  1. so with that relay there, i think for my receiver, the avh-p3100, i have to wire the blue/white amp turn on wire in place of the remote wire.

BUT i have that wire crimped together with the power amp wire and power antenna wire from my harness.

so if i take out that amp turn on wire and solder it to the relay wouldnt i lose sound?

unless i have to solder all three to the relay?

but i dont know what effects that would have..........

You have the right idea, but no...first off, that blue/white wire is the amp turn on, which is also called the remote wire. You're probably thinking that those are two separate wires, but they are one in the same, just have different names.

That blue/white wire (let's call it the remote wire for simplicity) on the head unit harness is used to carry a "turn on" signal from the head unit, to whatever it's connected to. In your case, the head unit tells your amp to turn on. All you need to do is send that same "on" signal to the relay, via that wire. All you really need to do is splice/crimp another wire from the remote wire to the relay...just that simple. No need to pull it our of the configuration you have it in now, just add another piece.

What I would do is find a spot on the remote wire that is coming out of the head unit and skin a little of the jacket back. Take a new wire, strip one end, wrap it around the exposed remote wire a few times and then solder it to hold. Wrap that connection with e-tape. Then at the other end, strip enough back to fit into a female spade connector. Crimp on your connector and slide that spade onto the relay.

That should get you what you need 8)

  2. Call again and say this; "I was just doing some online research and I saw that XM is offering a one time only, one year subscription for $77 by using the ZWINBACK (spell it out) code and I would like to take advantage of this."

Did you call the 800 number I posted above, during business hours? If so, then keep trying.

FYI all of my radio's are Pioneer GEX-P920's. My truck and my wife's truck are refurbed units from Ebay and the third one that I just activated today was used from ebay. None were new, none are OEM.

Stick to your guns, it will work.

  3. Okay, so after a few calls and getting nowhere over the weekend, I finally cracked the code

You can renew at the $77/yr rate, but you cannot do it through the regular call center because they will tell you till they are blue in the face, that it is only available as a one time promotion.

What you have to do is when you call about the renewal and they tell you the new regular rate $142.??, you make mention of cancelling your subscription because you can't afford it, or it's too expensive or something to that nature.

IMPORTANT - When the CSR asks you if you are thinking of cancelling, say YES. Don't tell any stories, don't hem and haw, just be straight to the point and let them know that you find the full priced rate to be too expensive. They will then transfer you to a different department.

Once you're in the second department, you will be asked again why you are cancelling. Tell them the same thing. It's almost like the CSR's are reading from a script and feeding you lines. Go with the flow  The calls are recorded, so they cannot legally offer you alternatives up front. They have to ask you questions. In order to keep you as a customer, they will then start the bargaining. They will offer you a yearly subscription at half price. This is the $77/yr rate. In my case, that's just what I wanted, so I said YES. He immediately thanked me and started changing my account to reflect that my first radio will be renewed at the same rate as it was last year.

    It's just that simple.

Now, from all the research I've done, I've found that it's the US call center(s) that starts the process. When you get transferred to the second place that helps you out with rates instead of cancelling, it's mostly overseas; in my case it was Jamaica.

I've seen a 90%-95% success rate using this number 1800-347-0600 during business hours.

I called 1877-228-9058 more than ten times over the weekend and ended up in three different call centers; Phillipines, India and Trinidad. All calls were denied renewal at the promo rate and 7 out of those ended with me saying "well I guess I'd like to cancel..." and the CSR saying "okay". No bargaining, no transfer to the cancellation dept.

Bottom line, don't call the 877 number, call the 800-347-0600.

At the start of my call this afternoon, I had two radios on the account. 1 My truck (up for renewal) and 2 my wife's truck (3 yrs free). I also had a $35 credit because of a billing adjustment from last year.

I added a radio for my motorcycle (#3) and got that at the $77/yr rate. So after all was said and done, I should have had to pay $77 for #1 renewal + $77 for adding #3 - $35 credit = $119 for two radio's for one year...not so!

The guy was so helpful and admitted that he was doing this because I was so cooperative on the phone, that he credited my account $50, so that put me at $69 total for two radios with a one year subscription :!: Plus of course the wife's 36 month free service

    Thanks XM

  4. hi i jus installed the avh-p4000dvd in a car but cant get the dvd to play while driving. . what do i hook up for it to play. . do i use a toggle switch????any help

You can use a toggle switch, but it's cleaner in my opinion to use a relay, that way there's no stinkin switches to worry about. You crank up the car and hit the OK on the disclaimer screen and off you go.

