  1. I think the bulk of the negative reviews come from one simple place, unrealistic and/or uninformed expectations. Looking around the web, it seems the bulk of poor reviews, like really poor reviews, are from people who were expecting a $1200 head experience for $400.
  2. For me, the big difference comes down to setup. With steering wheel controls and a decent dash dock, I quite honestly prefer this to my previous D3. Pandora is fantastic, iPod controls are much improved and Motion X is a vastly superior GPS to the disc based one in the D3. Once you get used to the device the "shortcomings" are generally reduced to "quirks". You really shouldn't do much when behind the wheel anyway (which is probably why certain things aren't possible), but things like source change, track skip and vol are managed beautifully with added steering wheel controls.
  3. Question for Mike. Sometimes when using MotionX, with an actual route in progress, I'll use the home key to go do something in Pandora. On occasion, but not everytime, my route get cancelled, yet other times it keeps going, even still announcing turns by voice. I don't think I'm doing anything different, but thought I'd run this one by you.
  4. PS-the new 3D Plus map option is outstanding, though the extensions app should probably be updated as the "home" button now covers some important text on this one
  5. Ive not done, but iTunes video is capable of TV-out so it should work. I've gotten Slingplayer to work.
  6. The Motion-x app was updated today. Version 11.0 now includes Inrix traffic information, though it appears as it's own map option and isn't included (it seems) in the other map types. Nice to have both in a single location now, especially for the appradio crowd.
  7. So in my research I've come across the panavise mount (works in conjuction with the proclip docks) that allows a little more flexibility in placement (specifically in my case, it will allow for center console mount, directly below the radio). Anyone familiar with this brand?
  8. I can't seem to get Netflix to display at all. I head audio but no picture comes across.
  9. That's the dock and location I was most leaning towards. I was worried it might be a bit too far away. Is that not a problem for you?
  10. So far I'm quite pleased with my newly installed app radio. Now the big question is, "how and where to mount the phone?". Proclips looked great (though pricey) and in my vehicle (2007 Silverado) gives me a few different locations to mount. Where has everyone mounted their phones?
  11. Just got everything installed today and so far I'm really optimistic about the future of this device. Big thanks to Mike for the extensions app. The ability to go back to the app list through the head is game changing. I really hope the appradio takes off like some of the other pioneer heads and Pioneer and the user community get deeply involved and this thing continues to grow.
  12. Will, have you gone into the "settings" and activated the different options? This isn't in the settings prompt when you launch the app but the actual "iPhone" settings.
  13. Thanks Bit! So, to confirm, Motion has it's own iPod controller? Any idea (with the access adapter) if steering wheel controls would be able to move to next track?
  14. The ipod control is actually part of the unit isn't it? Do you have an app radio? Hoping something 5 years newer has some (any of the functionality) of an older unit (especially when it's one of the few good features of the old) doesn't seem entirely unreasonable.
  15. I'm moving into an appradio from an AVIC-D3. One of the features I liked best about the D3 is, if I was on a map and the iPod track changed, artist and title popped along the bottom of the map display, and in turn if anything else was on the display when a map move was approaching, the map moved to the foreground for the duration of the event. Is anything at all like this possible with the appradio?
  16. So I just had a conversation with Best Buy and the guy told me I need a $150 wiring harness because my vehicle is a post 2003 GM? He said it had to do with OnStar and system notifications? I couldn't give a shit about OnStar, is this thing really necessary?
  17. That is fantastic. Despite some trepidation (because of many lukewarm reviews) I am looking forward to getting this beast into my dash.
  18. Grradams, could you explain that last bit a little more. Do you mean from within the head you can assigns what each button press controls?
  19. Wouldn't that be the obligation of XM? Also, the existing app will stay play through the head won't it?
  20. Can someone help me compile a list of what I need to purchase to complete this installation? 1) App Radio 2) Silverado Compatible Dash Kit 3) PAC-SWI PS Steering Wheel Controller Crutchfield is also showing the following: 1) Single pole-double throw replay (seems to be for an alarm, which I don't have) 2) OnStar Bus Interface (I don't use it, don't care if it is retained) 3) Antenna Adapter Do I need any of these as well? Thanks
  21. Thanks for all the input guys. As soon as I get a Rewards 12% from Best Buy I'll be grabbing one and probably be back with plenty of questions.
  22. VBlue, can you elaborate? Are you confirming that the AppRadio will fit in my Silverado? I chatted with Crutchfield support yesterday evening; and their explanation was that it's 1/4 inch too deep. Is this the 1/4 inch beyond "recommend" clearance and not 1/4 Inch beyond actual available space? Thanks
  23. Interestingly enough, Crutchfield site tells me it won't fit in my Silverado. I've got a double DIN. I wonder why it returns this result.
  24. I'm a long time D3 user who's just acquired a new vehicle, left behind my D3 in the old, and am considering doing my first self installation. My D3 was installed by Best Buy, and installation was quite affordable. Now, 5 or so years later, their quote to install an AppRadio is $320 (if I wanted to maintain steering wheel controls). This price has pushed me to consider installing myself. I've never done an in dash installation before, but am generally a pretty handy person (basic home repair, build computers, home theatre setups, etc). So I know I have to get a dash kit and I believe an
