  1. I personally wasn't able to notice the album art differences anyone was talking about because I had my contrast and brightness cranked around so much so that I could at least catch a glimpse of it on most albums.  I will change it back and followup to add more of my 2¢ as I find more.

    • I set the brightness/contrast levels back to their center points and I cannot see any of the album art

I couldn't see album art in Car Play before 8.3, and still can't see it with 8.3.  If I turn up contrast & brightness enough to see the album art, even a little bit, the icons/buttons on the main CarPlay screen become totally washed out.  Maybe someday they'll get it sorted out...

  2.

In the Z130 there's an option in Home / Settings / Maps / Display where you can turn on the rear camera. Is that not available on the older version?

    _Am

It is available on the Z110 - I've used it on mine. You are correct, it's one of the map display options with 2D, 3D, etc. The rear view is 2/3 of the screen and the map is the other 1/3.

  3.

This was just posted on Pioneer's Facebook page:

"Pioneer Electronics (North America) The main differences between last year's AVIC-Z130BT and this year's AVIC-Z140BH is the mapping now from NAVTEQ for superior navigation and improved POI search, Advanced App Mode and HD Artist Experience."

It would appear the Z130bt and below used Tele Atlas®.

I'm encouraged by this. Any update to the navigation should be an improvement - the Z110/120/130 have the worst navigation I've ever used.

  4. do you know if i buy a z110bt can i update it directly to the z130bt or do i have to go from z110bt to z120bt then to z130bt

I asked the same question and was told that I can update my Z110 directly to the Z130. I'm still waiting for the 130 map update to be released so I can verify.

  5. As far as reporting the errors to Tele Atlas, I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll correct it in a timely manner. A little more than a year ago I went to their website to report some errors (like you, my neighborhood is about 6 years old and my entire street doesn't exist on their map). I just checked their map and it still can't find my address. I went back to check the error reporting status and it still shows the same thing it showed a year ago - that they're working on it but the work hasn't been completed. Frustrating!

  6. The new TMC traffic option will in fact work on 110/120/920 units once you purchase the 130/930 map upgrade that will be released this summer. Yay!!!

The units still need a complete Nav revision, but I'm quite happy to finally hear this!

Since I haven't updated my Z110 to the Z120 software yet, would it be possible to update directly to the Z130, or do you have to first update to Z120 and then to Z130?

  7. And by the way, does anyone know if the Aha traffic even INTEGRATES with the navigation the way the current MSN does -- and the old XM NavTraffic did on the D3? From what I'm reading in the press releases and the Aha website, it just READS TRAFFIC INFORMATION ALOUD to you while driving. There's nothing to indicate Pioneer is integrating any Aha traffic info into the navigation itself....

This is looking less good by the minute...

Not sure if it will 'integrate' with nav on the new system or not, but I played with Aha traffic on my phone on the way home last night and you are correct, it's just someone reading traffic information, as if they were reading directly off a state Department of Transportation website. It lists ongoing construction projects, lane closures, and gives occasional warnings of congestion - but this was in rush hour traffic in downtown Seattle, so it was not surprising to hear that the roads I drive daily had areas of congestion this time of day. It might be handy to use for a minute at a time, but I will be extremely disappointed if this is expected to be an alternative to the ND-TMC10 traffic tuner for Z110 and Z120 owners. It in no way compares to a true nav traffic option.

  8. I've been playing with Aha on my phone this afternoon and some of the features are cool, but I don't think the traffic feature will be as helpful as a true 'traffic' overlay feature on the map that will re-route you to avoid heavy traffic. I'm interested to play with it in rush hour traffic tonight and tomorrow morning.

A note to Pioneer: "Since the new Z130 has a built-in traffic tuner, please offer a 2011 map update (with updated software for traffic overlay), and make a plug-in version of the traffic tuner, for Z110 and Z120 owners."

I have a Z110 and would gladly pay for a traffic tuner, 2011 maps, and updated nav software.

  9. You cant. That feature doesn't work and it hasn't worked for a while now. The only way to use geotagged photos is to take the photo with the app which makes this feature practically useless.

