  1. if you're so worried about to "ethical issues" or "legal issues" why are you even on the "Hacks/Mods" fourm? This community is about pioneer avic unit owners coming together to answer questions and help each other out, not bringing others memebers down for asking them. but hey who knows... maybe Pioneer will read your post and send you an award or something for being such an honest customer, but then again prob not! Bwhahah... i hope you enjoy your "legitimate upgrade" while the rest of us enjoy our cracked one. (it will be cracked... its only a matter of time!)

    Thank you.

  2. It's right here. http://www.pioneerel...ades/CNSD-210FM

Oh, were you expecting someone to buy it for you? If so, you'll just have to patiently wait. Or maybe you could just buy it and post a link to it. Naw, didn't think so.

....um....what's the point of following the initial poster's instructions if you are just going to buy the upgrade? If you did that, you wouldn't need to do the password bypass, correct? I must be missing something... :?:

  4. I find it hard to believe the e-pass is the culprit. I'm more inclined to think it's a computer (running Windows CE) and decided to glitch.

In a similar situation, I totally deleted 'my flash disk' from the IGO, and then reinstalled my backup (or the original should also work). My backup is a complete flash disc file. Everything since has worked fine, more than several months. Give it a try and good luck. Hope this helps.

HG- I have tried to get the update applied again to my Z110BT without success. I have the two SD cards that I bought from Amazon along with the password code. When I put the SD1 into the Z110BT and restart it, nothing happens. Do you know of a way to force an update? My guess is that the update checks to see if the unit has already been updated, and if it has, it does not apply it again.

    Thanks.

HG- So it sounds like you are suggesting that I use the upgrade CF flash disk that I bought to upgrade the unit, and try the upgrade process again? I never thought of that....perhaps I will give that a try. Thanks for the tip. I didn't think that the flash disk was for the OS on the unit as well as the maps....Thanks.

  6. Sorry for the misleading title. I guess that it's possible that the unit just decided to give up the ghost. I thought it was interesting that the CSR asked me if I had applied the e-brake mod (his words, not mine), so I figured that he/Pioneer know about the bypass.

I will look to see if I can change the title of my message. Thanks for the replies. I was looking to see if other members had any similar experience. I have had the unit installed for over two years now....I figured that it would have lasted a little longer than that, but maybe not.

...found out that I can't change the title.

MODERATORS: I wanted to know if you could edit the title of the a post that I made. e-brake Bypass broke my AVIC-Z110BT. Could you update it to read

Did the e-brake Bypass break my AVIC-Z110BT?

    Thanks.

  7. Well...first off, a little history. I purchased a new Z110BT back in July of 2009. I followed the instructions on the e-brake mod found on this website, and didn't have any issues. The unit worked fine after that....NAV, DVD, iPod, radio, etc. No issues. A few weeks ago, I noticed that the NAV system appeared to get "lost". The arrow would not track on a road correctly, and sometimes, it would not move at all. I also noticed that the unit would freeze sometimes when it would display the detailed turn screen (for a right or left turn, for example), and the only way to get it working again was to power cycle it. I talked to tech support at Pioneer, and they said that for $200, I can send the unit in for repair. The one thing that they asked me was if I had bypassed the emergency brake. I told them no, and the guy said that it sounded like the processor was damaged. Has anyone else had any issues in using the e-brake mod?

    Thanks.

  8. Update: Speed pulse still at 0 after a reset to factory settings performed. Learning status is simple hybrid. I checked the wiring for the VSS, and as near as I can tell, it appears okay. I also checked the connections to the HU, and they look okay as well. I'm guessing that something is wrong with the HU internally. Now, I need to decide if I want to pull the unit and see about sending it in for service, or bite the bullet and purchase a new one.

  9. RonS-

Thanks for the info on the VSS. I know that it did work, because when I reset it the other day, I saw the pulse count start to increase, and the signal bars started to change. The HU is mounted within the 30 deg / 5 deg parameters. I bought the HU in July of 2009, and it has worked flawlessly up until about a month ago when it started to have problems.

