  1. No, they don't work worth a crap.  You just don't know it because you didn't research it as well as you thought you did.  You live in a community of barely 100,000 people.  Go to a place with a few million and lots of feeder freeways and come back and tell us just how well they work.  If you want to be able to see 2 miles in front of you (that's right...I said TWO!) you can't do it.  Expanding the setting out as far as they will go may not give you a mile.  So you pinch the map out and it fills the screen with crap and your location is no longer centered on the map...it will scroll right off it.

The old Z series maps are a hundred times better.  Too bad the unit itself isn't near as good or I would re-install mine so fast it would make your head spin.

Right on....so somewhere like Minneapols...would that "rate" high enuff for you...so I'm telling you as you wanted to hear..it worked fine for myself. Notice I speak for myself, you speak for everyone...funny how that happens. Stop whining ..sell the unit and move on or back or wherever you'll feel good about yourself.

  2. You guys have to read, that means the entire thread.....I never knew how to do this other than simple copy/paste...I had to read all the info..all the mistakes and tidbits and pitfalls people went through. Most people wont hand feed when the info is in the thread...I had to read and now I have to find the info for YOU...cmon...STOP BEING LAZY.

Everytime I check this thread someone wants a handout...read...then read it again..read other threads so you get the info..slang....lingo...technical terms people are using.

The first spoiler has the  file....pick the correct one for your application

Follow the instructs, that will patch the nav software open to accept the changes.

NEVER ENTER COPY DEVICE MODE, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!

    Instruction to install patch

    • Download file corresponding to your navigation version. You can check your version in About/Version information in maps application.
    • Unpack/unrar downloaded file into FAT32-formatted USB stick, insert stick into USB1 (USB2 isn't working). POWER unit
    • Your device will reboot into testmode.
    • Select Write program forcedly => Copy Script, script will patch your system( IT wont say you correctly applied ANYTHING...it will simply reboot.
    • Remove USB stick after script finishes.

All that file does is get you into testmode, the script is a diff operation...you enable the script

    (4. Select Write program forcedly => Copy Script, script will patch your system and reboot.)

    which patch's the nav software.

    Loading Map files:

I took the same USB with the same files on it and added the new map files in the matching folders....( YES you create the folders and sub folders)...that the files will go into

on the unit( so I can remember where they go).

    http://www.gpspower.net/igo-tutorials/304319-where-put-igo-different-files.html

I also created a folder called Backup on the usb

    So once again-

    • insert stick into USB1 (USB2 isn't working).
    • Your device will reboot into testmode.
    • NOTICE.....your not applying any script or patch
    • Using the built in file manager-> Linux Root-->extdata-->iGO...I copied the license and contents folders  off my unit and pasted into my Backup folder on the usb.(patience this can take some time)
    • You likely( I cant rem) wont get some pretty notice that everything copied.....make sure..dig around and check it out
    • Once your sure they are backed up...go back into the license and contents folders on the unit and into the sub folders and delete the files your going to replace..FILES...NOT SUB FOLDERS
    • Now you go to those exactly named folders and sub folders on the usb and copy/move the contents onto the unit in the coresponding correct folders and sub folders.
    • Patience...wait for it to fin...might take 5 mins..maybe 20 mins

Now if this is all to much for you...dont try it.

    NEX 8000

  3. I searched and searched the internet and was unable to find an image of the original SD card.

    Is there one out there?

I believe what he's suggesting is you disassemble the unit, remove the internal sd card( not the card you insert from behind the face) either reflash a stock image on that sd card or buy a replacement...reflash/write the stock image and reinsert and reassemble.

  4. Hi all,

I've read through so many threads on this stuff but am really confused.

Does someone have the 8100NEX and successfully got the USA/Canada Q3 update installed?

If so could you please PM me how exactly you did it?

    I have the following:

    1. MapPackage

    2. x100_1.05_9.18.28.610130

    3. A whole bunch of USA/Canada Q3 content and a bunch of licenses

    4. I've have the following folder structure:

    MapPackage-->Updates-->Content-->

    -building

    -fjw

    -fpa

    -ftr

    -map

    -poi

I'm not sure what else I need and I'm not sure I have all of the required licenses...

    MapPackage-->Updates-->License-->

What exact licenses should I have?

I'm stuck from here and don't know if I have all of what I'm supposed to have and if it's all in the right place for that matter

    I'd appreciate

Take the x100_1.05_9.18.28.610130 folder and put your Update file with the content folder with the diff folders( Put the Lic folder at same level as content.) on the usb key in usb1.  The test key in the patch script(no need to apply the patch again) will get you in, then dig down file maint/root/exdata/igo. I copied my content and lic file off the unit to the usb1. Then I deleted them off the unit. Then I copied the Q3 content and lic file from the usb1 to the unit.

  5. can someone hook me up with a ready to go zip file or somethig that i an put on an sd card? i need to get europe maps including germany but dont have the time to do all the sorting through the websites looking for the maps, pois and licenses and stuff. i am more than willing to pay for it

With all the time you have spent asking this same question you would have had it done by now.

  6. My 8000 just did this yesterday. Navi worked fine Sunday, yesterday (monday) I tried to change the clock by going into the navi settings. Stuck on "Loading iGo" (which I've never seen it do) and then returns to black screen. I (luckily) have one month left on the warranty so it's going back to Pioneer today. Not sure why we can't re-flash software on our end, I'm not expecting a quick turnaround.

Im guessing the next thing you did was factory reset the unit and what was the result?
