1. WHT - Thanks, that is what I was looking for that was the final deciding factor in getting rid of the z1 for the D3 done deal.
2. I was under the impression that the D3 controlled the video in some compacity. Some of the pics of the ipod screen show a video button in the top right corner of the screen I was hoping this had something to do with that, I have the rca setup with my Z1 and I I hate it, I was hoping someone finally integrated video into a direct connection with full controls scenario **pioneers description makes it sound as if video can be controled from the touch screen (quoted below) Connect and direct your iPod® How much music and video can you bring to your AVIC-D3? That depends on how deep your
3. Can someone with the unit clarify the video side of the ipod, it states on the Pioneer website (use ipod for full control) Can the touchpanel be used to go through and play video or does it have to be done through the ipod itself.
4. I am mainly going to the D3 because of the Ipod integration, I have had a Z1 one for about a year now and am not that impressed So I think I am going to to with the D3 and a XPV in dash dvd changer. On the bluetooth situation it actually comes down to the phone I have to use a smartphone for business and the only two available are the treo and the ppc 6700 both of which I have tried and both of which I have had problems currently I am using the ppc 6700 and it disconnects after a few minutes everytime. my concern is wether or not the pioneer bluetooth is going to resolve all issues with phone
5. Pulling Z1 out, Putting D3 in. I wasnt that impressed with the bluetooth on the z1 and have already seen the many connection problems with the BTB1 anybody know if I used a Parrott 3200 how that would affect the bypass, could I just stick a new wire and pin in the empty hole or does the mute pin have to vacant for the bypass - issue is the parrott has to have the mute wire and I wasnt for sure if the bypass required the mute pin to be vacant or if that didnt matter if the mute wire and pin were just being used because no one really used them. While I'm at it anyone have any info on the Ipo

Disappointment

I understand in the world of electronics its like computers, and changes and upgrades come as quick as the wind changes but Im not quite understanding Pioneer's logic here. Here I sit the Proud owner of a Z1 thinking it is the Flagship of the line, And out comes the D3 and I think man this thing is nicer than mine. I now its missing a few things but look at what it does offer that the Z1 doesnt or the Z2 doesnt. I'm sitting here contemplating a change. I cant see the plus in keeping the Z. Z1 Pro's 7 inch Screen HD (although I wouldnt call it a major Pro other than Navi but I have a
7. I would hold out, I have Z1 and I'm thinking of going to D3 sad that Z series is supposed to be the flagship and they are putting nicer features on other models Yeah its missing the HD but figure this the Z series $1400-$2000 depending on where you get it. D3-$1000.00, Pioneer Half Din DVD-CD Changer 500.00, Ipod $300.00 you have a unit with better Ipod controls, button lighting control, the HD for saving music on the Z is a waste of time and space, and you have a 6 disc dvd changer rather than single for less money. The only Negative's to this scenario that I can see is DVD navigation a Littl
8. I use mine all the time, The screen size is standard wide screen format meaning you will have black bars at the top and bottom on anything downloaded in widescreen which most are nowadays. Check Ipod settings but also make sure the aux output on the z1 is turned on this is done in the av settings menu, I had no signal as well till I found that little button hiding in there.
9. Ducatiboys bypass is the way to go I used my TR7's before his little jewel was invented. As for the dimming on the Tahoe. On my escalade which is basically a tahoe with different name badges, I could not find a ILL. Dim, there is a wire that comes off of the GMOS04 that sais ILL but when hooked up it does nothing. If you want the avic to dimm with the auto lights you will need to find a positive source for the headlights either at the switch or off the rear off the fusebox, I did mine off the switch and it worked no problem. So you will actually go from the Avic ILL wire to Ducati's circuit to
10. On the bypass I used a PacTR7 basically does the same thing as ducati boys Circuit. I ran my tR7 off of the Illum wire on the Avic which I believe was the orange wire. then at first came off of that with a wire to the parking light switch even with auto healights it would'nt mess with the screen until the switch was moved, then ended up taking that off and going straight to a toggle just for more flexability. So you should be good either way you go. I also have a viper 791vx W/ Remote Start and wired up this way or with ducatiboys circuit you will have all options as long as the illumination w
11. For some odd ball reason there isn't a dimmer wire for the factory units, I know the lights dimm on the factory unit but there is no dimm wire that I could find. I did have mine piggybacked from the switch. all you have to do is take a voltmeter or testlight turn on the parking lights and stick the test light in the harness until it lights up then splice in. I had mine hooked up there but actually since have removed and installed on a toggle under the dash. The Navi at night with daytime setting is crazy bright but I like the fact of it not dimming the av screens and if for some crazy reason I
12.
Hey sloppy...thanks for the install info. How long did it take you to do the install? I've installed many single din units, but never a double din. how much plastic did you have to break off? Do you have any pics of your completed install? I'm wondering whether or not I need an antenna adapter since I already have an aftermarket unit in my tahoe. Do you know if the antenna adapter is universal? Thanks.
I just reread your original post and since you do have the bose system you should have the piggy back for the vss, picture posted also if you don't alr
13. The install for the avic took roughly two hours maybe a little less. As far as the plastic I started with a small amount and kept fitting but ended up just taking out all the plastic behind the unit to make it easier for future additions once that stuff starts breaking it comes out pretty easy. With the antenna your probablly good to go and you may already have the Gmos in there as well as that is needed for all the GM goodies, it plugs into the GM harness and on the other end to the deck you wire in the power, acc, ground etc. etc. My pics are on my laptop which I can upload tomorrow, don't h
14. I had same problem ended up going to circuit city buying a double din kit for GM and cutting the plastic side mounts off and attaching to the z1 has worked like a charm
15. Hey guys , just caught this and wanted to throw some insight in. I have a Escalade EXT which is basically the same dash as yours. Sounds as if you have all the adapters, I think all I had was the GMOS04 and the antenna adapter. on the fitment two little things- 1. The Z1 (at least mine) did not come with any metal side plates for mounting, the gm one's are tacked on. I ended up using a plastic double din kit and cutting the side plates off and attaching to the Z1 to fit into the factory anchors. You could pry the ones off of the factory unit for a little stiffer brace but the plastic ones seem
