1. Got the .torrent file, borrowed an IDE adapter from my IT friend, paid the $4.95 unlock fee, unlocked and installed the partitions. Works perfectly! My Z1 is now a Z3! Awesome! Also on a side note. I was able to connect my laptop IDE adapter without removing the hard drive from the caddy. If you don't plug it in all the way, it doesn't interfere, at least not on my adapter anyway. Thanks for the great info!
 2. I am changing from a Z1 to a F700. Any chance my swap be as easy?? Thanks
 3. Update After reading a post from our friends at the12volt.com Here I verified the fuse is indeed gone. I was able to get everything working again from another post somewhere that I can't remember. I ran a wire from the Outer part of the RCA cable and grounded it on the side casing of the Z1. So far everything is working perfectly. Some people said some of the engine noise may still exist. I hear none, could be because my truck is a diesel (no spark plugs ). I am going to run it like this for now and see how it goes. I just wanted to let anyone else know in case they run
 4. Hello. I have been having very strange problems with my Z1. I had the unit out to install my bluetooth module. While the unit was out I did unplug and re-route some wires/RCA's behind the dash in an attempt to clean it up. Now I have engine noise and besides that the sound out of the speakers is way off, very flat and mono sounding, like its playing in an empty room. Here is the strange part -If I fade to the front, the front speakers actually get louder -If I turn off the sub in the sub control menu it stays on, yes the SUB can no longer be turned off from the Z1. -Buzzing a
 5. On my 03 Silverado HD Duramax I can turn the key on and the Z1 starts booting up, and stays on booting even when cranking. It has never flashed off or anything like that. Interesting...
 6.
Otherwise just run the wire above your headliner and run your wire through the edge between the metal and plastic on the the top of the third brake light.
How hard is it to go through the Headliner? I havent really messed around with the headliner on vehicles too much. Is there any risk to the headliner messing around up there?
 7.
How exactly did you hook up your dimmer wire, mine didn't work directly off of the adapter so I installed a switch under the dash for now. I just purchased the "ducati" circuit so any info to make it work with the headlights would be appreciated.
I pulled out the factory headlight switch and used a continuity tester and probed around until I found the wire the lights up with the headlights. The wire I used also dims when I roll the dimmer wire but its working fine on the Z1 and the "ducati" circuit. The only downside is if I roll the dimmer more t
 8.
Just so you know, the GPS antenna can go underneath your plastic dash. I have the same truck and just stuck the magnetic antenna to one of the steel support underneath the plastic dash and have not had a problem with signal.
Cool! I read that people were doing that. I might have to give it a try. Can I put the XM Antenna underneath too? I have the navtraffic xm unit coming in and am going to install this weekend. Got my sterring wheel buttons working and the ipod adapter as well as Ducatiboy's Circuit. All working great so far!
 9.
Ok you jackals I ordered a Z1 from AbesOfMaine (it's where I ordered my first one). Hopefully I get a "fixed" one and if so, I'm going to take it apart and see if I can figure out what might be done for bypassing the new units. This is a very expensive test for me, but I'm going to do it.
I hope you get a newer unit for the testing. I bought my Z1 from abes last monday (8-7) and got a may '06 unit. I dont know what their inventory is, did they say it was in stock when you ordered? Btw thanks for the Circuit!
 10.
Nice job, looks clean. Was this you first install? It’s good to see people doing their homework and saving themselves some money. Looks great. 3hrs is much better than what it took me... but I didn’t know about all the good stuff I can learn from AVIC411 until after the install :( . Enjoy your Z1 :D
Thanks! I've done a few car stereos over the years but nothing quite like this. I was mostly worried that the mouning wouldnt work out right. A lot of places said this unit would not fit this truck. But i have living proof now :D
 11. First of all this is my first post on here. I want to thank everyone for all the great information on here. Installed myself and saved $$$ thanks to this forum! I ordered my unit last week, received it yesterday and drove to work today with my Z1 up and running! :D I got lucky and got a manufacturer date of may '06. Ducati circuit is on its way (Thanks Ducatiboy!) I'm also still waiting for my ipod adapter and pac-swi-ps to show up, but at least the hard part is done. I used the Metra GM0S-04 adapter and retained my factory bose speakers and amp (for now). For the speed sensor I used t
