  1. AH you have this

    rl26.jpg

I noticed that it says it's night vision as well... How does the night vision work? Does it cause issues when it's bright out of being TOO bright? I was also looking into this BUT chose not to because it's the full license plate bracket and would prefer only the top part...

Is the entire thing metal? I don't see why I couldn't cut it so just the top portion with the two screws would still be there... Do you have any pictures of yours mounted?

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  2. Nope, I have my unit hooked up the exact same way plus a sirius box.

    Awesome!

If you don't mind me asking which camera do you have?

Last question. Does the Avic d3 automaticaly reverse the camera image?

Reason I ask that is the camera that I ordered above already has the image reversed... so if the avic does it then the image I am looking at behind me will be backwards... is this the case with the d3?

    Thanks again,

    -Nigel

  3. Tap the red wire from your D3 wire harness. When your D3 is on so will your camera and when the D3 is off so will the camera. You can tap the black wire off the D3 ground(black wire)also.

    Awesome! Thank you!

Last question, that won't put stress or pull too much power from the D3 right?

I just don't want to fry anything.

I seriously can't wait! This seems too easy now after looking at it all!!!

    :-)

  4. One last question. The camera I got has the auto reversing image. Does the avic automatically reverse the image as well thus causing left to be right and right to be left os is the avic not reverse the image?

If the avic does reverse the image is this a feature that you can shut off.

I didn't see anywhere on here the at Avic did this but just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  5. For the power tap the red switched wire on your unit not the yellow constant wire. You don't need power going to the camera while the car is off.

Very good point! Never thought about that.

One last question,, I have an 05' STI... do you know which red switched wire I would tap?...

I love this forum, so much information!!

Sweet just ordered my camera above! I can't wait!!!

    Thanks much,

    -Nigel

  6. Could you post more pics of the by pass that you did.

I understood when people explained it but now a little confused because yours has the three wires all right together?

    IMG_3920.jpg

In the above picture why do you have two plugs coming off the harness from the d3? My car is a subaru so it's different but I thought most cars only needed one wiring harness... yours look like you have two? I am just a little confused so please excuse the ignorance.

    Great write up!

    Thanks much,

    -Nigel

  7. But I guess what I am saying.. I don't NEED to get the pioneer backup camera to have it work with the d3?

    I can get this camera:

    http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... ctID=18656

Bar-Mount Design allows for quicker and easier installation without having to drill oversize holes.

    OmniVision Camera Chip.

    NTSC full color.

    420 Lines Resolution.

    130 degrees Horizontal Viewing Angle.

0.1 Lux Sensitivity for Enhanced illumination in Low Light Conditions.

    Lens : f = 2.8mm.

    Reverse Mirror Imaging Built-In.

    20 ft video cable included.

    Waterproof Camera Design.

    Current consumption = 60mA

That's the specs of it.. I like it cause it's weather proof, good wide angle and seems to have great lines of resolution.

So from that camera I would hook the rca out to avic camera in. Hook the avic reverse wire to the reverse wire of my car. Then hook a constant 12v power source to the 12v positive wire on the camera IF I wanted to be able to turn the camera on the avic any time and view what's behind me..etc. And it would still automatically switch displays on the d3 when I put it in reverse..?

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  8. we sell these very good quality

    http://www.hitchcam.com/products1.htm#barcam

I would be for that for sure I just don't want the entire frame of the license plate. I just want the top bar part..

    whtcrxghst:

    thank you!

    That's awesome!

    Here is one more question.

Why does the pioneer rear camera give you like 3 cables and a box?!

    I don't understand this?

All the cameras that I have seen have the RCA out so you can hook to the avic camera input, and then a postive and ground.

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  9. Good point! I guess I am being too hasty at looking at the price.. but I want that same style just a bar bracket mounting it to the license plate.

How would we wire these so that you could flip a switch or flip the avic and have it ALWAYS on.. IE: if you are driving and want to see behind you.. flip the switch and now you see the person's front license plate..etc?

    Is that possible?

I REALLY like the Crimestopper SV-5110 camera, I just can't find one that looks like that..arg.

    -Nigel

  10. Thank you for this!

I can't wait to install mine in about a week in my 05 sti!

This seemed a LOT easier than what I was making it out to be. I wired up my defi's and defi link but have NEVER done anything as far as a head unit..etc.

    Can't wait!

Only thing that I am doing differently with my install is tapping the wire at the ECU rather than the cluster... I have my turbo timer already tapped to the ECU so I am doing it that way.

Just incase anyone wants to know the VSS for 05' STI is b135 terminal 26.

    :-)

    Thanks,

    -Nigel

  11. Just wanted to say hi! New to the forums. I have NEVER installed any type of audio/video stuff in my car and after reading these forums for the past 3 hours I am 100% confident that I can install my d3 into my sti later this week and also perform the dvd mod!

    I can't wait!

My main question is that I notice that the d3 doesn't come with a remote. What is a good remote to use? I see on best buy's website the have a couple, one looking like a credit car size.

    CD-R55 = $17.99

    CD-SR11=$49.99

The CD-SR11 has less buttons but can go on your steering wheel...

Anyone have either or could make recommendations. I had a little remote for my garmin GPS and loved it.. so I would like a remote for this head unit.

    Thanks,

    -Nigel
