  1. Exactly. This doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy about CarPlay actually working IF it actually gets released by the end of this year. Pioneer should be deeply ashamed of themselves for blatently selling hardware on false promises and broken functionality. I am beginning to wish I had waited for Alpine's version.

i have been say this a long time. this is a disaster that Pioneer should of been on top of. instead they left their decks lacking advertised features with a good amount of bugs to focus selling decks with software they had no control of. this will be the last pioneer product i buy!

  2. I have an older Alpine INA-W900BT with the PXA-H100 Imprint processor in my Nissan Versa. The Imprint made a huge difference in the imaging in my car. I'm now looking at getting the AVIC-8000NEX and interested in how well the AutoEQ does. Hoping it does a similar job. I would look at another Alpine, but I would need a $700 processor to get Imprint on the new head units.

As soon as CarPlay is final on the 8000NEX, I think I am going to pull the trigger!

imaging and EQ are two completely different things. The nex series does have some imagining like settings that will adjust where phantom center sits and probably has a exciter built in to add a little width in the highs but that is all. there is also Auto EQ which can adjust timing among other EQ related things.

  3. I have the iDatalink maestro hooked up. Right now, all I get is steering wheel controls because I have it hooked up to the analog (1/8" mini remote connection). Once the Pioneer firmware update is out, I will be able to hook up the iDatalink to the 8 pin digital port, and have access to the stock Ford sync, USB and Bluetooth mic.

another feature that was advertised and not really there!

  4. Did you buy your NEX unit off eBay, a third party or from their website? Their website clearly states it all in plain English. It says that the items you describe will be in a future update. No bait and no switch. If you bought a NEX HU thinking that the maestro, avicsync and carplay were baked into the current firmware, then you did not do your research or your did not read the description page on the website. It's not buried in small print at the bottom of the page, it's right there under each feature.

If someone sold you the unit with the promised features, I would cry to them instead of blaming Pioneer and shedding tears here.

crying... no! i just think your DEAD WRONG!!! "coming soon" was not listed on the site i purchased from. nor did pioneers site have any disclaimers when the NEX pages went live and i was doing research. in addition i watched a ton of demos where those features were highlighted. regardless you don't advertise features that don't work. you certainly don't go highlight those things on product boxes until they work. your thinking of just because pioneer says "coming soon" it ok and pioneer bares no responsibility because they put up a disclaimer after units were sold is seriously flawed!

  5. I believe that the maestro idatalink was advertisd to work with ford sync in a future update. The gauges were never advertised to work, but the steering wheel controls work just fine. I have a meastro hooked up to my 8000 on my Ford Edge. If you go to the maestro site, they show very clearly what functions are available for each car model and radio type.

As far as the AppRadio, that feature is there. It just does not work very well. Avicsync is missing, but again, they said it would be released in a future update.

It's not fale advertising if they say it is going to be in a future release. It is also not false advertising to have a feature that sucks. All that is, is a feature that sucks.

It actually is false advertising when something is listed on a box but buried in a manual states future release. It falls under the "bait and switch" law. this gets some companies in trouble but most get by without a issue. a example would be a advertisement that states quantity or weight a certain price on a item. when you go to buy the item if the quantity or weight is less then advertised at the same price it is "bait and switch" and false advertising. you can substitute a item in its place but it has to be of equal or greater value then the advertised item. that is advertising 101 and i thought common knowledge.

  6. Assuming the firmware that Pioneer submitted to Apple for release is a "bug fixes and core feature additions + CarPlay" update, I'd prefer they let Apple do it's thing. If they separated the two, that would only push the release of CarPlay even further out, as they'd have to validate two separate firmwares as just that...two separate firmwares. By validating a single, unified firmware, they're actually accelerating things. Again, assuming the above is the case. Given CarPlay is probably (maybe) more highly anticipated, I'm thinking they would opt to validate once and ship somewhat "late," as opposed to validating twice and shipping CarPlay even later.

it sounds you really want carplay. i think it cool but i want my deck to work as advertised! i have had the deck installed for a few months. i purchased it because of features that were on the box but no where to found. Pioneer mislead its customers and now Pioneer is using carplay as a vehicle to sell units! with advertising that makes think it has all these great feature but it doesn't! not even Carplay which Apple could decide it needs another 6  months before its ready. early summer release day to xmas 2014.... we will still be waiting!!!!

  7. As the tweet said, the early August date was just a guess on their part. Sadly, I don't think Pioneer itself knows any more about this than we do at this point. Looks like it's all up to Apple now.

if that is the case... strip carplay from the update and give the customers their bug fixes and features!

  8. so i purchased a very similar HP flash drive a few months ago. disk utility reported more then 512mb. i thought that was very odd. i used the drive for a bit and it became unstable. slow read and write speeds. then finally it just wouldn't mount, the drive had failed. i did a little research and found out flash drives are heavily counterfeit. luck for me the seller gave me a full refund. i now will never purchase a flash drive from ebay as none can be trusted.

i would make sure you don't have any important files on their and back it up!

  9. Got it... :). I own a small 15 person company in NC, with a small three person support staff. Hell, I can't get those three to send out a constant message, I hate to think what it would be like herding cats at a large company like Pioneer. Hey, but I am on board with you guys. Let's get this show on the road Pioneer, and deliver the product that was promised.

your essentially saying your ok with advertising features on product your selling to your customers and not delivering. This was a illegal sales tactic in the US. its called bait and switch, look it up! there is no way you can argue your way out of that. this isn't about carplay this is about making customers whole on their purchases. which Pioneer seems to think it is more important to focus on new features rather then getting people what they paid for in a timely fashion. there is truly no way to argue around this.

