  1. Just installed / Updated using the following:

FujiFilm DVD+R Dual Layers (onlything futureshop had)

Software wise: power2Go DVD writer that came with something.. not sure what

    4x default settings

Worked flawlessly. put the disk in and it ran through everything. Things i've noticed so far

routing maps in the toronto area / Niagara region seems about 2x as fast as it was on the 07 factory printed disk. not sure why, but the unit overal seems a lot more responsive

  2. small example myself:p

    Downtown Toronto

BMO feild where the Toronto FC plays. Definately not on the map though it was created and finished over a year ago. they have a road going RIGHT through it.

made for interesting drive last week

  3. What I have noticed on my D3 recently is that when I'm driving on the highway and I go from the collectors to the express lane, it takes a while to realize I'm in the express. Don't know what's up with that though.

same, it uses the "dead recognition" for lcoation a lot more than it needs to. GPS is supposed to be accurate within 5 - 10ft of your current location. My dell had no problems with this, But my D3 has problems telling when i'm going on or off the collectors / Express, or on certain ramps. Especially confusing the Gardiner and Lakeshore a lot because they're nearly on top of eachother.

Again, the Navteq Dell had NO problems with this

Seriously, Pioneer, hope this was a good lesson

  4. The only complaint i have so far is the D3 mapping software.

As mentioned. it's downright retarded on a lot of the routes. "fastest" should automatically take me to the nearest highway instead of busy downtown streets just to save me 3 Km's.

However, I have activated the "show multiple routes" option, and now i can select one of 6 routes when i enter the destination, i find that one of the routes tends to be pretty good. I recommend using this option instead of letting the D3 pick for you.

In the end, I think Pioneer did themselves a large disservice to themselves by attemtping to use their own Navigation software instead of a tried and tested proven one such as Navtech or Garmin. I have an Axim handheld windows device using Navteq's software for Dell, and even being 4 or 5 years old, has far more features. 3 different 3d mapping modes, ability to record routes, faster routing, and better routing. I ditched using it cause i wanted an integrated all in one device, which the D3 provided,

I was tired of having 3 different window mounts. the Axim mounted, the sirius tuner mounted, and the ipod mounted. Now, it's all one neat device

  5. The radio has 2 power wires going to it. One is switched from the ignition, and one is constant power.

IIRC, red = switched, yellow = constant.

    Those colors are correct.

WHich of the two power supplies should the BT receiver be plugged into. I have plugged mine into the switched power and not the constant. I'm wondering if this is causing my connection problems.

the receiver is working fine but i have to manually reconnect my phone everytime i getinto the car to fully use it

  6. if it's really cheap it'll be perfect. put the ipod and the ipod cable out of sight and youv'e got yourself an almost permanent MP3 hard drive for it. as long as you're not watching videos where you need to see the screen to start, your D3 does everything you'd do on the screen anyways.

heck, the D3 even takes over for the ipod and doesnt let you use the clickwheel to control it when plugged in.

  7. Default start location for the D3 on reset is LA... no idea why but whatever!

bad signal and the GPS is forced to use Dead Recogning to figure your location. That means it uses it's built in gyroscope to figure out where you're turning and how fast and try and judge based on the loose signal from the GPS what street your own. Often.. Poorly.

Putting my receiver on my dashboard right under the windsheild yeilds full signal almost every time. Very rarely does it get the wrong street or think i missed an off ramp

  8. I'm using the Samsung M-500 phone on Bell Canada Network.

yet the most bizarre issue that frustrates me persists.

the device is paired fine and autoconnects, However only auto connects with basic functionality (dial the phone).

to actually USE the phone, BT audio, i must disconnect and then reconnect on the phone. Simple. But abnoxious as it defeats the purpose of having the paired device.

Now, my anger tells me "STUPID BTB! WHY MUST YOU FAIL ME SOOOOO!" but after logically thinking about it, I must be doing something incorrectly.

But even re-pairing the device causes the same persistant behaviour. What am I missing?

  9. there's a lil of caveat emptor so to speak.

Buyer beware. as long as Pioneer knows what phones don't work and has a list available, it is our duty as a buyer to do a lil research to find otu if it works or not.

However, I never bothered to check if there is a compatibility list.

a simple good list would be great listing each phone with what functions work. This thread is a bit of a chore to wade through

  10. i had a similar prob.

with my Samsung M500 bluetooth phone, while it would automatically connect when i get in the car, it didnt automatically take over all functions.

I could dial the phone with the car and that was about it. it would still put all functions through the handset.

I would have to manually reconnect the phone everytime to use it properly.

I have not found a fix yet

  11. nah, I bought it just like this guy. Canadian buying from the states.

I picked up the D3, Blue Tooth< remote and Ipod connector for ~700 US cash. Converted to canadian was about $680. While i dont get the rebate, thats still better than the $800 cheapest at BrestBuy and Futurecrap for just the D3.

PST / GST are going to be applied to either purchase.

    680 + 13% = $768.34

    800 + 100 + 30 + 30 + 13% = $1084.80

And i shipped with USPS which charged no broker fees.

still a hell of a deal to buy US. Canadian prices are ridiculous still. I'm looking for an XM receiver right now. Cheapest canadian price is $200. Cheapest US price is $79. My only problem is i refuse to buy anything that uses UPS to ship

    ----------------

    as for the original question.

if you've already got the aftermarket radio in there you probably have a harness already. just disconnect it from the existing wires and connect it to the harness for the D3.

The D3 has 2 different harness that go into the back. One which has your A/V inputs / outputs and the other one with the primary radio stuff. For the purposes of wiring it to your factory radio wiring, all wires basically go to the one harness and not the A/V harness.

hopefully if you have a good harness for your cars wiring the colours should match up too like mine did on my Vibe

  12. not a scam really

basically what they're doing is saying "here's a fat $40 cheque.... but you have to give it back to us anyways to start your service".

really it's just a $40 transfer. you still spend the 40, but its to XM directly instead of the on the product. it's a marketing gimmick in order to draw you to buy their hardware

Don't know about the store. But they wont get my business as they will ONLY ship to canada via UPS.

    why do companies do that?
