  1. so it is true now that the contacts can be listed properly with first name, then last name?? What about caller ID recogonition for incoming calls? What is the trick to make the AVIC recognize the incoming calls. I know to remove all symbols....but does this mean to remove the "1"prefix, and what about the "( )" symbols?

  2. just curious, did that solve your problem with the bluetooth? mine does the same thing, but it doesnt degrade over time, it just sucks to begin with. my g/f can never understand me when i call her...she says everything is distorted and difficult to understand.

YES - It solved the problem. I had the unit exchanged and that was over a week ago and I havent had any problems since! Other than the occasional dropped Ipod connection (which is extremely annoying) the unit has been working great.

Im not sure what the deal was with the bluetooth, but it was absolutely unbearable. It wasnt like a muffled or distant sound but an high pitch wail or everything was completely garbled......impossible to have any conversation with. I would get the unit exchanged. Let me know what happens!

  3. i have an iphone, the original....not the 3g and voice dialing works fine. Make sure you say the name exactly how it is displayed in your contacts list....which is probably backwards. Seems like everyone with iphones is having their contacts listed, Last name...then first name. And there is no fix for this that im aware of right now. So........to call "John Smith" you are probably going to have to say "Call Smith John Mobile." let me know if that works.

  4. make sure after you update your phone book on the AVIC you turn on VR mode and let it cycle through and update the VR library including ipod if you have one attached. Also, at least on my phone, the contacts are listed last name, then first name so make sure you are speaking the contacts the same way they are listed on the avic.

But yes.....voice recogonition is not the best. It "works" but not nearly like the demo's on pioneers website....

  5. I too have an issue with the ipod on my F90bt. About 20% of the time it drops the connection about 2 min after startup and the only way to get it to re-connect is to shut down the power and start again. Im taking my unit it to get replaced tomorrow because ive been having major issues with the bluetooth phone quality and my iphone....which doesnt seem like a common complaint on this board......getting a high pitch intermittent whail on the other end of the line....so hopefully a new unit will solve the problem. We shall see........

  6. I too am having issue's with connecting the ipod, on the f90bt. I get no audio from it, first of all. However, it takes ages for the VR load on it, preventing me from accessing the rest of the Ipod controls.. as if I actually got volume from the Ipod.

Other then that I love the system, and the Bypass posted here worked just fine.

Turn VR off in the AV settings, you only need to turn it on when you update your ipod library and want to update the voice commmands.....otherwise it uses the pre-existing library.

Also in your AV settings, make sure that your AV1 source is set to ipod, otherwise it will look like its playing but no sound. When it is installed it defaults to something else other than ipod, and whenever you reset it you have to change the source.

  7. Another issue to add to the list...first few days the bluetooth worked fine......... but...lately when im using bluetooth to make calls, the call starts out fine, then about 5 minutes into the call...the other party can not hear me, but i can hear them talking to me absolutely fine. The complaints i get are "real windy" and "is that a fire-truck?" ....a high pitch whinning sound. None of this i can hear on my end.

After I hang up, and call back, the issue remains until i shut off the unit, and start over. The first call is fine for the first few minutes......then same problem again. Ive re-paired the phone with the unit, and re-set the unit as well. Its basically just real inconsistent as when this problem will start up.

yes i have the update with the newest firmware as my box has a blue dot on it.

--PLEASE ANY HELP/SUGGESTIONS would be greatly appreciated.---

PS. Im using an iphone, and the mic is located right above rear view mirror. Prior to this everyone said it sounded great! frustrating

  8. All right, so ive got the 90bt up and running.....i am pretty satisfied with it. It does take about 50 sec to become up and running, and about 1:30 before the iphone gets connected. Ive also noticed that for the first few minutes the unit is kinda "laggy" until it gets fully booted up, but after about 3 minutes its running great.

One issue ive had, has happened a few times, is when the system is booting up, and after the iphone connects to the avic, it will lose the ipod connection and unplugging it and re-plugging it in does not seem to work....it will keep telling me the ipod connection has failed. The only fix is to completely shut off the power and re-start, kinda annoying since by the time this has happened the power has been on for about 2 minutes and im already on the road! Anyone else experience this problem??

Also, the voice recogonition works about 50% of the time....im guessing its because ive got over 6000 songs in my ipod and sometimes it has a hard time matching up exactly what ive said with the thousand of options in the ipod.

Also.....IS there ANYWAY to change the TSS voice for voice commands. Ive got Jason for the navigation, but i couldnt find anywhere to change the computer voice for when you are attempting to make a call or change artists......that computerized samantha is extremely annoying when she is telling you she doesn't understand you!

    Thanks in advance!

  10. So i just had my 90bt installed, and when i plug in my Ipod, it appears in the menu and according to the display, everything is working properly and im able to change tracks, albums, etc, but unfortunately no sound comes out. Tried looking through all the settings, but couldnt find anything. Any suggestions before i go back to the shop, hopefully something that could be fixed on my end???

    Help!

  11. Interesting.....Ive never heard that you have to say the last name first.....I wonder if there is a fix for that. I know in the iphone you can change the sorting order so it organizes by first name........I wonder if you do that and re-transfer the phone book if it will work correctly. So how do you voice dial someone that has multiple numers? And also.....if you add contacts to your phone, do you always have to re-send the address book or will the AVIC recognize there has been a change and basically "sync" the address book or is it all manual?

I have actually swapped it in my iPhone to be first name first, and then did a resync, same scenario. If there is only a single number for a contact, no need to say "mobile" if there are multiple you have to specify. Otherwise it will say "I have multiple numbers for Smith John, which one do you want?"