  10. Guys, pleas remember when you call Pioneer and ask a question, you are not getting an official response. You are talking to some customer support person who would not have the inside scoop on release dates. 10 of us can call, and we may get 10 different answers. The only information you can hold them to is their official press releases and the web site info. Anything else is colored ballons.

which makes it worse because. it says the company doesn't communicate with the support staff.

  11. I have been following technology for many, many years. And yes, I do know Pioneer very well. I regularly attend CES, and I was at CES when Pioneer anounced the NEX line of recievers. As an Apple developer, I have been fortunate to attend their WWDC for the last few years, and I was at the event that announced CarPay in 2013. I am fully aware of the timing of both, and Pioneer did not commit to adding CarPay to the NEX line until their April announcement.

If I read your post correctly, you are actually agreeing with my assessment. That some are having unrealistic expectations about a feature that was announced to be delivered in a time frame that has not yet expired.

no we are not on the same page here and i don't agree. If you need to hire more help to stay on schedule that is what you have to do. there is no excuses in the professional work world for something like this. i can understand a small companies and kick starter project giving month based release time frames. Pioneer is none of that and continues to live up to a less then desirable standard. it reminds me of the early 2000's where MS would delay and delay and totally miss the mark when the product was actually released.

  12. Just what information has been given to us that was horribly inaccurate? It seems to me our definition of early summer ending at the beginning of July is the only thing that strikes me as inaccurate. As far as I know, Pioneer has not broken any delivery promise to me. When I purchased my 8000 I knew full well that CarPlay was not baked in the firmware yet, and an early summer update was needed. I also knew that the AvicSync was not available yet. You can't blame Pioneer for your expectations.

when did you purchase your deck? when i purchased mine there was no talk of carplay. then all of a sudden it seem like it was their main focus. I'm not attacking you or your comment but it seems like you recently purchased and don't know the company very well.

  13. Wow...

I work as a product manager for a CE company, and I feel like telling consumers like you to have a little respect for the hard-working people at companies like Pioneer and Apple (people just like me...and perhaps you), and stop acting like such an entitled @ss.

If you bought a NEX HU in anticipation of CarPlay, then you knew it would be released "early summer." If you didn't, then you should have done a little more basic research. The NEX receivers were never launched with CarPlay as a feature -- not even as a future feature. CarPlay was announced in partnership with Apple well after their announcement. What Pioneer is selling to customers are products with the features originally announced at launch. Pioneer has had to shell out serious cash to launch CarPlay as a feature, so just be happy that it's coming, that you'll be one of the first to be able to take advantage of it, and that they haven't jacked the prices of NEX units.

    Get a grip. Don't be a d*ck.

Real people and real companies stick to deadlines and communicate with their customers. if had gone through HS and maybe Community College you would surely know this. secondly if you had done a little research you would realize that Pioneer had advertised features at the launch of their NEX line that were not included or communicated that these features would not work till a ambiguous date in the sky!

hows this for a example. you purchase a apple pie for Thanksgiving. i bake you the apple pie and deliver it. i didn't tell you there would be no apples in it. after a few calls to customer service i tell you i will deliver the apples and whip cream sometime before the end of July? the whip cream is very hard to make but, funny thing is no one asked for the whip cream!

  14. Car Play was announced at the 2013 WWDC (I was there), and the API's have been available to developers since iOS 7 was anounced at that some conference. As an Apple developer, I believe you will see Car Play enabled by Pioneer along side a new 7.xx release of iOS 7. App compatability and performance are going to be the main factors. Rumor has it that 7.1.2 will be released soon, and I would bet this when Pioneer releases their update.

With Pioneer saying that Car Play is done, and they are waiting on Apple is most likely true. But that is just one manufacture. The OEM's, and the other aftermarket providers all need to have their particular implementations approved by Apple and working well with iOS 7 and iOS 8. My gues is they won't release it until all of the partners have their particular implementations ready. Othewise Apple might be forced to release more incremental updates to accont for minor differances between systems.

great insight. its nice to have devs on this forum to another level of understanding and reasoning.

I totally agree when there is more then one partner involved development slows down. but heres is were i and others get pissed at Pioneer. Carplay compat was announced far after the NEX decks were introduced a week or two before CES and i think units were even shipping before that before Carplay announcement. i think this thread is more about Avicsync then Carplay. Pioneer didn't have to include Carplay and i actually don't think it should of been included in this update because it seems more like a rush job and a way to buy more time. people are upset because there are listed features they couldn't use out of the box. those features may have been some peoples deciding factors to purchase NEX units. no disclaimer or public announcement to date saying you can't use X, Y, or Z or when you can use those things. Pioneer goes on like they did no wrong. i think that is a sign of disorganization within a company and a company as big as Pioneer shouldn't have these kind of issues.

I am pretty sure Pioneer can't do this in the UK because their strict truth in advertising laws.

  15. doing web searches pulled up nothing with a 5:3 aspect ratio but.....iPhoto on my iPad can crop to that!  Why didn't I think of that earlier!  DAMMIT!!!!

Now I need to crop a good photo of our cats for the wallpaper.  My wife is REALLY loving the 7000NEX as well as the maestro SW that makes it all happen from her steering wheel.  the VOICE button does activate Siri.  We were looking into a luxury vehicle for her, but she is more than content with this.

We're also now going to toss away her 2010 factory OEM radio.  With this setup, there's no reason anybody would want the original, when it's time to resell this.

    i was bored.
