  1. The Aux input is only for an IPbus to RCA adapter (sold seperately). You want to use the built in RCA inputs. Go to your AV Settings, system settings tab. Turn Aux (off), and turn AV Input to (Video). You will then get audio from your mp3 player, etc.

See I knew I wasn't nuts, there had to be a way..

    Thank you sir.. :)

  2. z1 with Toomey Z3 hard drive..

Ok so after a few failed attempts over a 3 year time period I guess it's time to ask..

Has anyone had any success using a RCA to 3.5mm cable to use an mp3 player or phone or boom box ?

Doesn't seem to compute that I cant turn on the AUX input and use a portable device to play music..

Just trying to make sure I'm not loosing my marbles.

  3. So I moved the Z from one car to another, didn't have time to install the XM tuner during the first install so I went back today and finished.

The Z see's the tuner, shows what song is playing etc etc but no sound. Can change stations, manually tune one in pic comes up shows artist but no sound.

    WTH????

    Anyone have a suggestion?

  4. Glad this post was of some use to someone.

As far as a step by step goes there wasn't much to it.

The screen has to be open.

Turn the unit over so you can access the little panel where the ribbon is, remove the cover and slide the ribbon out. I can't remember at the moment which side was easier to remove. I think I removed it from the head unit then removed the screen. There are 2 screws holding the screen on the sliding chassis so once the screws are removed and the ribbon is removed you can twist the assembly out, be careful of that little spring that wraps around the screw on the right.

Then just remove the screws from the housing you can use a small flat head to pry it apart. The insides are easy to disassemble once the case is taken apart. The touch screen just sits on the face of the LCD. the connection is removed then the touch panel can be replaced, reverse procedure for reassembly.

  5. 1. Can we assume you have the Bluetooth adapter for your radio? It's a separate device not built in.

    2. No. All you can do is buy a larger HD and install it in the unit.

garrettoomey on this site sells sweet drives ready to go for a very reasonable price.

  6. Here is a quote I still had saved from when I was searching for install goodies.

"2002-2005 VW Vehicles do not have a reverse or parking brake signal on the can bus. The green and red/white wires do not function for these model yeah vehicles. Parking brake and reverse signal wire's can be foud with a volt meter in the vehicles factory wiring. Vehicle must have the factory installed double din headunit (4" tall)."
