  1. I think it finished serving it's purpose a few months ago. Maybe it should be deleted and have all it's topics moved to the Z-Series: General section. I just don't see the point in having a board named "Releasing in June" when it's nearing September now...

Sounds like a great idea! Now, how do we go about making you a moderator/admin around here?

  2. Is there a hidden menu or other function I can use to verify the vehicle connections.

It is easy enough to test the connection for reverse and for parking brake, but is there any way to verify that the speed wire is connected? (F900)

    Thanks

MENU, SETTINGS, NAVI SETTINGS, GPS & TIME SETTINGS. Its right there at the bottom, where it says Speed. It registers even in 10ths of a mile per hour leading me to believe that in fact it is reading from the VSS pulse.

As that is available even on the F700BT, which doesn't have a speed sensor input, I believe the speed you see at that location is based entirely on GPS.

But I could be wrong, I'm admittedly just guessing.

  3. OK everyone, you heard CatchMeIfYouCan...no more posting bugs at Avic411.com

That really wasn't necessary. Is it because I quoted your post that you had to make such an immature remark? I'm not dictating or telling anybody what to do, but these are problems that have been posted already. So why post them again?

You're right, the sarcasm wasn't necessary, but it was sort of funny :-)

You really were telling someone what to do (me), although you did it with a "please." Thanks for being cordial! And since in the past I've told you what to do, we'll just call it even, I'm good!

But only the top 2 were things I've seen posted before, and I even commented on that. They are just the two biggest annoyances so I was reinforcing them. Maybe I posted in the wrong place, I don't know, it seems like this is what everyone else was doing. In any case I posted them on the external bughost site (and have added more since), and I won't post them here anymore.

  4. Replying to my own thread, I'm talking to myself.

Okay, I get it. They did three things in the second update.

    1) They removed the TestMode stuff, so that we wouldn't hack the unit. Oh well, too late.

    2) Removed the inappropriate "loading.bmp" image

    3) The changed the way the TTS files are delivered. They are the same files though. The original update had them in MiTACAP, the 2nd update in their own TTS directory.

I guess it's no big deal.

  5. Okay, now I'm confused.

In another thread about fixing lost TTS functions, Stephanie (goddess of the F-series hackery) posted a link to the update installation instructions on Pioneer's website, and I took a look, and I see directions that are quite different than the ones I used. I downloaded the update the first day it was released, on July 21st. I actually didn't get around to INSTALLING the F-series until recently though. When I installed it, I used the update that I downloaded 7/21.

The instructions I downloaded then didn't have a TTS folder at the top level, and the TTS functions display themselves differently in the UI (according to the new instructions.) BTW, I don't actually have a TTS problem, but ... the instructions changed, so maybe the actual update did too?

So, I downloaded the update again. I still have the zip file from the first update I downloaded a month ago, so I compared them. They are definitely different.

I looked at the text files in the zip archives. I found only one difference, in LPUE080\LPUE080APL.htm:

    First update: downloaded 7/21

    [2008 Navigation Application Release Record]

    Product : AVIC-F500BT/F700BT/F900BT

    20080714 16:43

    Release File : APL

    Release Version : 1.001700 20080714

    Second update: downloaded 8/21

    [2008 Navigation Application Release Record]

    Product : AVIC-F500BT/F700BT/F900BT

    20080723 11:38

    Release File : APL

    Release Version : 1.001700 20080723

It looks to me like there was a second built 7/23, two days AFTER the first update was released. Did I miss something and everyone knew this? It's the same version number -- will the system apply this update? I'll try it tonight.

    As for other easy-to-find differences:

The first update has MiTACAP and Testmode directories that are not in the 2nd update. The second update has a TTS directory that is not in the first update.

I will try to figure out the which binary files changed, if any.

  6. Thanks guys. Neither approach worked for #1 last night. Even rebooting it still resulted in the 3D map being fixed, and the arrows still in place.

However, this morning when I booted it up and drove to work, it came up normally. I guess it was just a bug.

