  1. bottom line is if a thief wants your system, they will get it. it doesnt matter if you have the best alarm in the world. if youre not there to hear it or do anything to stop it, its useless...it just makes a loud noise, which would scare amatuers away, but not the ones who can make a living off doing this kind of thing. the best thing to do is to insure everything you buy.

as for the discussion about shops bein shady, YES SOME SHOPS WILL DO THAT, so for anyone on here whos defending installers and calling other members 'dummies', get your head out of your ass and realize that it does happen. theres a place not 5 minutes away from me that hands out complimentary license plate frames with their company name on them, and then look for those frames like targets, and steal back what they sold. and since most places ask for your information, give them a fake address.

but a helpful tip to make it harder, if not impossible for the thief to take your stuff:

its called a security screw. my father showed me it (hes a contractor) when i was installing my z1 a while back and i dreaded having to get them out...i needed to use a dremil to get them out. it uses a flathead tip and can only be turned clockwise. its near impossible to get the screw out once in because of the curves sides on the other side. get a box of them and change all your hardware to that screw.

remember if they cant just pull it out they will break things alot of the times your 1200 / 1500 / 2000 dollar indash will be cheaper than relplacing ur whole dash , one tip for people with alarms, buy a backup- battery siren the battery is in the siren it dont matter how many cables they cut it will keep going off until the battery wears off usualy about 45 min only way to shut it off after set off is with a key like a safe has works very good almost every alarm that leaves my shop has one

  2. Guys,

If any of you can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have an AVIC-D3.

I downloaded the East disk (downloading the West also currently), and burned it. No problems, and everything went fine.

I slipped it into the head unit, and it began the update, which took maybe a minute. However, now it continues to tell me to "Insert appropriate disk" and will do nothing else. If I take it out, and put it back in, it does the "Checking disk" deal, and then immediately gives me the same message about the "inapproriate disk".

    Help?!?!

    Thanks,

    Bryan

try cleaning your dvd pickup lens with a lens cleaner also try different buning program as some work some dont

  3. Is anyone else having issues doing a POI 'Search by Vicinity' off this West disc, or is it just me? Please give it a shot next time you get in the car if you would.

The filesize I've got matches the one on the FTP, and it was burned on low speed on Verbatim media.

if your having trouble with POI search or address search most likely your unit is having trouble reading the disc all the time so either your disc has a bad burn or you might have a problem like i did my dvd pickup lense was extremely dirty i picked up a normal dvd lens cleaner from walmart after it was cleaned it worked great and dont have this problem anymore

  4. i made the mistake of downloading in vista the 4GB west file.... burned and tried to update, it updated then stopped and says please insert appropriate disc.

i came back, downloaded the 8GB version and burned. once i stuck it in it updated and then went back to "please insert approriate disc" again. what can i do now? am i screwed? is there a way to downgrade to the original version?

the unit(d3) doesn't respond to anything now... the OEM disc doesn't seem to help...

    please help

if the d3 is like the n1-n3 or d1-d2 YOU CAN BACK DATE THE DISC BY GOING INTO THE PIONEER SERVICE MENU YOU DO THIS BY PRESSING RESET BUTTON AND HOLD THEN HOLD EJECT AT SAME TIME THEN RELESE REST AND RELEASE EJECT AFTER THIS IS DO IT WILL SHOW "PRESS REST'' THEN WITH UR TOGGLE PRESS UP-RIGHT-UP-RIGHT-DOWN-RIGHT-DOWN-RIGHT FIND THE OPTION THAT SAYS FOURCE PROGRAM ENTER HERE AND FOURCE THE 1ST AND 3RD OPTION WITH YOUR ORIGINAL DISC AFTER THIS IS COMPLETED GO BACK TO MAIN SERVICE SCREEN AND RESET SAVED OPTIONS I BELIEVE #6 AFTER THIS IS DONE PRESS RESET BUTTON AND LET THE UNIT RESTART THEN YOU ARE DONE!
