I believe it's a flash memory. So no SD card problem. But you also lose DVD drive.

I lost the dvd/cd drive with the 9707s already.  But if it doesn’t die like the 4500, I may switch. It’s on sale at Best Buy as a Total Tech member. At least with the 4500 when it worked, I could listen to music at a decent level, use factory camera, and don’t have to max out volume on a phone call or get static on 1/3 of max volume. I know it’s partly a Bose Amp issue but way worse volume issues with Kenwood and factory Bose amp than Pioneer and factory Bose amp.

  2. I purchased a Kenwood 9707s after my 4500NEX issues and it’s been as bad of a debacle/experience with my Mazda 6. Can’t use factory backup cam and volume on phone calls and even regular tuners are awful. I’m actually considering going back to a Pioneer wireless CarPlay like the DMH-W4660NEX. Does it have the software/SD card image issues like the AVH-4500NEX?

I celebrated too soon. Bluetooth is back to working but now if I touch the screen or a button it sometimes randomly reboots.

    Thoughts?

Anyone with a legit W4500NEX image?  The one I have from kham restored wireless CarPlay but reboots are awful random and screen pixelization and distortion is driving me nuts. About to dump it for a different wireless CarPlay head unit. Any suggestions if I get desperate and just start with a replacement head unit?

    Sent you an email reply!

@khamFinally replaced the SD card with the image!  Working great so far including Maestro on my steering wheel!  THANK YOU!!!!!!

Any idea if this is a permanent solution or just kicking the can down the road to have to do again in a year or two?

Once the img is placed on the sd card it cannot be read by a Mac or a Windows machine only a Linux machine. Once you put it in the w4500 and try to boot it will be locked so it cannot be read at all except for the pioneer unit. Does this help.

It answers part of my question. So when I placed in the available SD reader behind the face, the unit didn’t recognize it either. So is that also expected?  Has anyone tried to use the .img to update firmware?  I tried but the front SD card unit doesn’t recognize the SD card. Just trying to avoid taking apart the dash and the unit to find it still not working in the SD slot buried within the unit behind the dash.

    Hi All,

Just joining this thread to share what I have been successful with, and hoping that someone can help me out the getting my Maestro RR to work again with my AVH-W4500NEX.

Like many others, my AVH-W4500NEX started acting up and I found out it was due to a poor quality SD card that came in the unit from the factory.

I was able to download the AVIC4500only.img file from this old link (https://mega.nz/folder/AI9RxZjZ#jAXMB8e-8tPlBF5s5VUvBQ) before it was removed. I have since posted this file to the following Google Drive location.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FhhDuE2QdXU0mvF_G7n_8hURPUZ0Jb7R/view?usp=sharing

I was able to paste the image to a new SD card and install it into my AVH-W4500NEX and it worked like a charm.

I used a Sandisk Extreme SDHC UHS-I/U3 16GB SD card (~$15CAD from Amazon), used "balenaEtcher" on my MAC MINI M1 to get the image flashed onto the SD card, and followed the following Youtube video to take the head unit apart and reassemble it.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cHp6jxD5R8

The firmware is showing as version 1.02 with this image (my old firmware was listed as 1.00). After the SD card replacement/ firmware upgrade I confirmed that the serial number that shows up in the System Information screen of my AVH-W4500NEX still matches the serial number that is on the sticker on the bottom of the unit.

Apple CarPlay (both USB and Wifi) works fine.

The only thing that I still cannot get to work is the Maestro RR. I continually get the double red flashing light on the Maestro RR even after I have successfully re-flashed the Maestro RR (multiple times), and have factory reset the AVH-W4500NEX.

I reached out to Auto Motive Data Solutions (ADS) tech support and got the following response:

have seen this is a few times now and while you were able to swap the SD card that is only one part of the fixing your original issue, the other step requires Pioneer sync the embedded information from that SD card to the radio. The only way I have seen this done successfully is by sending the unit into Pioneer Warranty or an authorized Pioneer service center to complete this side.  Once done you should be able to pull the new serial number on the radio flash the RR.

If anyone has any ideas as to what I could try next to get the my Maestro RR to work again I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I have a .img for the W4500NEX and trying to follow your instructions for Mac. I flashed the SD card using that software but once done it will not mount and read by the Mac or I’m the W4500 with the SD slot under the screen. I was hoping I could use the .img to update firmware without removing the dash and unit. Maybe that isn’t possible but how do I know the Imaged flashed to the SD card replacement works before putting it in the unit?  Ideas?

  7. Does anyone have a 4500 image I can get?  My 4500 no longer will remember my iPhone and so my wireless CarPlay will not work except to re-set it up every time I turn in my car. And now it isn’t storing settings and I get the Sirius XM your favorite bands are updated message. Even when I turn it off in settings it comes back upon turning the car on again.

Same thing here. Pioneer will do nothing. Best Buy couldn’t figure it out. I tried clearing cache and everything.  Can’t use wireless Bluetooth which is why I bought this model!