On #3, let me just be clear -- it's actually the case that when you're on the phone, you can't do anything with the touch screen?

  7. F700BT. Purchased pre-update, but update was applied immediately after installation last weekend.

Of course, the first two are well known and oft-discussed, and yes, I know about the hacking effort that's been done to remove the boxes.

    1) Boot time!

    2) Annoying blue boxes. Yes, I've seen the post about hacking the unit to remove them.

    3) System occasionally reboots immediately after the first boot in the morning. Takes double the time to get started.

    4) While navigating, screen went totally blank today. Radio still playing. Did not respond to any controls, including the volume knob. No way to reboot without pulling over and shutting off the car.

    5) TTS can't figure out how to say some things. Local highway is called "highway 237". TTS system tells me "Merge onto 237 State Highway 2, (pause) 37 east" instead of "Merge onto State Highway 237 east." Probably something wrong in the map data, but it sure is annoying.

    6) Speed-sensitive volume doesn't work very well.

    7) No RDS data on FM. Come on, the cheapest radios have this. Shouldn't need digital (HD or Satellite) to get this.

    8) Can map to home, and it has a phone number set also, but can't use the phone icon in the lower-right when navigating home to call home.

    9) Wow, you have to turn the volume knob really far to get any significant volume change.

More coming, the more experience I get. I predict this list will get to at least 30 items before I've had 2 weeks of experience. We're on day 4 right now.

  8. I've had my F700BT installed for a couple of weeks now. I have read the manual many times. Yet, some things still confuse me.

I don't think these are software bugs (I have a pretty big list of those too, even after the update has been applied), these are just things I can't seem to figure out how to use.

    1) In 3D mode, if you tap the map, you get to rotate and tilt the map. How do you get it back to "normal?" How do you get rid of the adjustment arrows?

    2) In 3D mode, you can tap the map and fix it on the point where you tap. If you keep driving, the arrow moves but the map doesn't. How do you "release" the map and return to normal?

    3) When on the phone, the phone number is at the bottom with the hangup and volume buttons. The map screen is behind but doesn't seem responsive to taps. Is there a way to stay on the phone but dismiss the phone information, so that the system is still responsive?

    Anyone know?

  9. are you able to transfer phonebook from iphone 3g to the f90bt?
Yes. You can transfer the phone book.

I must be a complete iPhone newb (just got mine last week). How do I start the contacts transfer from the iPhone 3G?

Did you ever figure this out? Because it doesn't seem to transfer for me either.

  10. I bought an AVIC-F700BT from Crutchfield and received it this week. But it's still sitting in the box instead of in my dashboard, because I'm paralyzed by all of the negative feedback here. You guys have scared me out of this product.

So maybe you experts can help me figure out if there's something better.

The story is that I just recently bought a car without in-dash nav, for the first time in a while. I've always used factory systems, never any of the aftermarket.

What I want is, I thought, pretty simple: good touch-screen navigation, excellent bluetooth phone integration with voice activation that will work with my iPhone and my wife's Sony Ericsson phone, and a good AM/FM radio. Video playback is totally unnecessary, but music playback from an iPhone/iPod or memory card (USB/SD, don't care) would be a nice plus. The other thing is that I'm partial to the idea of having a real volume knob on the unit, rather than tiny little up/down buttons.

It seemed like the F700BT had it all and more ... in fact, the only negative I could come up with was that it doesn't seem possible to cue the voice activation function via the wired remote (i.e., my steering wheel button), rather, I'd have to press the button on the unit itself. If that was the only negative, I'd be a happy camper.

Unfortunately, based on what I'm reading on these forums, I'm not going to be a happy camper if I install this thing. Should I exchange it for the DNX5120? It definitely isn't as sophisticated, and it's not clear to me if the Kenwood bluetooth add-on thing can do voice dialing or phonebook transfer with the iPhone.

Is there nothing on the market that has the meager capabilities I'm looking for? Should I just stick with the F700BT?
