  1. Just an update, in case anyone in the future has this issue and finds this thread. I pulled the unit out and put it on the counter for a couple of hours, was going to box it up and ship it back, but forgot I still had an SD card in the unit, so I plugged it in and pulled the card. For shits and giggles, I tried the gps and after about a minute of zero satellites, they all came back online! Not sure how long that will last, as I'm not willing to find out whether it goes out on my next road trip or not, but if it happens to you, try unplugging the head unit completely so there's no power at all going to the unit. I'd say try it in 10 minutes and see if it starts working again. If it doesn't, try letting it sit for an hour or two.

  2. Hi all,

First post here, although I've been using this forum since I bought a brand new AVIC-D2 back around '06! I now own an 8100nex, and am now having issues with it after only 2 weeks of ownership!

So here's the problem. Took off on a road trip to the west coast, approx. 7 hours, and about 2 hours in, the gps stops tracking me. I didn't know it until I got closer to my destination, but the nice part was that when it stopped finding gps, it also locked me on the map in the exact spot it died!

I now have zero satellites locked, no signal whatsoever, but it shows antenna being "OK" and connected. Here's what I've done so far:

Pulled deck out, checked gps cable to antenna, no kinks, cuts or issues at all.

repositioned antenna to middle of roof temporarily to see if it was an issue being in the dash, no change at all

reset unit (tiny hole in front of unit), no change

updated firmware to see if that would erase and/or reset the gps system, no change

called tech support, they said it might be the antenna.

This is where I've lost my patience! I spent a grand on this unit, and only after 2 weeks, its given me issues? Then, the warranty department states that "I" should try another antenna to see if its really the issue, as it could also be the "gps module" in the unit! Why the hell do "I" have to source another antenna on my own!?!?!? Send me one and I'll swap it out, or you can have this unit back and I'll contact my credit card company to refund the grand! We'll see what the warranty department's supervisor says when/if they call me back.

Anyway, my question at this point is, have any of you experienced this issue before, and what did you do to get it working again? At this point, I'm absolutely done with Pioneer, this will be the last one I own, and if it is a unit problem, I'll return and get a refund as soon as I get either a Kenwood or Alpine (great, now I gotta research their units for issues!).

I'm hoping it is just an antenna, as I'll swap it out and call it good, but anything more and this is gone. And as for Pioneer's shitless service, I will make sure this is posted EVERYWHERE online!
