  1. ok, I'm going to buy focal speakers and an amp to power them. budget isn't really an issue, can anyone reccomend models for 6X9's, 6's and an amp to power them (that will be installed under the passenger seat)??

    thanks a lot!

    Jon

  2. Because I drive with my headlights on during the day, my screen is always in night mode. Putting in a toggle switch and wiring it to the illumination wire of the AVIC would allow me to toggle between day/night mode on the D3 while leaving my headlights on all the time, correct?

Does anyone know of any pitfalls to doing this?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  3. Thank you for your responses. Budget isn't really an issue, it's more of just wanting to keep the car clean, spacious, and inconspicuous. I think I'll get a small amp to power the four speakers and mount it under a seat.

    Thanks again!

  4. I have a 2000 Accord EX, I'm looking to replace the factory speakers (6X9's and probably 4's??) with after market to be powered by the AVIC-D3. (No amps). I just want decent sound quality, nothing too powerful as I have small children and don't care too much for booming bass, just want clear crisp sound...

    1. is it even worth it?

    2. What brand/models would anyone recommend?

    Thanks!

    Jon

  5. thank you for these posts. This will certainly make my life easier.

I often wonder why we have to come up with creative ways of doing the obvious...not just with the D3 and Ipods, but with all media entertainment across the home...

Anyways, great forum here, so very helpful!

  6. Don't be scared of the bypass! It can literally be done in less than 5 minutes. Very easy, with instructions found here on avic411.com

What you should be scared of is having a 160gb ipod connected to the D3. I have mine with 132gigs worth of music (approximately 35,000 songs, well organized, album art, etc), and scrolling through artists is a HUGE BURDEN.

A HUGE oversight in my opinion not being able to search for artist and jump right to them.

Anyone come up with any tricks on sifting through artists/albums with HUGE libraries? Of course playlists are fine, but on the fly suggestions may prove helpful.

  7. I have the 8830 world edition on Verizon Wireless, and i was able to register the phone, transfer the address book in it's entirety in one shot, and use the voice commands.

I think it's unfortunate that when I have several phone numbers for one contact, it doesn't differentiate them. (i.e. home, mobile, office, fax). It just labels them as c1, c2, c3, c4. I have full contact info for all 400+ of my contacts, and it's impossible to tell if I'm calling their office, or mobile, or worse yet, their fax machine.

    Other than that, it's great.

one other thing, if you rename a contact, it doesn't follow over to your presets, another slight frustration.

  8. haha, yes it exists first thing in the morning to get the traffic and weather reports. Unfortunately I live in an area that is a big city with traffic, but not covered by XM Traffic :-(

I just want to be able to easily go from XM1 to FM1 to AM1, but i guess that can't really be done. oh well.

  9. This may seem like a ridiculous question, but is there an easy way to switch between AM and FM without having to scroll through FM1 FM2 FM3, etc? I'm used to a navi with a menu that had easy access to FM, AM, and XM buttons...

Also, is there anyway to have a Preset list of your favorites across bands? For instance one screen that has the following:

    FM-P1 FM-P2 XM-P1 XM-P2 AM-P1 AM-P2

Thanks a lot, and thanks to everyone for all of their posts on here; made my install go flawless including bypass.
