  1. Doesnt matter if Im driving or parked, the unit will reboot itself. If playing radio, it will stop for a second, but immediately resume while the unit continues booting up. Every time it does this it will forget its maps and custom screens (background and load up). The problem seems to have gotten worse as it seems to do this every 30 minutes or so.

So far the only things connect to it are:

    • ipod
    • bluetooth
    • gps antenna
    • rearview camera
    • 2 front component speakers
    • 2 rear speakers
    • a/v in (just wires, no device)

I had noticed that for a while my bluetooth wouldnt connect like it normally would. And then if I streamed audio via bluetooth and at the same time messed with the unit, it would occassionally lock up until it rebooted itself. Bluetooth now works fine. Not sure why I was having connectivity issues, but even when I dont even have my phone with me, and just play normal radio (not using an audio CD or navi screen) it will still reboot and forget. Last time this occured, it occured while parked and running for 30 minutes, yet rebooted twice.

  2. I could always remove the navi disc and when it went to memory mode, it would remember a 10 mile radius from my house. I could listen to a CDR of mp3s and when I left the range, it would zoom out and show all of Dallas Ft Worth.

Well, after having it unplugged, that's all it will show on memory mode. It remembers my house. I even reset it hopping that it would tell the unit to learn.

I tried unplugging it again. I drove around with the navi disc and even sat parked for a while, but now when it goes to memory mode, it won't even show DFW. It just shows my house, no streets, and grayness.

What do I need to do to teach it local maps again. I rarely leave that radius, so this is quite annoying. I have the iPod bus and Bluetooth, but I wanna listen to my discs.

  3. Seriously, what kind of thread is this?!? It would be hilarious if you broke it on purpose, and they denied you another because you voided your warranty.

Besides, I am a little confused about this scam. If you want them to replace your D3 with another one, I am assuming that something is ALREADY wrong with the one you have, thus should qualify for repairs/replacement. Or are you assuming that since they no longer carry the D3, they would upgrade you to whatever new model they have in stock?

  4. I recently upgraded to a used D3 since my used D1 is complete crap. It will read CDs and DVDs fine, but when I insert my burned west disc (some 08 version) which had always worked in the D1, I get a "read error." I just burned the latest software release and still get the same result. I dug up the old 2005 factory EAST disc (when West is actually needed) just to see. It reads the format and does not give me the "read error." But it still says "please insert appropriate disc," and black nothing. I thought that with the east disc I could at least set my clock. I dont want to spend a fortune on factory discs, if thats not going to fix my issue. Any one have any ideas on what I should do?

    ---EDIT---

Just had a 2009 East disc burned on the same brand of DVD, same burner, and same burning software. It does the exact thing as the 2005 OEM East disk, so I press the eject button. It doesnt do anything. I am about to press the button again when it tells me that its updating for 30 seconds and to not remove the disk. After updating, I was able to set the clock and mess with other settings. It knew where I was and displayed my local streets, even though Im on the west. Anything related to location settings however requested the WEST disc.

I wonder why none of my West discs will work.

    ---EDIT---

I had another 2010 West disc burned. Again, same brand of DVD, same burner, same burning software, but this time it worked! I guess its just super sensitive.

  5. It's now been 5 months and the problem still exists. It seems to be worse now. It works 40% of the time and I don't even bother with the navigation since it constantly is in fly-by mode (it's even wondered into other states!) is there a moisture problem? An electrical problem? The battery has been disconnected several time since my last reply.

  6. About a month ago the target icon on my map would start to wonder. Id just be driving, and it would think I hit something, despite both hands on the wheel, and fly over places. I figured the screen was just dirty. Eventually it got to where when I pressed buttons, it would recognize, and assumed I touched somewhere else on the map. Again, I just thought it was dirty.

Today Im driving home from work (had no problems with it at all earlier today) but I cant exit out of the "do not operate while moving warning screen." Normally, Id just hit "ok" and view the map, but it wouldnt recognize me hitting it. Since the real buttons work, I changed to CD, and tried to change songs using the touchscreen, rather than the real buttons. No such luck. no matter what button I pushed, nothing would happen. I switched to Map again, and the warning screen still appeared. What good is having a navigational system, if you cant even see the map due to the warning that wont go away?

I turned the car off, cleaned the screen with a lightly moist towel, then turn the car back on again. No such luck. I obviously cant hit the "restore factory settings" button, since the touchscreen doesnt work. And I havent disconnected the battery yet. Just wanted some peoples ideas on what I should do.

  7. Does your ipod get real hot when connected? Mine sure does. Both my 2nd gen nano and first gen mini. Im afraid to leave them plugged in because it might get damaged. Everything else works though.

  8. ^ I'm guessing he was using a burned copy of an update disk and it turned out to be a bad disk. An original copy of the update disk shouldn't cause this to happen.

I'll go you one better, I'd guess he never moved that extra wire. If I understand correctly, in the early D1's you could get by with only grounding the parking brake wire. The update probably enabled the GPS/VSS thing that you have to bypass with the service mode wire (moving the phone mute wire to the empty power pin.) Something in his answers made me think he didn't understand the question when someone asked if the wire he moved was still connected at both ends.

  9. I do infact have two external amps. I will try to see if this solves the problem. Thank you so much!! I have asked so many people for help (threads, emails, phone calls), and this is the first sane answer I have heard. I mean, it totally blew my mind. How could it be damaged, or wired wrong if I get audio through the radio? Hopefully this will fix it.

