I may have an idea,,, and it may be a wrong cable problem..

3 pictures below, all go in the back of the pioneer D connector// notice the one for the old iPhone 4 has a audio cable going into the connector...the 3rd picture shows the audio being striped to a 3.5mm cable... Is that what we have? is that the problem?

picture 2 has the D connector but no striped out audio jack??

#2 picture is the cables needed for the Z150BH along with the  Apple® MD826ZM/A Lightning digital A/V adapter.

  2. Does this update include the AppRadio mode for the Z120BT, like the Pioneer website claims  https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Accessories/Map-Upgrades/NAVTEQ+2013+Map+Upgrade+for+AVIC-Z120BT,+AVIC-Z110BT+and+AVIC-X920BT

Just trying to help a friend out who's not very tech savy. He would rather use navigation with the AppRadio from his i-phone.

Update:  I figured out what may be the issue. https://pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/AppRadioMode

  3. There really is no need for a switch to toggle the bypass on or off, that just complicates the install and adds another possible point failure.

If the bypass is done right, the brake wire can stay permanetlly grounded and will not cause any issue with any functions of the unit.

This sounds like they hooked up the parking brake wire to a switch that is grounded, However they did not do the bypass to the head unit.

But this is only my best guess given the error message and I had seen this before when the bypass was not soildered correctlly.

I would take it back to the shop who installed it and have them check the install or have them do the bypass right, plus ditch the not needed switch...

  4. I think you might be getting confused between just making simple backgrounds and then those instructions on changing the boot image.

Yes, background images are as simple as Pioneer says they are...

However when you get into changing the startup boot images ect... that's where it gets a lot more complicated where you would need a DVD burner that can burn dual layer DVD's and also some additional software.
  5. Hello,

Did you get your navigation update disks from Pioneer or did you get a copied or burnt disk second hand?

If it is a second hand disk... Then yours, like many other units on here is suffering from the effects from having got a poor disk copy.

If it was a copy you made yourself from a bit torrent... verify that you have all the same files from the image on the disk you created.

  6. Yeah for bootleg upgrade disk! (in all sarcasim) It was nice the e-bay bootleggers went through all the trouble to actually make the disk look like the originals...

It's just too bad they didn't burn them correctly or bother to really test them to make sure they work with all the units. :(

I think this site averages atleast four post a week from problems with these bootleg copies...

  7. As a kid I always thought the Knight Rider was neato, but now I look at what was KITT the 82 Trans AM and can't help thinking how in the hell did I ever think this car was cool. And well since the new Knight Rider is comming out in a few days I remembered what was so cool about that 82 KITT Trans AM and that was that glowing red voice comming from the dash when KITT spoke.

So please could someone come up with a cool moden day voice for KITT as background image or even the one in the new Night Rider GT500KR? It may help a few of us kids dreams come closer to becoming real...
  8. This is not a problem with your bypass...

The problem is your DVD copy!

AVIC N2 and N3's have different part numbers listed for their DVD core units in the service manuals, which may explain why some people don't have the problem with the burnt DVD's and others do.

The address search and the POI search database is on the second layer of the navigation DVD's, however many here have run into the same problem you are experiencing and later figured out that when making copies of the upgrade disk they had to burn at slower speeds and they found that only certain brands of DVD DL layer disk work, which mainly is the verbatim brand of Dual layer DVD's.

I would pursuit a refund or a new set of working disk...

If you do a search of the forums you will find how to access the service menu and then downgrade back to a previous version of you navigation DVD.

  9. Yes, It's highly doubtfull that you will be able to use just a DTV converter box, unless you are sitting still and using some sort of large powerfull bulky antenna...

With the current 8-bit VSB broadcast system now in place, it requires that you have a very strong signal and that also the signal be direct.

In a weak analog signal situation being mobile you would just experiece weak snowy images and a bit distorted sound, however with trying to recieve OTA digital broadcast while being mobile you will experience image pixelization and loss of sound wich then takes the reciever a bit of time to recover from once a strong signal is available again.

