  1. Please,

Can anyone tell me wich are the risks from updating european units with the usa firmware)

. Did anyone try it out?

    Thank you

for what purpose? to use a European unit in the states? The European units have newer firmware than the US units.

  2. When the d3 was made all ipods supported 12v firewire charging. So thats what pioneer made the cable charge using the 12v firewire leads since there is no conversion needed. New ipods/iphones only support usb charging now so there is your problem. People are apparently making adapters, and i know kensington has a passthrough that charges via a usb connector.

    Uhhhhh...what?

iPods at that time had all switched to USB charging. And Apple changed whatever lead it was using to charge the newest iPods...for some stupid reason.

They still supported firewire charging (not syncing) which is what changed, new ipods and iphone 3g do not support firewire charging.

  4. Getting to the service menu and these steps are exactly like the D1 pretty much. You will have to have the remote and one of your original discs.

The numbers on the remote work like a 4 way dpad when navigating. The 5 key works as enter in some menus, in some menus the 7 key did the job i think, and in some menus 1 was Back instead of 4 i think. I could be wrong about these but you shouldn't mess anything up pressing the wrong one.

    Service Menu

    1. Hold eject and reset at same time, release reset button once screen blanks out. Do not release eject button yet.

    2. Screen will say "please push reset button". Release the eject button at this point.

    3. Take your remote and enter 8 1 8 3 7 2 0 8

    Flashing Software.

    1. Once the service menu appears push 6 to go to the next page.

    2. Use the 8 key to scroll down to "PROGRAM FORCED WRITE", select it with the 5 key.

    3. Insert one of your navigation discs.

    4. Select "SYSTEM PROGRAM"

    5. Select "DVD/CD ROM". I think i used the 7 key to select it on this screen.

    6. If it asks to select your language then select your language. i chose English and i think 7 was used again here to select it.

At this point you should see the % go up and eventually it will be done and you can press either the 1 or 4 key to go back to the "PROGRAM FORCED WRITE" screen.

    Flashing Software part 2

    1. Once back at the "PROGRAM FORCED WRITE" screen. Choose "APPLICATION PROGRAM". Follow the exact same steps we used in the "SYSTEM PROGRAM" area to do the flash here.

    Finishing up

    1. Once the flashing is done use the back buttons to get back to the original test screen. I honestly dont remember what i pressed to get back to it. It may have been the "clear" button on the remote.

    2. Press the 6 key on your remote to go back to the second service menu page.

    3. Scroll down to "CLEAR BACK UP MEMORY" (i think its option 5)

    4. Select it with the 5 key. It should ask you to reset now. Press reset and you will be back using the old 2007 maps.

If you are doing this to sell your unit and the unit is not in your car you will have do the bypass on your workbench (ground the parking brake wire and move the mute wire) to reset factory defaults or your favorite places will still be in the system. I do not know if this info can be reset from the service menu.

  5. Yeah, you get that, but just ignore it. Everything works correctly.

Does it charge it, though? That error message seems pretty mysterious to me because random accessories will get that message and charge it while others get the message and won't charge it. Ideally I'd like to be able to play movies while it charges.

Who knows, maybe I'll just break down and buy a classic and not worry about it.

The warning just means that the unit doesn't have the shielding to avoid GSM buzz. Has nothing to do with the charging or if the unit works with the device.

  6. Awesome, one more question. looking at the clock, what number do i change to move it up?

y z or w. I made it bigger but it overlaps the compass now so i need ot move it up some

x=### is the value in pixels from the left side of the screen to the left edge of the text.

y=### is the value in pixels from the top of the screen to the top edge of the text.

w=### is the width of the text in pixels (handy for centring or right-justifying)

z=### is the 'layer' to get stuff above other stuff. Higher z = more visible. Useful for putting text ontop of background graphics.

h=### is the height of the text in pixels (handy for vertical alignment)

    Cheers!

edited to add: All of which means, to move the text up, make the Y number smaller.

Thanks, wish there was a page that just had this stuff listed

  8. kryngle the west disk wont work for u if u live in toronto u need the east disk..if u have put the disk in and it wont read it roll back to you old dvd's

I know but I will be makin a trip to L.A. this winter so I would like to have this disk as well. I havent even got to the stage of even testin this in the D3 since Im still tryin to get a successful burn... Shit I sound so damn annoyin. SOrry everybody its jus fustrating not gettin this to work out for me

Once you put it in you will not be able to use your 2007 east disc.

  9. im thinking of getting an F700 to replace my D3 because i really like the igo software, used to use igo8 on my mio 310x which i think is what the F series uses. Are you able to use the maps and data released onto the internet for other igo devices or does it have to be signed by pioneer or some other nonsense?

Also how much storage does the F700 have and is it expandable for larger map udpates.