  10. I recently purchased an Avic-d1 and a CD-IB100II. I just assume the ipod adapter was broken because I could never hear songs, even though I knew it was reading them. Plus the buttons dont make the same beeping noise when pressed as when in radio mode.

Well today I inserted a CD-R filled with mp3s. It read all the songs and plays them, but no audio, not even when you touch the buttons. It cant be a wiring issue because in radio mode I can hear music and the button noise. Whats the deal? I havent been able to test the navi features yet, hopefully, that gets audio.

  11. If you are in the west region, and you insert the east region disk (which does not overlap into your state) What will the screen say and look like?

I just want to make sure my unit isnt damaged. I assumed there was no navi disk because it kept telling me to insert the appropriate disk, never spit one out, and also felt odd when I tried to enter a burned one. This was because there was in fact a disk after all. It just cant eject it (makes a loud noise before giving up) Anyway you can pull it out if you have tweezers or long nails. The factory disk is badly scratched up, but I would assume still readable. Im just worried that there may be a laser issue too if theres a loading eject issue.

As far as loading goes, you have to forceably push it in. Never tries to grab it and take it for you. And when it recognizes it, it tries to eat your hand by folding the display back up. And I cant test if it functions with a burned DVD because for some reason no one sells DVD-R DLs and I cant fit it onto a normal DVD, even though that BG sticky claims you can. Only way I could was by deleting random files in the same folder as the ones suggested, so when it wouldnt read, I just assumed that was why.

  12. I recently purchased and installed an avic-d1 and a cd-ib100ii. When I try to play my ipod the avic-d1 just starts going through songs from "ipod0001" to ipod0356" and on forever, although sometimes it repeats itself by starting all over. It just seems to keep counting higher and higher but never actually plays a song ever. Every second the number changes, and sometimes even every half second. I know its reading my ipod because it sees my playlists and titles the lists correctly, but even playlists that only have 10 songs in it, it will still count on "ipod0045" and so on.

Also, typically when you press a button on any other screen there is a sound file that plays when a button is pressed, but when ipod is selected as the source, no audio comes from the buttons. I looked through the manual and I dont get any of the "error" messages it talks about or anything. Also I tried playing both my 8GB 2nd gen ipod nano and my 4GB first gen ipod mini to see if that was the issue.

  13. Apparently theyre discontinued because they only work with the older models, and who buys those, right? I was in the same situation. I had just bought an avic-d1, and I couldnt find them anywhere. Even though people replied to my thread and claimed theyre dirt cheap at frys and best buy... ...theyre dirt cheap because theyre clearanced and no one has them. Ive been to several, even called around. Infact one person on ebay who was selling them works for a best buy outlet!

The annoying thing is now USED they go for way more tham MSRP new on ebay... ...theyre missing parts, may not work, and have no return policies. But I was patient. I wasnt going to fall for their crap. I called bestbuy and they sent me here: bestbuypartsearch.com. They sell it for slightly higher than MSRP, plus you have to pay shipping. But I would just got to amazon or circuit city and sign up for their emailing service that will email you when its availible. But when you get that email, buy it fast, because twice it was availible in the morning, but whenever I made my descision in the afternoon it would be sold out again.

I was lucky however, some person on ebay was selling theirs with all the parts for buy it now at $30 +$11 shipping... ...I had been watching so many auctions, I knew they werent going to be any cheaper online. So I bought it now, and it was only listed for one hour before being sold to me

  14. I actually saw one at my local Best Buy for $20. It's been there since January atleast. So I'd check your Best Buy if I was you.
Like I said, theyve clearanced them out. Thats why a $50 item is that cheap. I checked my Best buy a week or two ago, and they didnt have them. But I guess I could call around for other locations. I just figured that if they still carried it, the product would be on their website.

Plus the 3 nearest Best Buys werent around 3 years ago when the D1 came out. Id be lucky if any of them ever carried it for the D2.

You could have gotten a D3 with the bluetooth and ipod adapters for a couple hundred more...

Uh... ...yeah, and pay $999 in hopes that my $300 rebate actually comes in (Ive never gotten money from those things) And I dont like how the knob is in the middle like that (that aesthetic feature really bothered me for some reason) Other than that, it does appear to be the better product, but not worth $300-$600 more. Keep in mind that this unit is going in a 14 year old ford.

I actually was wandering through Frys last week and saw one for $9.90. Guess I should've picked it up and made some dinner money in the classifieds section

Tried there too. The guy tried to sell me a cord for the D3. But again, I didnt check all locations (although all of them are way way too far)

  15. I didnt want to spend $1,600 for a D1, so I decided to wait 3 years and buy one for $300 instead :D Well, now I cant find the ipod connector for it anywhere. All online retailers are out of stock, or back ordered. And I guess places like Best Buy clearanced them all out a month or so ago. Ive call many local places, and nothing.

The only place I can find them are on ebay, and these stupid things are going for $60+ plus shipping! You dont know if youre getting all the parts, if it works, or even the option to return the item! I dont want to dish out money for a used item with the above worries when the original MSRP was $50 new.

The CD-IB100 is just as expensive and scarce. Anyone know where to try?

So far it looks like Im stuck with either ebay or this place: http://www.abt.com/product/23660.html And if you read the "notice" I may still have to wait months for it to be backordered. And every new ebay auction ends with a higher and higher price
