  1. that is the way it is supposed to work, what the OP posted about, and i relied that I ran into as well, was that this was *not* working like it should

Perhaps the power isnt hooked up properly? I would imagine if the radio is losing all power when the key is turned off then the "demo mode" feature will reset. Make sure constant power is hooked up correctly.

I just installed one into a portable demo box here (plugged into the wall) and demo mode never goes away no matter how many times i power it down. im just assuming/hoping its because its losing all power similar to a dead battery in a car.

  2. A few things come to mind.

    1) Automotive electronics cannot be compared to others because your iPad doesn't spend 24 hours a day outside in below freezing and 100+ degree temperatures all while being bounced around by the vibrations on the highway. im sure that adds to the equation.

    2) it may also come down to the market for a particular item. there are millions of iphones out there while Pioneer nav systems probably only number in the tens of thousands. if pioneer were selling as many navs as apple is selling iphones the costs would definitely drop.

    3) there is the costs of the extra hardware like radio tuners, CD players, RCA outputs, etc. while cost might be minimal they are requirements that an iphone or ipad doesnt have.

    4) since a navigation headunit is much much larger and heavier than an iphone or ipad the transportation costs will be greater. shipping 1000 navigations from japan may take an entire container or more whereas shipping 1000 iphones may take few pallets.

    5) further, the costs of an iphone is subsidised by the money you pay for service from AT&T or Verizon. they can afford to "lose" money on the device if they are going to make substantially more from the serivce over the longrun. there is no source of recurring income for headunit manufactuers.

while i wish they didnt cost as much as they do i'm sure there are plenty of reasons for it. if Pioneer could sell an impressive nav for $499 and still make a prodit im sure they would.

  3. we use Steelmate parking sensors here at our shop. This kit comes with mercedes-style displays and works very well. http://www.steel-mate.com/product.php?pid=597482&lang=enus&cid=72279&product=Front_&_rear_PTS_with_automatic_radio__mute_function_and_two_slim_LED_displays

Rosen makes reverse sensors that integrate with their nav screen to show you on the screen how close you are to an obstcal.

For my own car though I would go with the Steelmate kit.

  4. I keep hearing that the new X series and Z series are WORST than the F series? I had a f90bt about a year ago and sold it when i sold my car and i loved it. Only problem i had was it didnt always reconize my voice for making a phone call. It was great at picking a source or album on my ipod by voice. I am in the process of looking for a x920bt or z120bt. So pioneer took steps back in comparison to the F series?

Overall the new X and Z units are MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the old F series. Hands down, no comparison. However, the F series, and the X910 had a different navigation interface that some people prefer over the new one. Inlcude me in this group. I have an X910 and use a Z120 a lot while at work and I like the navigation one the X better. But, when it comes to speed, reliability, features, etc...the new X and the Z take the cake.

  5. As far as my neighborhood is concerned, it simply does not exist in the map. I have tried to zoom in, but I still only get major streets.

This may not solve you problem, but just as RonS said, sometimes you do need to zoom in order to see the smaller streets, and may need to zoom in more to see those smaller streets' names.

However, since your neighborhood does not seem to be in the map data at all, no amount of zooming is going to change that. all you can do is report the missing streets to Tele Atlas. They are the company that provides the map data to Pioneer and many other navigation manufaturers. Garmin uses NAVTEQ which is the reason it shows up on the Garmin and not on the Pioneer. Not that NAVTEQ is necessarily better than Tele Atlas, but they both collect and distribute map data and NAVTEQ may have just gotten feedback on your neighborhood that Tele Atlas did not. http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php

Take a closer look at that website. You should check out the map on their website to see if perhaps your neighborhood is list in their most current data. if so, you do not need to report anything because they have already fixed the error. this will also LIKELY mean that the newest Pioneer update will have that data on there.

  6. We installed our first Z130 this week and while demoing the unit to the customer I came across a strange glitch with the VR for address input.

Our office is located in Arlington, Virginia. When you tell the VR to search in "Arlington" it will say "That address does not exist". Sometimes the unit will ask you to clarify the city so it will say "1) Arlington 2) Arrington 3) Farmington" and when you say "Number one" it will respond with "That address does not exist" again. You can type in the address manually and it has no problem but for some reason only "Arlington" comes back with that response in VR entry.

Can others give this a try to see if its a universal issue? State - Virginia, City - Arlington

You will notice that there are 2 "Arlington"s in Virginia if you type it in manually but this was also the case on the Z120 and did not cause any problems. After saying "Alrington" it should ask you to select the one you want.

Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

  7. More than likely a new Mic will not solve your bluetooth problems. Lots of people have bluetooth quality issues but some don't so its kind of strange. People have tried moving the mic, using a garmin or parrot mic but with no clear results. Unfortunately, it could be the bluetooth processor inside the unit that is the source of the problems.

On another note, here is a link to an iPad dash kit for the car.

  8. It could be any of the above. It could be a bad antenna. it could be that the antenna wire is pinched or crimped somewhere along the way. or it could be the X920 itself. you'll probably be able to rule out/confirm the first two once you install the new antenna. take your time and make sure the wire doesnt get pinched anywhere. if you still have problems it very well may be the unit itself.

  9. I have Pioneer F700 installed in my car. Bluetooth used to work with any of my phones, but then it stopped. When I try to pair with the phone is says no device found. My phone does not recognise it also. What should I do?

Go to your bluetooth setup screen and scroll all the way down to where it says "Bluetooth Software Update". Is the Version: field blank?

If so, that means the system has stopped recognizing the bluetooth software (not sure why, it could have gotten corrupted somehow).