Go back to page one of this thread and read the posts. Relay part# and instructions (to include a very large diagram) are all there.

  5. Please help! I bought the relay mentioned from Radioshack, and used crimp disconnects to attch it to the relay. I'm getting sound but no picture. Then you didn't do something right. Go back and check your connections. Start by hooking up all connections with bare wire, no crimps. Then make sure you're connecting to the correct blades on the relay. If you have the 5 blade relay, make sure you're not using the "a" blade. Also, your two ground wires need to go to the same ground, not separate. Can anyone please help? Also is there any tricks to getting the iPod to work? I have the cable from Pioneer and its bringing up the controls but won't play any music. Any help is much appreciated. Can't help you on the Ipod...sorry.

    Thanks

  6. Further explanation from Garrettoomey's post above; instances you'd connect it to a PC would be to do more advanced stuff like doing the XM logo update, upating the nav with the most up to date maps (you have a Z3 so you're good), changing the start up screen image and a few other fun things.

Pull up a chair, read a little and make yourself at home.

  7. i called today and used ZWINBACK. $77.00 for a year

Nice :!: Which number did you call and about what time of the day was it?

I ask because after a certain time of the day, the calls get routed to other countries and I have a feeling that the reason some folks are getting rejected is because they aren't hitting the right call centers...

The receiver in my truck ($77/yr) I got that deal when I called at night and hit a call center in the Phillippines. It took a couple of calls, but I finally got it.

My wife's receiver (3 yrs free) I hit a US call center and got it. All the calls before the US call were overseas and no one knew about the promotion because it had to do with cars sold in the US.

Anyway, good for you on renewing at the same $77/yr rate, that gives hope for the rest of us 8)

Is this 3 yr xm deal still going on?

Can't say for sure. When I found it around Christmas last year, the advertisement said that it started in summer 2008, so as of Christmas 2008 it was.

  9. I just called as my 1 yr is up end of next month.

She wanted me to pay $145 for a year or 12.95 pr month. I asked if there was something available for a lower cost and she said no.

Meanwhile I'm on their site and see the $9.99 pr month package so I told her I was looking at a $9.99pr program now "Oh yes we have a $9.99 pr month available" :?

Sorry but that lady wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer be any measure.

I'll call back later and see about the $77.00 package and report back on the outcome.

I'm curious to see how your renewal goes. My radio which is the $77/yr account is up at the end of March and I'll be damned if I'm paying $145/yr...

  10. If the seller is paying for the "missing" cabling, then go ahead and get everything listed above.

Mic assembly comes with the Z1 itself, not with the bluetooth module (ND-BT1)

Aftermarket GPS receiver? You have a GPS receiver in the Z1, all you need is the antenna.

So is the Mic assembly built in?? Like I said I have nothing except the unit itself.. Would I need this also to utilize bluetooth hand free calling?

As for the antenna, is it safe to say aftermarket works just as well?

No the mic isn't built in per se`, it's separate from the Z. One end plugs in the back of the Z and you run the actual mic to where you want to mount it in the vehicle. Yes you need the mic to utilize handsfree calling (still need to get the ND-BT1 adaptor as well) and you also need the mic if you want to take advantage of the voice command feature on the Z.

I can't answer the aftermarket antenna question because I have no experience with them, I'm using the one that came with my Z. The stock antenna has a proprietary connector on it, so if you go aftermarket, make sure the connector that's going into the back of the Z will work...

  11. I just put the ND-BT1 in my truck last week and sent my contact list all at once.

Once the BB has been registered and connected you need to go to the contacts option on the Z (I think it's called business card?) and select it. The Z will tell you to send the contacts from your BB. In the BB menu there is an option to send contacts and you choose it.

Worked like a charm with both of my BB's...Curve 8330 and Curve 8350i.

  12. CDE5044 speed extension lead pink 7.00 > Yes (need for Nav)

CDE6825 Reverse extension lead Violet 21.50 > Yes (need for b/u cam)

    CDE8082 Power W speaker cord assy 34.50 >Yes

CDE8083 cord assy RCA input 45.95 > Yes (need for b/u cam)

CDE8084 RCA output 37.50 > No (unless using rear seat monitors)

    CXC4864 GPS antenna 50.95 > Yes

  13. maybe i missed it in all these pages, but has anyone answered WHY the mute wire needs moved lol? Everyone just says it does but never tells why. curious if it was answered?

