  1. i think the lack of wireless carplay is a limitation of the unit. I read somewhere today that to initiate that, you have to start in the car by pressing and holding the voice control button on the steering wheel. anyone know what button equivalent they might be talking about on the Nex's screen(s)? http://fieldguide.gizmodo.com/7-things-you-can-do-in-ios-8-3-that-you-couldnt-before-1696699731
  2. i'm running iOS 8.2 and am having no problem with the album art from Spotify. And it does look better - like a better quality picture file is being used. I noticed that this morning, and thought that it was just me thinking i was seeing that, but apparently others see it as well.

you won't be able to have carplay functionality though. But you can play music from it and control through the NEX.

    yeah that should work.
  5. i just switched mine off, and i don't really notice any difference in the behavior of the phone. Haven't been in the car yet to see how differently it behaves through CarPlay.
  6. So with the Mirabox you connect your phone to it via bluetooth, and then you can control your phone by using the touchscreen on the NEX? i assume you just set the NEX unit to HDMI? Would audio go through the NEX as well?
  7. I've tried saying everything together, trying to break it up, repeating "hey, siri", etc. etc... When plugged in on the charger in my home or office, it works great, without having any pause between saying "hey, siri" and the command. In the car however, the phone seems to hear the "hey, siri" part, but then misses the command. I'm hoping that functionality gets refined in upcoming iOS updates - i think it's an useful tool when it works correctly.
  8. I posed the "Hey, Siri..." question a little while ago. it seems like some people have it working just fine. For me, it seems like it still needs a little coaxing to work - i have to say "hey, siri" and then it pulls up the voice recognition screen (with the little sound wave on the bottom of the screen), and then i need to say "hey siri" again (and sometimes a third time) and then it works. http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/80416-does-hey-siri-command-work-for-you-guys/ One thing i can't get to work very well is using siri to get directions somewhere. i'd like to be able to say
  9. Hi, Barry - I've been running into a similar or the same issue for the last couple weeks or so. I was thinking it was an issue with CarPlay and/or the iPhone. I don't have the speed warnings set up, but the iPhone does the same thing when the notification sound for a text or email is played (reduces volume, sounds notification, and returns volume to original level). Occasionally, I'd hear the volume decrease and anticipate hearing the received email notification, but nothing would happen, and the volume would remain at the reduced level. One thing I noticed would remedy the situation
  10. That's odd, veet. I have a 5S with 8.1.1 and everything seems to work fine. Are the songs that you're trying to play physically downloaded on your iPhone? i.e. Maybe they are not physically downloaded (but accessible from the cloud) so the NEX lets you see them, but can't access them. Does Spotify work without issue?
  11. In iOS 8, Siri is now able to respond to commands when the phone is plugged in just by simply saying, "Hey, Siri...[and the command]". It actually works pretty well when using just the phone. I noticed it also seems to try to work when plugged into the NEX. If the music volume is low enough, saying "Hey, Siri" bring up the voice command screen, but it doesn't seem to turn the microphone on after hearing "Hey, Siri" to hear your command. Has anyone tried this with any success with the NEX units?
  12. Joe, it sounds like you have a good setup. what is "scared (64GB)", and why and why split up lossless and lossy files? Also, what plug(s) do you use for your phone? is it the lightnight to HDMI adapter thing? I am more like the others, though. I have defaulted to CarPlay and it's just a matter of time before i pull the unit out and use USB 2 for a mass storage of some sort. I don't mind switching back and forth between CarPlay and the basic radio interface, since it's only a touch of a button. I do find myself using the Pioneer's navigation more than the Apple one though. i t
  13. I installed the 8000 a little over a month ago and am enjoying the unit very much. It has its pros and cons like everything, but all-in-all I'm very pleased. I am disappointed that using CarPlay and AppRadio modes are not seamless at all, and are to a point mutually exclusive (since you have to alter settings and change cables in order to switch between the two). My question is this: what do you folks mostly use, and why? I find myself using CarPlay most often - are there any compelling arguments against that? Due to the difficulty in switching back and forth, i kind of feel like you
