Z1 to D2

One big advantage of the D1 appears to be that it can be successfully bypassed so all navigation functions work while driving while the newer (after July) Z1 cannot. Other than that the Z1 has a lot more features but if you are not going to use them you are paying extra for nothing. I would agree the other posters that the dash mount kit is what will make it look factory or not.
2.
it can be done hear's an install
Do you know where the installer got the install kit that had the face frame with the correct curves or were they able to use the original face frame? Thanks
3.
The person I was replying to originally was writing as if the Z1 has become useless without the bypass and that is far from fact. /quote] To me it has become useless if many of the nav features are not available while driving. I have a Garmin Quest now and I use it a lot to find someplace while driving. It may be because somebody called me and told me I needed to be somewhere or maybe I am need to find a gas station or someplace to eat while I am in an area that I do not know. The other week I was on a trip with the family and they all decided they wanted t

Navi learning feature is ok but so far not great for me.
The NavTraffic comes from XM so Sirius would have to add their own traffic service.
5. I have asked this question in another thread but have not gotten any answers so thought I would try it here. Do the voice commands work while you are driving or are they locked out too, meaning I cannot manually enter a new address while driving but can I cancel the current navigation and enter a new address through voice while moving? Can I have the unit search for a resturant through voice commands while driving? Can I have the unit dial a number through voice commands while driving? If the voice commands work then the unit is not really crippled.
6. I hope you hit them hard about turning off the navigation and blue tooth functions while the vehicle is moving. That is why I have decided not to get the unit at this time. I will wait to see if they make any changes to the Z1 to let me use my judgement as to what is safe or not and not enforce theirs on me.
7. For those that are using the Z1 now, do the voice commands work if the vehicle is moving and the regular Nav controls are locked out? Can you enter a new address or cancel routing or show traffic conditions and so on through voice commands? Was just wondering if this a work around the lockouts if you have a unit that does not allow the headlight flash fix anymore. Thanks.
8. I was reading about the Z1 and found that it cripples some navigation controls such as canceling or changing a destination while the car is moving. I believe this lockout is mostly so that the driver cannot watch a DVDs while the car is moving so I am not sure why some navigation functions are also crippled but it concerns me that pioneer is so overly worried about any type of liability. Does the D2 cripple any functionality if the car is moving? Thanks.
9. I can understand not allowing the unit to play a DVD while the car is in motion but why would they disable the phone and navigation features since they are most valuable while moving? Are they going to disable being able to change radio stations next since that too takes your eyes off the road.
10. I do not know anybody that can do a custom install here in Maryland and I am not sure how to find one that I can trust to do a good job. My son went to a local installer to have subwoofers installed and they did not do a very good job and they used standard off the shelf parts. The wire from the battery was too small and burnt up and the amp is always overheating so I am leary of small mom & pop shops. Your install looks good but I am not sure about the Z1 anyway now that I have found many of the nav features are turned off when the car is in motion. Thanks for your input.
11. I doubt that Pioneer cares but I just sent them an email that I have decided not to buy the Z1 now because they cripple key Nav features. Now comes the hard part, finding another in-dash unit that provides all the functionality I want.
12. I have not been able to determine if the Z1 can be installed in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. When I checked at Tweeter they could not find an in-dash installation kit for the 2006 Corolla and told me the curve of the dash was the problem of using older kits. Has anybody installed in a 2006 Corolla? Thanks.