My guess is that the pin that you are re-connecting it to needs to be grounded. It was the same with my Avic Z1.

    Welcome to the forums 8)

  14. lol... such an amusing thread... people... if you cant figure out this simple item theres two things you shouldnt be doing....

    1. playing with the programming of the unit.

    2. DRIVING AND WATCHING MOVIES!

but hey, as long as you are not by me and doing it, I can care less

    +1 8)

If they don't have the attention span to read through the whole thread to get the info that's been given repeatedly, they definitely shouldn't attempt driving with motion video in their car

  15. Sounds fishy to me...I'd take the Z1 back and find yourself another seller.

Wiring harnesses can be found on ebay, just use the link to the Pioneer parts page and figure out the part numbers. To get the Z! up and running by itself, you'll need both harnesses and the GPS antenna.

Bluetooth module (ND-BT1) is about $100+/- on ebay. If your seller doesn't come through, I have one BNIB that I'll sell you.

I just pulled the XM module out of the wife's car, so I may have a GEX-P920 to sell as well...it's got the power harness and Bus cable, but you'll need to get an antenna.

I hope you get your stuff, and welcome to the forum 8)

  16. I bought a factory sealed refurb from ebay that had a factory 90 day warranty. That was over 2 years ago, and I have never had a problem with it. I think that refurb units are inspected more closely than new units from the facotry floor... Just my two cents.

+1. I've had mine in for over a year and no problems. I manage a service department for an electronics/AV integrator and I'll tell you from experience that refurbs are just as good, if not better than A-Stock items.

Refurbs (B-Stock) are items that came back in on manufacturers warranty fixes and other types of cases as well. What the manufacturer does is fix the issue, fully test the unit as they would a new one and then box it back up for re-sale. Technically they cannot call it brand new and sell at full retail, hence the refurbished name and drastically lower price.

Refurbs are the way to go, but be sure that you are buying a refurb that was done by the original manufacturer, not some random electronics shop...

About the only thing I'll stay away from refurbs is/are flat screens, especially plasma's. Buy these new and definitely get an extended warranty

There is a very reputable vendor on Ebay that sells Pioneer refurbs and that's who I'll continue to use. So far I've purchased 2 Avic's, an AVH-P4000, 3 GEX-P920's and a DEH-P4000...all of them work like they were brand new.

  17. I bought the wife an AVH-P4000 and GEX-P920 last week for Christmas for her Chevy Equinox. I installed them both and then started looking online for XM codes/deals like I did with my first setup.

I found out that Infinity was offering a 36 month trial with all new 2008 Infinity QX56 SUV's. According to the person that posted the tip, all you had to do was call XM, tell them you just bought the '08 QX56 and would like to enroll for the free 36 month trial.

It took 4 tries, but on that 4th call I spoke with a young lady named Trinea and within a couple minutes of me telling her my radio ID, she confirmed my 3 year free trial 8)

One note is that the GEX-P920 I bought is a refurb from an Ebay dealer that I frequent. Each time I called XM, each rep told me that the radio was already activated under someone elses name and had service...they didn't tell me what package it had, but they did say that it was already in service.

Of course I told them that it must be the automobile dealer and that the QX56 was probably a demo, but the 4th person (Trinea) disconnected it from the Ebay seller's XM account, put it on mine and added the 3 years free trial with no activation fee.

Did I mention that the three year comes with Nav Traffic

Now I need to get a GEXP10 for my truck, move my 920 to my motorcycle, add a third subscription (who knows what deal I'll find next) and move the services around to match the radio ID's and I'll be good to go 8)

To those that had no luck with the codes given in this thread, do yourself a favor and call more than once. Don't get discouraged by one or two or three different reps denying your discount, keep calling until you get it.

My first radio took a few tries, hell I ended up talking to someone in the Phillippines before I finally got the package I was after.

    Just be persistent 8)

    Its worth another try!!

p.s. I have a 910 that isn't in use in very good condition just put a new antenna on it last year. Doesn't work with my F90 though. Pm me if you would like to purchase.

Sounds tempting, but I'm looking for the P10, the one that's Nav Traffic capable.

Good luck with your call and post your results 8)
