something like that). So even though the Pioneer has excellent DAC's, the transferring of the music causes a loss of integrity. This is a tough call because as I transfer music over t
  6. Thank you for the input. I am convinced of the two theories outlined above however, and admittedly, I cannot find any discussion on audio sites on either of them. So I appreciate any discussion from audiophiles on this forum. There is plenty of discussion on the "quality of output" from different iPhones and direct connection vs wireless but I have not seen any comparisons of the SD Card connection vs iPhone USB connection. Nor have I seen any discussion of perceived degradation over time from an iPhone which can be corrected by resetting the iPhone. (Although restoring the iPhone is ofte
  7. Has anyone noticed that a song played via the SD card sounds superior to the same song played via the iphone (and direct connection)? I am considering transferring my entire library to the SD card, apple carplay notwithstanding, becasue of this. I have also noticed that if you periodically clear all your settings in the iPhone or do a full restore that it improves the sound quality. Has anyone else experienced this?
  8. Yes it works, but simply say the entire commancd such as "Hey Siri, call Sarah on mobile." In other words, dont wait for the voice prompt.
  9. Thank you pjrm68 for the alerts tip!
  10. Set athe HIgh Pass Filters to around 100 and you will be fine. YOu are sending too much power to the factory speakers.
  11. Ok, I have upgraded the firmware to ios8.1 on my iphone as well as the firmware to 1.8 on the NEX4000, but still having significant blue tooth issues. Calls come in, but when you click answer, it just locks up and you end up pulling the phone out and trying to answer manually which becomes quite dangerous. Sometimes the phone does not connect. And on Carplay, I cannot seem to turn down the siri voice when using maps. She is so loud even when I configure maps to be on low voice. Resetting everything seems to help temporarily but not permanenetly. How are others doing with the firmware u
