  1. Anyone have an AVIC N3 they aren't using? Mine is starting to give problems so it's going back to Pioneer for repair, but I'd like to have something to use till it's returned.

  2. How'd that work out?

Well, it was very educational to say the least. It turned out that one of the speaker wires was pinched between the door panel and the speaker frame. It was shorted to ground, and that took down all audio output, for left and right speakers, plus the pre-outs. As soon as we corrected the short, the audio worked normally.

But, I still haven't got the system to initialize and navigate in 3D since it was reinstalled. I really need to correct the brain installation as it's just sitting there without being firmly mounted. That's why I was looking for an installer in the area who might be able to take on a job like this. I expect we'll have to fab up some kind of bracket to hold the brain behind the dash. It won't fit under the seats of this truck.

  3. It sounds like you are not in 3D. If you go to the menu, then hit "Route options" then hardware settings, you will be able to choose a "button" that will show you the current settings. If it says 3D initializing, then your unit will act as you described.

In addition, the nav screen should show you the name of the street you are on at the bottom. If it does not then your unit is not relying on the brain to guide you. Take it back to the shop that did the install and have them reset the unit and try again.

  4. hey, i've had an n3 for a while now in my old car, and recently got it put into my new 06g35 sedan. I had it installed into a compartment with the cover mounted on top of the N3 blocking the day/nighttime sensor. I got into a dispute with the installer, they tried to overcharge me from what we agreed upon and i do not want to bring it back to them, and was wondering if you guys could help me find a way to fix this problem. I have taken the unit out and noticed that the Illumination wire was not plugged in. If i was to plug in this wire would it fix the day/night time problem? and i'll try to get pics up tomorrow to show you how my HU is mounted. thanks bobby

I doubt that will fix the problem. AFAIK that wire just sends the signal that the lights are on, which dims the display. It will still auto-dim when the external light source dims.

  5. I am very very angry wh JLong1987. I paid him for some update discs on October, 30th. I have not recieved anything. I paid thru paypal luckily. Now Im in the middle of a claim right now. He DOES NOT respond to any of my emails, or messages. I have been ripped off. BEWARE who you deal with. I updated all 3 of my D3's and I had a few customers at my shop who wanted them. I took payment for 10 sets. I ended up giving three of my sets that were for my car to 3 customers. I have 7 other customers who have waited over 2 weeks for there sets. They are mad at me. To top it off since I updated the nav in my 3 cars, I have no navigation anymore since I no longer have the discs and the original discs wont work anymore.

If there is anyone out here who can make me 7 sets. (East and west). I would really appreciate it. I can pay thru paypal instantly. I need them overnighted. i will pay all expenses. Thanks so much, Lu

Have you tried Pioneer? I hear they have plenty of disks ready to be shipped, and they all come with instructions in a nice package.

  6. I checked out my N3 again and couldn't find any reason for the audio to not work so I dropped it off at Pioneer this morning. We'll see what they say. It was just in for the $200 repair a little over 3 months ago, so they should cover this, even though they only give 90 days on repairs.

At least they were friendly about it.

  7. My N3 suddenly dropped the audio a couple of weeks ago. I only use it for nav, FM radio and back-up camera, but now there is no audio for the FM or nav voice guidance.

Changing the volume settings with the radio source selected shows the volume numbers increasing/decreasing, but there is no sound from the speakers.

I pulled the head unit and checked the connections to make sure they were plugged in properly. Any ideas before I sent it back to Pioneer? Could it be a plug on the brain isn't connected?

  8. yaaaah.. mine has done that a few times in areas i dont know, so i follow it like an ediot, only for it to tell me to get back on the highway, sooooo.. im upgraded to the 80 maps and solved my problem

but man!! was it annoying having to doubt your nav software

Mine did it WITH the 80MT upgrade, so that didn't solve it.

  9. Hey guys,

Trying to track my issue down couldn't find my issue on the search

Everything seems to work fine, except for music noise. Both my Ipod and radio will both load and show that its working properly but there is no sound of music, when i go to another song or station i do hear the system beep in the speakers. Any ideas why i would lose my music sound and not all sound? and how I go about getting it back??

    Thanks,

    Puck

Off hand, the volume could be turned down, the sound not directed to the speakers in the audio section, you may need to reset the system....

  10. I am currently having problems with my n3, the only buttons that are currently working are the volume and eject, everything else is non-responsive..

Also, my screen is blank, i checked it with a flashlight and saw nothing, so i dont think its the backlight. The touchscreen is responsive..

    Thanks!!

Was it working before? Was anything changed recently? Check your connections. If they are good then you will prolly have to send your unit in.

  11. THAT WEBSITE SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE VSS WIRE!

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE EXACTLY I HOOK THE VSS WIRE UP TO??! IT IS JUST HANGING OUT THE BACK OF MY N5 & I DONT KNOW WHERE TO CONECT IT TO ON MY CAR!

    ANY HELP??

Didn't you get any instructions with your unit? You need to hook it up to the wire in your car that carries the speed signal. You may be able to look that up if you know the make, model and year of your car......

  12. rather than face the pain of a worthless D3 I might just give into pioneer for $120 and just get it. If it messes up then pioneer owes me a new one or a better one.

Actually, there's a whole bunch of lawyer-speak that comes with the discs, and they tell you that it MAY mess up and they aren't responsible if it does. YMMV

  13. Hey all, I have a broken N3 that I want to fix. But, the problem is Pioneer only services them in house. Nobody is authorized to fix the Navi units. And, with the problem mine has you have to take apart the entire main unit.

Do you guys think its worth fixing? I'm really thinking about boxing it up, sticking it in the closet, and purchasing a brand new unit.

Anyone know of somewhere other than the factory that fixes these (other than the display and the motors)?

The N3 really is a good unit, and while the $200 that Pioneer charges is a bit on the steep side, your unit will be returned completely repaired, no matter how many parts or how much labor it needs. When you compare that to the cost of new, you just can't beat it. The only thing you get with new is a longer warranty.

    regards

    ~Marc

Marc, so $200 and they will repair it regardless of the problem? If thats the case then I'll just plan on sending it into them. Do they do a complete check of the unit to make sure its functioning properly before leaving the repair center?

    Thanks

Yes, they will fix anything and everything and send it back well packaged via UPS. They won't update the map program but that's no problem. Send in both the head unit and the brain, and they will check it all out and repair as necessary.

  14. For Sure! WHAT IS THE VSS WIRE FOR THOUGH??

What Does The Speed Sensor Wire Do Exactly?

It sends the signal to the Avic that tells it how fast the vehicle is going. It also provides another way for the Avic to "know" the vehicle is in motion.

  15. I'd like to add a DVD/CD player to my N2 so I may play CD's and DVD's while the map cd is in. Anyone know of a model that would work? Additionally, I need a new/updated map CD. What is the curent version and does anyone have one to sell/copy?

    Bill

Here's the address for the N2 manual:

I don't know if you can add an outboard DVD player to the N2, but once you select a location you can remove the nav disc and play a DVD/CD.

I sent you a message regarding the map update.
