  1. yes...for me. How much are you in your car? If you spend more than 30 minutes a day in the car I say yes. The navtraffic may be a different story though, depending on where you live. Are you in a navtraffic market? I will never go back to my like before satallite radio. I personally have XM and Sirius in my car and office.

  2. Or Long Beach

All Navi repairs have to go to Columbus, Ohio.

Ahhhh...you are correct sir. East coast customers go to Columbus, West coast go to LBC. I had to reread the "memo". I bow to your infinite wisdom(or ability to read)!!!

  3. Didn't I hear somewhere that analog TV would be completely phased out this year altogether.

They are phasing it out more and more every day it seems. I believe it is in February, 2009 that analog is no more.

IMO, I can't see Pioneer revisiting that catagory. Their TV Tuners were the best on the market, but were pricey compared to brands such as Farenheit and the like. I know people that are still sitting on a few GEX-P5700TV, but in another 18 months they will be paper weights.

  4. Well, you have to decide where you can, and want to put it. In my car I have it in the console for now. Along with my Sirius receiver and Ipod. I am going to relocate it this winter though to the trunk where the factory RCU went for my car. Luckily the GEX-P10XMT is not too big, so you should have a few options. If you really want to find a place I would go to a Honda forum and see where people installed their.

  5. Yes, the P-Bus and the Data cable both need to be hooked up...if you are going to subscribe to the actual navtraffic service. If you are not, then there is no need to hook up the data cable just yet, not until you get the traffic service. And yes, you need to hook up the power and ground wires. Does that answer your question?

  6. Thats half of what I just paid to have a D3 put in my truck

incase i wasnt clear, i paid $100 including all parts (Wire harness + double dim shell thingy)

well props to you..woulda loved to get it installed for $50 lol

so basically i ended up paying $100 for install

    $270 installed for a viper 560xv http://www.viper.com/Products/Product.a ... ductID=106

but i today im calling, going to get $50 back on the viper, getting the remote start for nothing extra, otherwise im threatening chargeback for everything, letter to corp, and complaint to BBB

I supplied all my hardware and paid 425 for the install.

you sir got ripped, even BB only charges $150

I wouldn't let BB install an air freshener in my truck.

    Best. Line. Ever.

When you say hardware do you mean the D3? If so, while still high, it makes sense. When people take their own equipment into a shop to get it installed they are going to be charged more, in most cases. These dealers are tired of people bringing stuff into their shop that were purchased from the web, and expecting the same labor and service they would get if they purchased it from their store. Oh, and I am NOT a dealer, so this is not me saying this directly.

Now, back to the $100.00 charge. That seems more than fair for installing a navigation unit. Basic head install is usually $55-65. Now with the nav you have to run the VSS wire and antenna. Not huge jobs, but still more to it than installing a headunit. So, $100-150 is in line with industry standard. The nice thing about paying for the install is that if you have any problems with the install, it is their problem and they are responsible to fix it...if it is a reputable shop.

  8. I can't believe you guys think the N4 is ugly. I have the AVH-P5900DVD in my car and I love the way it looks. To me it is one of the better looking A/V units Pioneer has made, and I have had them all...literally. I am debating if I want to swap my 5900 for the N4 yet. I am fine using my AVIC-S2 for now so I may wait.

  9. No offense, but if Crutchfield can offer them for $850 shipped (authorized and fully legal with free mounting kit and wiring harness), there is no reason why other authorized retailers can not. :?:

Just so everyone knows, accomodation price at Tweeter/Sound Advice for the D3 is $600, so yeah, markup is pretty huge.

Also, never trust a marketing rep whose business is to sell you on ideas. ;)

$600.00 is way below dealer cost, so take that price from Tweeter with a grain of salt.

  10. Hey Soldier. I am glad you got your mount figured out. I was going to tell you that it is very stiff and you have to put some elbow into it, but now you know. Here is how I mounted mine. I used a Pro Fit cellular mount.
  11. I do not believe they are the only ones offering that deal, so check with your local dealer and be sure to ask about the free AVIC-S1 promotion.

  12. I don't get these guys that are leaving bad reviews. Not that I think they don't know what they are talking about...but what are they talking about??? When the "bad" review says no route summary what does he mean? And the bad driving directions makes no sense either. I have to laugh at these people because as they leave their reviews, in my eyes and I am sure others as well they don't make sense.

I have this thing and I think it works great. Is it the be all end all of portable navigation, no? But are any of the portable navi units, no?

The no route summary has me scratching my head, and I wish the reviewer would have left better info. To me route summary is how far and how long(ETA). The AVIC-S1 gives you that info. Now again, that is what it means to me. To them, I can't say.

Here is my thought on the bad driving directions comment. This person bought it and tested it driving around his town. When he entered a destination it gave him a route that he thought was not right or too long or whatever. But this person knows his town, and they know where to and how to go. To test any portable, or even in dash navigation the true test is not the area you already know because you already know the short cuts, quickest routes and all that. I have used this thing now in 6 States and I think it works as well, or better than it should.

I am lead to wonder if the person that left the 4 out of 10 even looked at the instructions. Not that you really need to as it is pretty straight forward, but before you rate it poorly maybe one should actually look over the instructions and see if some of the problems are user error.

As for the battery comment on the other one. Not much to say there. Mine has lasted almost 4+ hours, and I can't say that is good or bad for what it is.

Anyway, I stand behind this being a great unit.
  13. dhodory, I see your points. I also see that you live in central Ohio, Columbus I am assuming. I would be more than happy to meet with you and let you demo the AVIC-S1 first hand and see what you think after that.

I went to Best Buy yesterday at Polaris and played with the Nuvi 350 a little and while it was nice, it was was not as easy to navigate through the menus as the AVIC-S1. And yes it was quicker once you select your option, but by a split second only. And what's better(or safer), quicker or easier to use? The guy also made a comment about no street names on the AVIC-S1. Not sure where that come from, but it is far from accurate. And the whole glare issue had me laughing as well. I guess almost any surface will have a "glare" in direct light. I have not had an issue with glare, or street names or anything he found fault with. I have had mine and have been using it for a couple of weeks now and love it. I think dollar for dollar it is unbeatable.

As I said, the invitaion is open dhodory, I am in the Grove City area. Just drop me a message and we can arrange to meet and you can judge the AVIC-S1 for yourself.