Due to this and several other challenges that arise with trying to receive OTA DTV signals while mobile it will take a little longer before we see a true mobile TV reciever that will be able to lock onto one channel and maintain reception while being mobile.

There are a few companies like Microsoft experimenting with the vestigial side band (VSB) modulation system for digital transmission and many of them are having very good results, so it most likely it won't be too long before we have mobile TV available on evey type of personal mobile devices immaginable.

I experimented with trying to recieving digital TV on a near coastal ship using a converter box and the results was constant blanking of the screen and sound.

  10. I have the assembly listed as CXC4304 in the service manual.

The white connector on the board that attaches the small ribbon cable

    is CKS3965

The large black connector that makes contact with the detachable faceplate is CKS4658

Bummer... the parts website shows the assembly out of stock, however the connector I think you broke is "in-stock", I hope that you can solder well...

    Hope this helps... Good Luck!

  11. * You either have a bad ground wire somewhere inline, or the battery

constant wire to your head unit has a bad or loose connection.

    * Also I believe if the voltage on an AVIC falls below a certain level it will

power down as well. But that doesn't explain the loss of your presets.

    * Another thing is that the cable connection from the head unit to the brian may be loose, but then if that's was the case you would have to reset the unit everytime it died from lost connection .

Is the whole unit going dead, or is it just the screen or just the audio???

I would definatley replace the battery and hook up a small battery maintainer if your going to let the vehicle sit. I know from my own mis-adventures you will ruin a perfectly good Optima battery if you let it drain down all the way without immediatley recharging it.

  12. Oh Well... I thought he meant HD radio since he didn't say H/DTV, but then again I missed the "over-the-air" (OTA) and the end of his post.

I haven't heard rummors or seen anything yet from Pioneer as far as a digital tuner unit for the AVIC's go, but it would be cool if they could make it as a built in feature in the future, being that alot of laptops are already coming out with HDTV tuners built in.

  13. I think it's a glitch in both the map and POI database. I had the right zone selected, when I did the address searches. I think that the phone # lookup database must be separate from the maps and POI database, because when the unit does finds the place by phone number only then will it recognize the address and allow you to select it as a destination and navigate you there.

I've had this problem happen alot in Central Florida.

  14. If for any reason your N2 brain was disconnected from the head unit with the power still applied, then make sure you push in and hold down the small reset button on the face until it reboots or you will have near the same symptom as a bad flex cable.

Also make sure the cable that attaches the head unit to the brain and head unit are completly seated.

The difference is the unit will still power up and be illumminated, but none of the unit's functions will work and you will NOT be able to hear any audio comming from any source if this is the case.

As for a bad flex cable, all the units functions will still work, but no screen.

Oh! and the purple wire is to activate a rear mounted camera when you put the vehicle in reverse.

    Hope this helps... Good Luck!

  15. I've wasted several DVD's trying to make a disk from this torrent and this is what I had to do to finally get the seach and POI's working.

    1. Save the torrent file in a folder only one level from your root drive (C:\)

    ie - C:\Software\PIONEER_CNDV_70MTP_WEST

    2. Extract file in the same folder using WinRaR only

    3. Burn your Dual Layer DVD using the latest update of Alcohol 120% at the slowest speed possible.

Also the Verbatim DVD+R DL seems to be the only disk I can get the burn to work correctly on as well. I have no idea why, but I am thinking for some reason it's the only brand the head unit is able to read both layers correctly from. I've checked the other brand's of dual layer disk I've used and they were all perfectly intact, however they only half ass work in the head unit as if the second layer is not there. Maybe it's the Verbatim's cool purple disk color? I got no idea...

Anyways so my conclusion is that it either it's the laser in the N series head unit that's not reading the disk, or the DVD decoding hardware/software not reading the other brands of burnt disk, I'm not 100% sure.

The only thing I am 100% sure of, is that Pioneer would rather you spend the $250.00 for the upgrade disk from them.
