1.
So that file replaces the same-name file currently on the NAV DVD? That DAT file contains both the data AND the images then?
Yes, replace the same exact file in the XMDAT directory. It only contains the name of the channel, and has an index number that points to the logo file. For the channels that just changed there name (added xL to the front, or cm/sp to the end), the same logos are used. But there are new channels that have new index numbers. Those channels have logos that need new files in the XMDPS directory. I haven't gotten that sorted out yet... But I figure some people must be irritated by logos that disappeared when XM recently changed channel names.

  2.
I'll get something before July... the problem is The Heat and Viva. They just refuse to get logos to appear. Maybe they are transmitting a space afterwards or something - its really strange.
Ok, I am getting close. The Heat still refuses to work. They must be transmitting some hidden characters that make it not match up with the table file. I am stumped on that one. I have all the spanish channels working now with proper logos.

Also, we need a logo for 'enLighten'. There are quite a few new talk channels that have the wrong logos or no logos, and the French channels also need logos. Jason, can you get some of these made up, however you did it? Also, NHL channels.

XM Hitlist, Liquid Metal, and Big Tracks all have gray scale, and they tend to look a little messed up because they are semi-transparent. Can you make new ones that don't use gray scale colors?
  3.
All of the Clear Channel stations have now renamed -- the big ones -- KISS, Mix, Sunny, and Nashville!

I don't know if the new names are permanent, or if they are tweaking them... However, now they're missing icons!
    :(
Yes, pretty soon we won't have any logos. Never fear, I fixed that already. They added cm, sp, and fr. I fixed those. However, I haven't gotten The Heat or XMLM to work yet for some inexplicable reason. Also, there are a lot more channels that need new logos, like enLighten, the NHL stations, a bunch of Talk Stations (some changed there names as well), the French stations... I have a big spreadsheet trying to fix these. Its taking more time than I thought, sorry for the delay!

  4. Yep, the logos and new channels work. I haven't gotten them all lined up yet. I have to go through them and rename some of the logo files. They aren't labeled by channel number, but by the index number inside the tabledat file. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I'll fix it, but you'll have to rename some of these files.

As far as a few things I saw:
Big Tracks looks a little funny due to the gray scale.
The Message - the 'g' is cut off at the bottom.
Most others look good. Some didn't show up cause I got the index wrong. I am going to make a spreadsheet to line up the channel names, numbers, and indexes from now on.

Give me a few days though.

  5. Well, we sort of have a JPEG to PIM converter, but the AVIC is very specific about colors, in that some colors actually look like semi-transparent versions of other colors. Its very hard to make a background that doesn't show through. For instance a particular shade of teal turns up solid white on the AVIC, while pure white will turn up 100% transparent on the AVIC.

Not sure how to solve this mystery.

    PIM converter in D1 section.

  6. The grays are weird. Pure white ends up as completely clear. The gradient, from full white to full black, end up breaking into several smaller gradients with different transparency levels and darkness levels. Also, cerain shades of color become transparent.

I think there is a subset of colors that are solid, and then the variants become transparent. Who knows what ends up as what. Red, Blue, Yellow seem ok, but orange, green, and purple look transparent. Maybe if you pick the right shade of these colors, they will be solid.

It would take a long time to figure out which colors are solid and which are transparent... sigh...

  7. As for grays working for this background, the opening graphic is a JPEG, not a PIM. So it looks correct. I should try to make it a PIM and see what happens... will post both in the other thread (testing PIM files)...

Amazing how much time I spent on this background that appears for 2 whole seconds.

  8. Well, the color chart came out better on the AVIC then if you load it into Irfanview.

    http://users.rcn.com/ohlarikd/storage/a ... 0chart.jpg

The main primary colors look ok, but the grey scale is colored. It is more colored in real life than the photo. The rainbow gradient is ok, showing the limitations of 16 bit color.

Incidentally, I seem to have made a transparent background, and you can see that while on the AV screen, the NAV map is still in the background underneath. I guess you need to create background with solid black, then draw on top of it. I will have to edit the color chart and add a big white box and a big black box.

Anyway, this gray scale thing might be messing up photo JPEGs...

UPDATE: Loaded a JPEG photo on the D1 using PIM Manager. The picture is mostly ok, but the gray problem seems to make some things not quite right. And some colors are a little off too. I think PIM is just not going to allow photos. However, it seems like you can make your own backgrounds with paint, as long as you don't incorporate some complicated photo elements.

Why not just allow the N2 ability to load JPEGs? Who knows how Pioneer thinks.

  9. I don't think this PIM color issue is going to be easy to fix.

In a PIM file, white is 39 67. In PIM Manager, white is naturally assumed to be FF FF.

3967 ends up being some teal color, when its really white. I made a color chart and compared some things:
    http://users.rcn.com/ohlarikd/storage/C ... 0Color.jpg

Gray Scale, if using purely RGB colors in the range of 0 to FFFF, doesn't seem to translate. It comes out in color. I am not sure how to represent gray scale properly.

I am burning a DVD right now with the color chart. I will take a picture of the AVIC and post it here.

  10.
I discovered something last night that has made the process much cheaper.

You don't need DVDR DL's to load custom backgrounds.

Burn a no POI DVD with the backgrounds you want, load the DVD and select the background, the background is then loaded into the D1's flash memory. You can then take the DVD out and put the factory DVD in and it keeps the background.
That's cool, so I can use my DVD-RW to load backgrounds and not burn up DL's just to change the background - good find! By the way - you should be testing with the No-POI DVD+RWs, not using the expensive DLs, right?