This may have been beaten to death already, but does anyone know WHY they disabled the original geotagging feature, or if it will ever be enabled again? You're right, the newer 'dumbed down' feature is pretty much uselss. To some it may have seemed little more than a novelty, but being able to have all your camera roll geotagged (or receive geotagged photos via text or e-mail) was pretty amazing and extremely useful... for example, a friend sent an iphone photo from a great photography site he found. It was off the main roads with no address. He sends the photo to my iphone, I save it as a contact and the AVIC routes me there to do a shoot. So simple.

Unfortunately, now I have to open the AVIC Feeds app to take a geotagged photo, which I never remember to do... I wish I could downgrade that app.

  10. I'v had the same complaint since I switched from an older Kenwood to the Z110. All in all I think the Z110 is a great unit, but I agree that if a 3" screen on a handheld Nav or a cell phone can clearly display every street name (and much more accurately in the area I live), I'm at a loss as to why an in-dash unit with a 7" screen only shows a few street names.

I still love the Z110, and like what I see with the Z120 upgrade, but I hope future upgrades focus on the Nav.

  11. Well not to worry, I went ahead and purchased my copy already so when it arrives I'll make an ISO and share whatever info you guys need... If you guys wouldn't mind donating a few bucks through paypal that would be appreciated too :D

I'm on my way out of town right now, but will hopefully be buying the upgrade in the next few days. My wife is even more excited than I am after watching the demo videos (she's a Pandora nut)!

We'll see how the install/update goes, and like mrt2, will also post whatever info you guys need.

  12. I got e-mail confirmation message from TeleAtlas a few hours after I submitted two errors to them.

They sent me a link to a status page that acknowledged that they received my error report, they see the problems, and are working on it.

    They also mentioned:

Tele Atlas makes updates to its maps every day, but it takes time for those changes to show up in our partners' products. Once the Map Insight Status Page indicates that your issue has been addressed at Tele Atlas, please contact your application provider to learn when the update will be available for your device or application.

Hopefully these changes show up on the 2011 maps.

  13. And if you find an error, report it to TeleAtlas, or it may never get fixed because they may not know about it.

    http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php

Awesome! I just submitted a couple errors to them, and have a couple more to send.

I agree with you VBLUE42 - No system is perfect, but I think the Pioneer comes very close in almost every way. Overall I like it more than my last unit (Kenwood DNX8120), and I loved that unit.

My frustration comes from spending $1000 on a flagship unit that is superior to most all-in-one units out there, but for some reason the nav portion feels outclassed by even cheap hand-held nav units. This should not be the case.

I guess my frustrations are with TeleAtlas because I've used a number of Garmin based units the past few years and the streets that I find missing on the Z110 have shown up on their maps.

Besides the maps, I love the Z110! and will keep submitting errors to Teleatlas every time I find one.

  14. I'm not so concerned about an upgraded audio interface, and I already stream Pandora from my iPhone. I have no idea what the Music Sphere thing will be and am sure that I will NEVER use the Eco feature.

I've only been using the Z110 for about a month, but the one thing I've been praying for from the very first use, is useful, up to date maps.

It boggles my mind that a new flagship model can have such out of date maps. There are times I just have to laugh out loud at how bad the maps are in this system. My neighborhood is newer but has been here for more than 5 years, yet my entire street is missing from the map, and some of the cross streets are either missing entirely or have a few blocks of them missing.

The other day I was driving in South Seattle and turned onto a major street that has been there for easily 50+ years, but as I turned onto the road the map showed that I was no longer driving on a road, there was just nothing there. A few blocks later, the map finally showed me driving on the road again.

The most frustrating part is that I've used a number of nav systems (a couple older Kenwoods, some $150 Garmin units, and a few cell phones) and not had this problem with any of them.

The Z120 upgrades would be nice, but PLEASE GIVE ME MAPS THAT HAVE ALL THE STREETS ON THEM!!!

The nav portion is a major disappointment on an otherwise very nice system.

  15. I switched phones to an iPhone at the same time I had my Z110 installed (previous unit was a Kenwood). The mic is directly in front of me on the steering column - my previous one was on the overhead above the rearview mirror. Both locations worked well, but my wife said when I call her now the calls sounds clearer. Not sure if it's the new phone, new headunit, new mic, mic placement...