I will try to drive around to see if the speed pulse value changes. It is currently at 0. I will also see what it says regarding learning status. If I remember correctly, it currently says simple hybrid.

Thanks for the troubleshooting ideas. I'll post results later.

Just to let you know, the VSS is a pulse. It is different from vehicle to vehicle, and I doubt you will have a sensitive enough voltmeter to trigger the current reading. I couldn't quickly find any standards (like IEEE) for VSS, but I'd bet there is one - defacto at least. I don't know what marks the pulse (polarity/voltage threshold...). BTW, are you sure it ever worked?

The turning/rotation issue could be caused by other things. There is an internal gyro/sensor that only works correctly if the HU is mounted at an angle less than 30 degrees from horizontal and within 5 degrees left/right. I doubt that is your problem - but just wanted you to be aware. Seems like it would never of worked if that was the problem.

After a reset, drive for a few miles, then go to the 3D calibration screen under Navi Settings (while parked). Is the Speed Pulse value 0? If so, either the unit is bad or the wiring/connection isn't good. Now, while you are on this screen, drive around (safely) and make a few turns. (See pg 149 in the Z120 manual). You should see changes in the spee and rotation as you move. Also, what does it say next to "Learning Status".

  10. RonS- I pulled the unit yesterday in an attempt to locate the loose connection on the VSS wire. No dice. I checked where I'm taping into the vehicle harness, as well as the connections to the unit itself. Everything looks okay. I put everything back together, and reset all of the sensors. No speed pulse indication, but the mapping seems to be working a little better. I did notice that when driving to a destination, the unit would lock up when it displayed the close up instructions for a turn at a corner. The nav pointer would appear on the screen, then begin to rotate around...kind of crazy. I think that I am going to try to restore factory settings to see if that does anything. After that, about the only other thing that I can think of trying is to verify voltage off of the VSS lead.

  11. RonS- Thanks for the reply. I installed the unit over a year ago, and it is just now starting to act up. I checked, and I have more than two sats locked (it got as high as 11). Signal strength was good. I noticed that the VSS pulse count was working for a few minutes as I started to drive, then it stopped. I'm going to start looking at a loose wire. Hopefully, that will be the cause. Thanks again.

  12. Hi- Recently, my Z110BT (upgraded to the Z120BT) has been having trouble with showing my current location. Sometimes, it gets the position on the road correct, sometimes it appears lost. I also noticed that in the connection status screen, the unit no longer shows any speed pulses from the VSS. Any thoughts on troubleshooting advice? Thanks.

  13. Nope, its there. Make POI icons visible on the map. Touch the icon then touch the shortcuts button on the right. Hit the destination flag.

Okay, I tried that. POIs visible on map. When I touch the icon on the map, nothing happens. If I scroll the icon on the map so that it is in the center (under the red circle), then I can press the shortcut button, and I get the destination flag. For some reason, the POIs on the map don't do anything when I select them.

Is there another setting that I'm missing? My Z110BT is using ver 1.0 if that helps at all.

    Thanks.

  14. Here are some pics. Vehicle is a 2009 Toyota 4Runner with the Urban Runner trim pacakge.

Pic of the part number on the inside of the trim ring: PZ365-3570. I did a few searches, but nothing comes up. I guess a call to the dealer might be in order if you are looking for the trim ring.

Pic of the AVIC Z110BT installed with the trim ring. I tried both the metra kit, as well as the scosche kit, and the original trim ring fits the best....go figure.

Pic of the unit powered up. I had an AVIC-Z3 in my 2004 Tacoma, and I was pleased with it's performance. So far, the new Z110BT has not disappointed. The only issue I'm having is getting the bypass to work correctly, but once I have that solved, I'll be happier.

The iPod interface on the Z110BT is awesome! I just connected the cables today, and it is really nice. I also was able to get the PAC-SWI interface kit to work correctly as well. This allows the use of the steering wheel controls with the Z110BT. After a brief chat with the guys over at PAC, they had pointed in the right direction. A few solder connections later, and all of the controls on the steering wheel work just like they used to with the old head unit.
