do daytime running lights affect the brightness at all? i've noticed that mine doesn't switch at all.

after reading all the problems that everyone has been having with the d3 and the new ipod classics i have been looking on ebay for a 5th gen. ipod as my current ipod cannot store videos. does the 5th gen. ipod have to be on a certain firmware like the ipod classics? or does the 5th gen. ipod work just fine on any firmware? thanks.
