If I connect ILL wire To parking light wire What about Z1's Parking wire? Is that gounded?
The z1's parking brake wire I'm guessing gets grounded for the bypass to work. Not sure really. As for the illumination wire, looks like the car doesn't even have a parking light wire that would work. God I hate gm gottta make life difficult.
If you have a working ILL wire, then the parking brake wire SHOULD NOT be grounded. It shouldn't be connected to anything if possible (if you plan on something or you flashing your lights). And there has to be some wire somewhere that will work as an ILL line. It wants to see 12V when the lights are on and nothing when the lights are off. They might not have run the wire up to the radio, but I would assume they did, since the stock radio dimmed with the lights on right? Then there is something in the dash, but if not, you might have to run a wire to the headlight switch or to the lights or something, but somewhere in that car, some wire gets energized to 12V when the parking lights are on. I might be a pain to find it. And I'm sorry if it is. You sure there is nothing in the radio connector? It might not be on the Metra adapter or whatever, but it might be in something the oem harness that's not brought out with the harness.
The illumination level of the stock radio is controlled via the databus just like the turn on. There is a negative parking light wire, but if I remember correctly it doesn't supply enough current to trip a standard relay to invert the polarity so the z1 would be affected by it.
  2.

"Turn the car completely off, then proceed to unhook the Ipod from the adapter. The Pioneer display should disappear leaving you at the menu screen. Next, turn the Ipod off (hold down play/pause button)and put it on HOLD. Now plug it back into the adapter, wait about 5 seconds or so, then turn the car on. You should see the charge screen on your Ipod. Turn HOLD off and once you do this it will return to the Pioneer display screen (it may also stay on the charge screen). If you try and press menu it should back out of the Pioneer (or charge) screen and into main menu."
Tried this w/ my 30gig video iPod, cd IB-100II, and AVIC-D1. Didn't work. Maybe that's one of the things they changed from the IB-100 to the IB-100II??
Since you have the setup that I'm slowly putting together how's the new ipod interface with the d1? Does it actually show the full song title and stuff?

  4. Ok I have a 2004 chrysler crossfire, should be the same as a 2003 mb slk 320.

    Any ideas?

Did the stock radio have the "gets louder as you go faster thing"?

If it does, the VSS will be wired into the radio allready and will be included in your vehicles wire harness.

Is that the case for all cars with that feature? My Yukon had that. Is there way to test?

Thanks, that would be great if this worked.

Depends on the year of the yukon. Though if you can fit the d1/d2/z1 in the truck, then no you can't get it at the radio harness.

  5.
Guys any1 mount it under the front dash? Im getting mine installed soon and the installer says that both XM and GPS will be fine underneath the front dash.
That's news to me. I have never had either antenna work properly mounted under the dash of any car. They need at least a line of site to the sky to work, be it through a window or outside. I'd seriously think about getting it installed somewhere else. Sounds like the installer is trying to be lazy
  6. this trick allows you to control and navigate through your library using the Ipod controls.
    The trick states that following:
"Turn the car completely off, then proceed to unhook the Ipod from the adapter. The Pioneer display should disappear leaving you at the menu screen. Next, turn the Ipod off (hold down play/pause button)and put it on HOLD. Now plug it back into the adapter, wait about 5 seconds or so, then turn the car on. You should see the charge screen on your Ipod. Turn HOLD off and once you do this it will return to the Pioneer display screen (it may also stay on the charge screen). If you try and press menu it should back out of the Pioneer (or charge) screen and into main menu."

There ya go no need to spend 5 bucks.
  7. Actually Yes I am familiar with the higher end of pioneer and keenwood. Just because I work for the big blue hellhole doesn't mean anything. There are plenty of shops in the area that sell that stuff. For some reason we have the lowest install rates, so a lot of people buy the stuff from the mom and pop shops and come to us to have it put in. Whatever I'm done jacking the thread.
  8.
Thats what I was saying the d1 and z1 are the same size, I hope it works I'm really siked about getting this avic z1. Do they sell aftermarktet cages for european cars like my double din volvo? I heard on volvospeed kenwood makes a cage, do you guys know anything about.
You can order the double din cage for the z1/d series directly from pioneer. Of course I might be able to get a hold of one for you fairly cheaply, but I'll have to check.

    Green/black - Left REar -
    Purple - Right Rear +
    Purple/black - Right Rear -

If you can get a hold of the wiring harness for your car, that'll make the job 1000x easier since all you'll have to do is match wire colors. Almost all after market radio use EIA standard colors for the wires.
  10. Well that truck does have a dedicated illumination wire so the installer probably didn't hook it up. For the xm status goes, are you using the pioneer xm tuner in the big white box, or the terk tuner in the orange packaging. Then again it could just be for navtraffic. There is also the possibility that the parking brake problem could be a normal thing. When the system is first installed it'll generate that error for a couple days. I know mine did before I did the lockout bypass. Whatever happens keep me posted.
  11.
Thanks for the information guys! At the moment, I'm still wired as per the installer at BestBuy who refused to ground it for me. I am getting a message BEFORE the default safety message. It states that my parking brake has been miswired (or something to that effect) and that I need to check it out. It looks pretty much identical to the safety warning screen in font and color. I hit OK then I get the safety message and have to hit ok again. Any idea what's needed here??

Question#2: I read in the manula that the coloration of the nav screen should go with a black background at night once the headlights come on, but mine doesn't. I have automatic lights but tried turning them on manually to see if that had an effect, but nothing. THe manual states that if this doesn't occur then an orange wire is miswired...what do I need to do? BestBuy is an hour away. (BTW I've checked the settings and the nav is set to "Nightitme" so it should change over along with the headlights)
Odds are good the guy as bestbutt didn't hook the illumination wire up, or your car does not have a separate ill. wire, and only a dimmer wire. What is the year, make, model of the car. As for the not grounding of the parking brake wire, we are not allowed to do that. If an installer is caught grounding that wire. They get fired on the spot. I can help you out if you'd prefer to do this yourself. Later.
  12.

As for the popping when turning on or off, what I normally do is use a 2.2k or a 2.4k resistor on the remote wire. Works every time.
And I used a voltage regulator. First thing that came to mind. A resistor would have been easier :)
I must say, I never thought of using a voltage reg. Hey now I can charge customers a lot more for doing that!!! Hmmm, no I can't damn ethics. The regulator would probably be better in the lost term though, just because resistor might be more prone to fail if the radio is pulled out often. Ahh whatever.
  13. Very strange that the z1 would be wider than the d1 or d2. If it's a double din then It's got to be 7" wide. I've put plenty of dual single din cd player in those types of cars, if anything the extra size of the cage for a double din would make it fit in that dash opening better. As far as I remember the part number for the d1/d2/z1 chassis is the same. Best bet would be see if you can find the dimensions for the z1. Then measure the dimensions of the radio opening in your car. The dimensions of a d1's cage are 4 3/8" tall by 7 1/8". That's the outside of the cage. The inside, where the screen resides are 3 15/16" tall by 7".