Good luck with the Parrott mic. Have a buddy with a different phone than yours get in the car with you and make a call to the same person using each of your phones while trying different mic placement during each call, and have the person tell you what sounds best. That should help you narrow down whether it's mic placement or the phone that makes the bigger difference. If it still sounds like crap try a different mic and start over - should only take a couple minutes to narrow it down.

  16. There was an update to the AVIC Feeds app that showed up on the iTunes store yesterday. With the new version you can only use geo-coded pictures that you took using the AVIC Feeds app. Any other pictures you may have stored in your phone or that you may have received via email will not work.

After re-reading this post, I bet that's what happened. After getting it to work successfully one time, my iphone did the app update (actuallly a downgrade), so it now works as described above, which is disappointing.

If it worked perfectly, why would they release an update removes a lot of the functionality? Hopefully a future update will make it work as it originally did.

  17. The photo has to be in the camera roll or it wont work. Once the photo is moved to the photo album it will not show for geocoding from the app.

That's the part I can't figure out - I took about a dozen photos with my iphone last week and never moved them anywhere. They're all in the roll. I asked a friend in Idaho to take a photo with his iphone and text it to me to see if Avic Feeds could find the photos location. I saved the photo from the text into my roll but Avic Feeds doesn't see any photos at all on my phone.

The weird thing is that it worked perfect the first time I used it, but never again.

I can take a photo through Avic Feeds and it works fine, but not if I use the phone's camera.

  18. It worked one time and won't work again. I opened Avic Feeds on my iPhone and press the photo button on the bottom of the screen, but it doesn't see any of the photos in my phone. I got it to work one time a few days ago when I first downloaded the app, and it worked perfectly. I opened the contact in the Z110 and a map of the intersection in Las Vegas popped up where I took the photo last week. Very cool!

Today I tried to use it again with no luck. I wanted to test another photo from last week and a photo that another iPhone user e-mailed me today, but it doesn't find any of the photos on my phone.

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it with no luck.

I also saved two locations from the map and only one shows up on the contacts on the Z110.

What is going on? Any suggestions?

  19. I love this new unit, so this is not a Pioneer vs. Kenwood pissing match. But I have to agree that not having cross streets labeled seems like a huge oversight. My previous unit was a Kenwood DNX8120, and while everything about the Pioneer unit "looks" nicer and more modern, the Garmin maps in the older Kenwood were more detailed and the displayed info was much more helpful (especially while driving without route guidance).

Not having the next cross street name displayed doesn't seem like a big deal if you've never used it, but it can be a very helpful feature.

Here's an example: you're unfamiliar with a part of town and a friend calls to tells you to meet them somewhere but doesn't have an exact address ("Go about a mile down 1st Avenue and turn right on Olive street..."). If I don't know where Olive street is I'll have to look out the window at every upcoming street sign to know when to turn. Not the best option, especially in traffic or at night in poorly lit areas.

The Kenwood feature mentioned in the original post had the upcoming cross streets labeled as well as a banner across the top of the screen that displays the upcoming cross street. As soon as you enter an intersection the name in the banner changes from the street that you're crossing to the upcoming street on the next block, so you know the upcoming cross street name from a block away.

It's not a necessary feature if you're familiar with the part of town you're in or know exactly where you're going, but after using it for a couple years and now not having it in the Pioneer, it seems like a very helpful feature is missing.

I'll play with the zoom levels to see if I can find a setting that is more useful.

I've only had mine installed for a couple days, but I've also noticed that the maps seem grossly out of date. Even though the unit is brand new and the installer checked for all firmware & software updates, the unit can't find my address and none of the roads in my entire neighborhood are displayed. The newest roads in the area are all at least 4 years old, but the map shows no streets for blocks in any direction around my house. My three year old Kenwood displayed everything accurately.

The rest of the unit is very nice, but to me the nav is the most important feature, so I'll keep playing with the nav settings before writing it off as a waste of money, but so far I'm a bit disappointed.

  20. Eight week turnaround. I mailed my rebate form on January 7 and got my check on March 5.

It's stupid that the check is basically a postcard, and not inside an envelope. Everyone can see that it's a $200 check with a signature block on the back. I won't be surprised if some get stolen out of the mail and forged.
