  1. Have you factored in the programmability of the F series? It's running Windows CE..which several here have cracked to allow a tremendous amount of customization including the adding of speed/redlight camera warnings on the nav portion, the updating of the XM/Sirius logos as needed (due to channel changes), customization of shortcut icons and buttons, font, etc, etc. Can all of this be done with the JVC? i don't think the JVC has that much hack & customization available. But it seems to work right out of the box. It doesn't run on Windows CE but on more the more robust Windows Autom
  2. Hi guys, I'm in between an AVIC F900BT and a JVC KW-NX7000. I would prefer the extra features of the AVIC but I don't want to battle with problems. With the new firmware (V2.0), it is a trustable unit now? My primary needs are navigation and Bluetooth functionality, I don't plan to use a backup camera. Thanks for your inputs. Charles
  3. Hi guys, Lou, would you mind in sending me the contacts you spoke to at JVC? You can send it to me by private message if you want to keep confidentiality. The girl at JVC Canada was not very helpful and sounded depressive. I need to speak with them about their theft-deterrent face plate. I'm questioning this feature because I went to their parts web site and could see plenty of face plates. If they are selling them without asking the serial #, name, address and look in their registered user data base, I just don't see the point of the face plate removal. At the limit, I don't c
  4. Trick, LOL... No luck, I don't work for JVC. I'm reading as much I can to make sure I'm buying the right thing and at the same time trying to help others. If I was woking there, I could benefit from a nice discount and wouldn't have my self to get as much info & input I can. Maybe it's not too late for you to get another unit instead. If you are so unhappy now, what is going to be in a year? Good luck, See ya! Charles
  5. Trick, It is obvious to me that you are not satified with the JVC Nav. Please read below, you may find answer to couple of your problems. 1- There is no TTS for US version. See the Install US manual on JVCMoblie.com 2- You can set the guidance volume but also the background music. Page 50 3- You can choose the way the NAV will calculate the destination. BY DEFAULT, it will take Fastest and use highways whenever possible to avoid stop lights. You may try SHORTEST in your case. 4- Sorry to tell you that your driveway (Home) does not figure in any database. Put in your ad
  6. Hi Lou, I agree with you that why spend big money on a unit that has 1/2 features of portable units. On the positive side, simple things doesn't brake... or brake less I should say. I made some research here and there for the KW-NX7000. From what I can read, European version is slighly different than its little US brother. It appears that the Euro version has the gyro, speed sensor and TeleAtlas maps! I'm still scratching my head as the reasons why. The only good reason I can find is... weather. I don't know how these things (gyro) operate but if its the little things that
  7. LouGPS, I've read your post on Future Shop and here. From what I can see, the NAV is really important to you. Based on what you wrote, I think you've returned your unit for the wrong reasons because sales guys did not do his job properly. I went my self to Future Shop to see the unit. Well I was not too impressed with their knowledge to be polite. These guys are complete ignorants and just don't know their stuff. Without giving me right information, he went on the shelf to pick a unit and bring me at the cash. I said : Hey, wait a minute, I will not buy a 1100.00$ unit with all t
  8. Trick, I'm sorry for you to see your bad experience on this unit, at least on the NAV side. But I'm thinking there are some major differences with the US version and the UK. This is from your review from TT forum: "The sat nav is OK, although nowhere near as good as the Kenwood's Garmin nav. Once calibrated, it uses the speed pulse and an internal 2D gyro to determine position if it loses the satellite signal. (it took about 400 miles to calibrate on mine, but worked perfectly fine in carparks etc even when calibrating). The nav uses TeleAtlas maps." 1st - The US version uses
