  1. Again, ducatiboy comes through with flying colors. I was able to burn the iso image into a usuable update cd and the unit updated just fine.

And the good news is the 2 wire bypass is unaffected--all funtions are still available while driving including DVD viewing!!

Now i just need someone to call to see if the echo has been fixed.

If anyone needs the update CD, just let me know and I will be happy to mail it out to you.

  2. Had a feeling something like that was going on...when I clicked on the iso file on my computer, a CD copy program opened and asked if I wanted to burn the CD....Just like it was supposed to.

Will give it another try and report back on the installation and the 2 wire bypass.

You are a life saver..Thanks again!!

  3. woodman, what exactally did you do to get the update to work? I have the same problem you did. All i get is cd rom inserted after putting in the cd. I've tried inserting it on both the av and map screens but get the same response.

Do you need to put the iso file in any type of folder? i just burned it all by itself on the cd. Do I need to include dummy data with it to equal at least 100mb?

I have the newer HU that is bypassed using the two ground wires since the flasher circuit did not work.

Any input on this problem would help.

    Thanks

  4. I had a Parrot and it switched over to the phone with a touch of a button on the caller ID display. Sure was nice when you wanted a little privacy during the call.

No such luck with the Z1. Most likely, you will have to push the menu button on the phone while you're on the call and look for a Bluetooth Disconnect or Privacy setting. That should break the Bluetooth connection and give you some privacy while on the call. You will most likely have to turn Bluetooth back on when your done to go back to handsfree.

Kinda of a pain but this is just one a a handful of things Pioneer left out of this unit during development.
  5. No, your circuit is not installed. I wanted to make sure the unit responded to the override before I put the circuit in.

I am turning the lights on when the the very fisrt text type is on the screen and turning them off when the color logo appears. Is that not right?

I really want this to work. Im pretty sure I have a June 06 unit but cant seem to over ride the system. If I'm still having trouble, I will pull the unit and verify the date on the case.
  6. Im pretty sure its a june 06 unit but I cant get the flasher to override the system. Every other function works like it is supposed to including dimming the unit when I turn on the lights so I assume that the unit is wired right.

Im Turning on the light as soon as I see the pioneer boot screen and turning them off as soon as the logo appears. No cigar. Still locked out unless stopped and ebarake grounded.

Dont know what to do at this point but look for an older unit and swap it out.

    Any suggestions?
  7. It appears the units made in June 06 have had the flasher bypass fixed. I just bought a new unit and couldn't get the ducati boy flasher circuit to work. Sent it back since the cd wouldnt eject and got another June 06 Z1. After installing it, I tried the flasher bypass but, just as in the first one, this one too did not open up all the functions after flashing my light at boot up. I did not install the circuit since it would do the same thing as I did manually.

It appears pioneer closed the back door or at least buried it deeper into the software. I guess there is no marine application anymore.

    Bummer
  8. How is the screen quality on the Z1? Very Good. 1440 X 234 pixels

Does the Z1 mute or lower your speakers when the nav voice comes on?
Yes ...Can be muted down to -20db

Is the nav voice through all speakers? You can have to play through all the speakers or select the left or right.

Is there echo with the bluetooth setup? If you set the phone volume low and use the right speaker the echo is almost non exsistant.

Can I turn on the rear camera manually? Yes, to some extent. The mapping screen has a rear camera option where 2/3 of the screen is rear view from the camera and the other 1/3 is the map display. Very useful when your navigating and pulling a trailer.

Are the vehicle dynamic features just an after thought or are they actually cool and somewhat useful? Not a whole lot of info here...mostly from the gyro sensors as for slope and accelleration.

How si the voice recognition? Is it actualy useful? Do you find yourself not using it in favor of the buttons because it is "less hassle"? The voice recognition is pretty cool and one of the main reasons I went with the Z1. You can input an entire destination with ever touching the screen.

How is the MP3 interface that get burned to the HDD? What about the bitrate? I'm assuming 128k, if so, that sucks. The unit records CD's into mp3 at 160k which is pretty good but wont fill up the HDD as fast as 192k.

How is the larning feature of the nav? Is it really useful? I drive this back ass way to work everyday to avoid traffic. It would be nice if the nav learned that! Yes, the Z1 learns which way you like to travel and incorporates that into it's routing.

Has anybody used the RCA audio in for an mp3 player? If so, do you have any problems? The Eclipse has horrible line noise and it picks up the HDD off of my mp3 player! I use the AUX IN on my system and it sounds great. No poping or hissing.

I havent owned anything other than this unit but im pretty happy with it. Good luck with you decision.

  9. I know the Z1 shows you the next street when you have a route programed in but what I want is the unit to show me the next street when I dont have anything being routed.

My Garmin displays the next street you are approaching as you driving just while it is in the normal map mode. It is very useful if you know where you are going but cant really see the street signs due to darkness.

Does anyone know if the Z1 will do the same thing? Ill I can see is that it displays the street and city you are in but doesnt state the next street approaching. You have to have the map zoomed in and read the street name off the map display (if its there). I would just like to look down and see the next street printed on the bottom line of the display.
  10. Just to let you all know...I think the problem is with my Z1...NOT DUCATIBOY's FLASHER! I guess the choice of words in my post could have been better.

I new Z1 and flasher are on the way and will be installed by Wed. I will update this post with the results.

Sorry Ducatiboy for any negative unattended publicity. You are a great asset to this forum.
  11. One thing I really liked about my garmin unit was that it displayed the next street you were coming to as you drove. I noticed that the Z1 just displays the current street that ur on and only displays the next street during routing directions.

Is there a way to have the Z1 display the next street ur approaching instead of the current one ur driving on?
  12. okay....my version number states "01.0000" . Is that the same as all of you have?

eap...i cant believe ur unit worked after the circuit was reinstalled. I think I will print out ur reply and show it to my installer and maybe I can convince him to give it another try.

Ducatibay...thanks for ur offer to send me out another circuit. I think I will take you up on that offer. You just sent it to me last week Fed Ex overnight. But there seems to be another glitch with my unit. The cd player wont eject. The installer put in a movie in to show me the dvd function and now he cant get it back! Since the unit is spanking brand new, he will order me another one on Monday and install it on Tuesday. Can you get one to me by than? Also...if we can make ur circuit work, he is VERY interested on stocking them in his shop($$$$).

When the new unit come in I will ask him to again try and install the circuit but Im sure that will only go so far. And just to clairify...the ebrake wire DOES NOT get connected to ground, correct?

I will update this post on Tuesday will the results... Ducatiboy..pm me if you dont remember the guy in desert hot springs, ca.
  13. Tried that already....Took the circuit out, hooked the wires back up and left the ebrake ground wire still disconnected. I flashed my light as the Z1 was booting up but still had the same problem. Most of the boxes were grayed out. The installer then took the ebrake wire and grounded it out and as soon as he did, all the grayed out buttons turned black....pulled the wire again....buttons went gray again. Had to have him hook it up as per specks just so I could have a functional unit.

Looks like Pioneer might have fixed this flaw in some of the newer units. Bummer!!
  14. Well I just bought a new AVIC Z1 and the flash override switch and IT DIDNT WORK!! I had the shop double check all the wiring and it was installed correctly. The illumination worked on the unit and I left the ebrake ground wire off. The unit only worked on audio functions..Most of the setting buttons were grayed out and I could not perform any mapping address search functions. Had the installer remove the head unit and ground out the ebrake wire and ALL THE FUNCTIONS RETURNED to normal, even with the switch in place.

Any one else experience this problem with a new unit?
