  1. So I am about ready to order an X920bt, but I was wondering if it allows for video output to external screens such as headrest monitors, and still have the navigation screen on the head unit? I looked around and searched this forum but can't seem to be able to find any information on this. Can anyone help? Thanks....

  2. Anyone here using the 8120 with the iphone and bluetooth? I have heard that the call quality is good with the 8120 but was wondering specifically about the iphone. Also the phonebook transfer.....how well does it transfer contacts...AND...if you have multiple numbers under the same contact...ie work, home....how does it display on the screen.

I know the the F series just lists the same person multiple times as it is unable to categorize contacts!

    Thanks for the info!

I have the 8120 and the iphone 3G. They work flawlessly. The phone book transfer was automatic and the call quality is about as good as you can get.

  3. Wondering if someone can help me... Got my 8120 installed a few days, what an upgrade over the POS F700 that was pulled out.

    3. That GXM30 is HUGE! I don't think there's another option and being this is installed in a pick up truck, there's no rear deck to put it on.

I had mine installed under the dash....No problems with reception, and you can't see it which is what I wanted.

  4. Any reason why you went with the outboard module over the built-in Garmin? Was it cheaper?

Because when last I checked, A&E was back-ordered on the 8120. What was the pkg price for the HU and the outboard GPS?

the 8120 is in stock now , because mine shipped yesterday.

  5. Finally got my 8120 in today and I LOVE it, 15 seconds to FULL BOOT, BT connects about 8 seconds after that. iPod control works, Nav is perfect, finding POI is easy, very, very responsive interface, and the amount of controls over the sound field is down right nutty. You can set independent 15 band cross overs for the front and rear speakers, as well as the speaker diameter, tweeter elevation, focus, subwoofer diameter, it is just sick.

I finally have found a worthy successor to the D3. After using the D3, the Kenwood 5120, the F700BT, the 90BT and now finally the Kenwood 8120, I can say without a doubt that the 7120/8120 is the way to go. 5120 comes a close second. When the F series gets it's problems worked out then that would be second place. I still can't get over how terrible the F series routing is. (in my area atleast)

Also note, I'm not missing the volume knob nearly as much as I thought I would. I used to have volume buttons on my old Scion stock radio and hated it. These you can hold it down and the volume slopes up at a good rate or use the touch screen which is equally effective. Also, if you need to lower and raise quickly, the ATT (Attenuate, basically a Mute button) comes in handy.

I'll post pics up later on.

Thanks for the update Mike. Whats the sound quality of the bluetooth?

  6. I have read the reviews and the issues and I will still buy one. I know Pioneer is a quality company and they will back their product up.

I would feel better about it if they actually showed a history of backing up their products, which they have not done. Unless you count releasing a new model and making you buy a whole new head unit as backing it up...lol.

My fingers are still crossed that they come through on this one. Although it will need to be soon before I go with another company.

  7. It's because we're all so stupid. Duh.

I wasn't my intent to offend anyone. I am just curious why people are still rushing out to buy one.

Maybe the problems reported are ones that people can live with. Or maybe some of the other features that are working correctly out weigh the ones that aren't. Thats actually the kind of information I was looking for.

It seems to me that if they weren't selling, that would be more incentive for pioneer to fix the issues.

  8. I am still on the fence about buying one of these f series units with all the perceived and /or real problems reported. So my question is to those that are still buying these units after all the bad user reports.

What is the draw to them even though you know you could be inheriting problems, or it might not work as expected?

Maybe I am missing something, but it seems like a lot of money to spend in the hope that Pioneer will come through with an update. Even though past practice shows that they probably won’t.

Has anyone got an official word from pioneer that they will update it? Or are we all just dreaming?

  9. So this question may have been asked before. When the D3 first came out it has been said that it had issues too. Does anyone know how long after the initial release did it get updated by firmware or whatever?

It never did. It's the same now as it was when it was released.

So what makes anyone think that they are going to fix these issues?

  10. Yeah, the bluetooth in this unit is done by parrot and not through the Garmin interface. Check out the Navi portion of the user manual here: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/113/113DNX8120.PDF

The navi part is at the bottom portion of the PDF. As you can see, the Navtraffic/Weather is beautifully integrated to the Nav software with the ability to check the weather near the POI and much more.

Thanks Mike, everyday I am getting closer to a kenwood. I am still hoping a miracle comes through with the Pioneer though, I just need to make a decision before the al-eds deal goes away.

  11. Garmin beats the crap out of the Pioneer nav hands down. Mainly due to it not crashing when searching POI and text to speech actually working for street names. The only thing that I wish the Garmin had was to be able to direct dial the POI via bluetooth like the F series can. But when the POI search crashes damn near every time, and the outgoing Bluetooth sounds terrible.. well its not very much fun.

With the Kenwood you can get the GXM 30 XM Radio tuner that gets XM Radio, NavTraffic as well as NavWeather and puts it all through the nice looking Garmin interface. It will overlay weather conditions on the map just like the weather channel.

My Garmin nuvi 360 with bluetooth will direct dial POI's Are you sure the 8120 won't do this?