I think I replied to your other thread about get your F90 installed, if you figure out how to get your address book going the other way around let me know!

Oh, you do have to sync it up any time you do a change in your addressbook. If only there was mobileme on this thing!

So it creates multiple contacts under the same name but then it differentiates between mobile, work, and home on all of those contacts. So for example.....Dan Smith has 3 numbers....home, work, and mobile....it creates 3 separate contacts...Dan Smith Home, Dan Smith work and Dan Smith Mobile???? And to voice dial you just say, Smith Dan mobile and it works?? Thats not that bad....i was afraid you would not be able to voice dial anyone with multiple contacts cause it would get confused. Ill let you know if i find a fix for the reverse thing. Finally......ive heard problems with incoming calls not displaying contact name....any experience with this or has it been working fine???????????????

  12. I transferred my phone book just fine, no issues there (although it makes me say the last name first when doing voice dailing...) So instead of John Smith, I have to say "Smith John mobile".

Otherwise all the BT functions are working just fine, just VERY loud! :)

  13. iphone transfer went easy but when you have multiple numbers for a contact there is still that bug where the avic doesn't know what to do so it creates an individual contact for each number... resulting in the same name for different numbers and you don't know what is what until you call them.

Does voice recognition work??? And is it displaying the contact name on received calls as well.....these are problems ive read about in the past and just wanted to see if the issues have been resolved. Thanks!

  14. Hey folks,

Another annoyance/issue I've seen with my F90BT bluetooth is volume. I have turned the two volume options down to 1 click above the lowest (otherwise no sound is heard at all), and it still scares the bejeesus out of me when I get a phone call! Caller's voices are also incredible loud!

I have tried adjusting the volume on my phone bluetooth volume (iPhone) as this works great with every BT headset I've used, but has had no effect on F90BT.

Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce the volume for both incoming rings and call volume?

How was transferring contacts from your iphone into the 90Bt? Pretty easy? Do the contact names appear on the screen when you have an incoming call? What about multiple numbers for the same contact? Im getting a 90bt installed shortly and want my 1st gen iphone to integrate well with the 90bt.

  15. Im getting a 90bt installed in my vehicle in the next few days....and was just looking for a few suggestions on how to maximize the functionality of the unit.

    1. Where is the best place to install the bluetooth mic? Steering column , A post, above the rear view mirror? Bluetooth call quality is extremely important to me

    2. Iphone and Ipod. I will be using and Ipod classic to hold my music collection and my iphone as my telephone. Ive read multiple threads on getting contacts to transfer over to the F-series and when the calls are received, only the # shows up, not the contacts name. Im just looking for the easiest way to get the numbers to transfer over with the contacts name. Anyone who has an iphone and has done this......any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone with luck on voice dialing contacts from the iphone?

Any other suggestions to get this unit up and running smoothly with the least amount of headache possible would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time/suggestions!!!

  16. Kenwood has an iPhone specific Bluetooth update for the DNX8120 and the KCA-BT200 used with the other DNX units. You just have to call them and they will email you the update

Do you have experience with this iphone update? Did it improve the performance or anything like that?? Im so close to buying this unit, but still trying to make some final decisions and come to terms with spending 1500! If you have experience with this update and iphone usage on the 8120 it would be greatly appreciated. Thank u

  17. The 8120 has the same problem for a lot of people with iphones that the F series had in the beginning in that the other person can here some static from your voice. There is a workaround that you can do. When making or receiving a call you can switch to the phone and then back to the 8120 and that clears up the signal for that call. This has to be done with every call. I also had several minor bug issues with the 8120 when I had mine. They were all reported to Kenwood. Their product support staff is top notch I must say. Far different world then trying to deal with Pioneer support.

    VBlue42 -

Im not sure what you mean when you say "you can switch to the phone and then back to the 8120." I have heard that there is some difficulty with the iphone, but i mostly heard that you need to turn WiFi off when using it with bluetooth as the wifi is pulling lots of power and the bluetooth signal is already weak in the iphone. Any comments?? Also, i dont know if it matters, but i was planning on using a different ipod for music, not the iphone.......not sure if that had an impact on phone quality if you were trying to use the iphone as your mp3 player and phone at the same time??

A few more things....when you transfer the phonebook to the 8120, does it store it on the unit or just read off the iphone every time.....for example if i am constantly adding contacts to the iphone phonebook, will i need to keep transferring them to the 8120 every few days, or will the 8120 recognize the changes.

Finally.......if you have contacts with multiple #s....ie Jon Doe home, work, cell.....how does it display in the contact screen? I know the F series just listed "Jon Doe" 3 separate times so you had no idea what listing was what.

I'd like to get the unit real soon, but i havent been able to get answers to those questions......its nice to be able to ask a real iphone owner!

    Thank you!

  18. Anyone here using the 8120 with the iphone and bluetooth? I have heard that the call quality is good with the 8120 but was wondering specifically about the iphone. Also the phonebook transfer.....how well does it transfer contacts...AND...if you have multiple numbers under the same contact...ie work, home....how does it display on the screen.

I know the the F series just lists the same person multiple times as it is unable to categorize contacts!

    Thanks for the info!

  19. That looks great....i have an 08 tacoma and am looking to install a unit as well. Where did you get the dash kit....the one at my local Al-Eds, is a matte finish, and ideally i want to get a dash kit that is riveted like tacoma comes from the factory. If i can avoid it i dont want the stereo to be a matte finish and the finish around the AC/heat controls to be riveted....if you know what im talking about.