But it is an easy fix. You need to download the latest bluetooth software from Pioneer's website and load it onto an SD card to then load it onto your nav. Follow this link then click on the "Firmware" link on the left side: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/GPS-Navigation/AVIC-F700BT

  10. Nevermind i didnt know you needed the iphone 4 for it to work. sorry for the post. Mods please delete.

This is worth keeping. I do not see anything in the manual about app mode. I would like to know the limitations if anyone else has any input. it seems odd that it would only work with the iPhone4. Especially since the software is all the same (assuming you have upgraded to 4.0+)

The manual only mentions that you need version 3.0 in order to use Pandora or Aha Radio.

  11. Hi !! I need some help.I up graded to 3.0 after my 90bt died with a black screen. But now I cant go in to settings so I can make changes to audio or anything els under setting. Please help?

Is the Settings button grayed out? Have you tried setting your parking brake?

  12. I had an avic n2 in my vehicle. this winter i got in a wreck and totalled my car. I just got a 2003 tiburon. it came with an aftermarket cd player. after my car got totalled i went and took out my avic. before i took it out i looked and made sure it still worked. it did so i proceeded to take it out. this morning i decided to put it into my tiburon. i got it all hooked up and when i went to try it, everything worked but no sound. The blue lights come on, the screen pops out, the screen lights up and is fully functional, only problem is there is no sound coming from speakers. i dont think there is a cd player problem because it seems to be working fine besides sound. something else i also noticed is on the clock display in upper right corner, time says **:**. There are * insead of numbers. the cd player i took out worked fine so i know its not the speakers. is it a wiring problem or a cd player problem?

I have no input for you on the sound problem but the clock might be reading **:** because the unit is not getting GPS signal. some units get the time directly from the GPS satellite so if the unit is not getting any GPS signal the clock is essentially blank. the Eclipse AVN726E was like this as well.

  13.

since the video is being outputted from DVD and Ipod, this makes me think that he has is plugged into the correct place, i wonder if the 930 just doesnt output any thing if a video source is not playing, this is how the previous units worked.

yeah I misunderstood. when he said "I have tested "Disc" with a DVD and "iPod", these both work fine." i thought he meant that the DVD and iPod sources do play on the front nav screen as they should.

Lumber, what source are you trying to display on the rear screen?

    Users manual says:

"When selecting "Rear View" in the map display, nothing is displayed"

"When playing back video files on the external storage device (USB, SD), the video image is not output"

  14. I have a 2008 GMC Acadia SLT2 with the RSE (flip-down). I would like to install an AVIC-X920BT navigation system. From what I have read, I may not be able to use the factory DVD system. Have any manufacturers created an adapter to allow me to continue to use the factory DVD?

You are able to use the X920 to play a DVD on the factory monitor. we do this all the time for our car dealers. you will need a GMRVD harness from PAC. http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=188&CategoryID=34

  15. What kind of car do you have?

If you happen to have a Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler vehicle you should make sure the Chrysler harness is installed correctly. In some vehicles (with amplified systems i believe) the harness actually has to be connected the opposite way. i am not a technician so i dont know the details but it has something to do with connecting the rear speakers to the front inputs and vice versa.

this problem is usually indicated by not having any bluetooth audio or navigation audio.

if you dont have a jeep/dodge/chrysler then maybe someone else has another idea

  16. post-21272-0-64198700-1298588507_thumb.jpg

I still don't think this information is accurate, and that the 930 may still have VR. If you look closely at the pics, the volume knob has labels for both VR and mute. One could imagine that VR is a quick press and mute is a long press, just like on the F90BT.

Its actually not a VR label. not sure what it is though. Perhaps the universal "Power" icon.

  17. I bought my F700-BT about 2 years ago with the XM module and the upgraded firmware already installed brand new from a audio store. After all the help from everyone on this site (THANKS!) I had to have it professionally installed because of special wiring components needed for the car to the radio. The system worked great for about 6 months. I started to notice that the XM radio would say "loading" or "no signal". Eventually it went out totally after almost 1 year. After speaking with the installer and talking with XM and Pioneer, I finally had to have the XM unit pulled and sent to Pioneer for testing. Of course they could not duplicate the issue so they returned it and the installer advised me to buy another one. Ho Hum so I did. Everything seemed to work great for about 10 months - then same thing - "no signal" or "loading" all the time.

To save some money (this xm issue is almost as expensive as purchasing the actual Pioneer unit now), we pulled out the dash and followed all the wires for connections, kinks, grounds, etc. Everything looked fine. We reset the XM unit and the Pioneer unit. Nothing. I had another antenna for the XM and pulled the old one from the back of the XM module and WHOA it worked! To ensure it was the antenna, we plugged the old one back in and nothing. So I thought my problem was solve - bad antenna until it went back to the same old "no signal" or "loading" about 2 days later....4 days later it went to "no signal" and now stays there yet the XM icon is active and the channel says "On the AIR".

I am beginning to think that maybe the F700-BT unit has a problem and has from Day 1. Maybe it is the software since the unit sometimes has the CD, SDCard, USB and XM greyed out after trying the xm even though they should be active. When this happens I reset the pioneer unit and they come back. Outside the xm,

I have never had any problems with the F700-BT until recently and I absolutely love the unit!

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I travel extensively and not having the XM is driving me nuts!

Where is the XM antenna mounted on your car? It really should be on the outside of the car. if it isnt already I would try doing that.

Sometimes its okay to have it inside the car on the dash but it is not optimal. but no matter what it should certainly never be under the dash.

  18. As far as I know you have to have the iPhone search for the X910, not the other way around.

To go bluetooth setthings, choose connection, choose add device, then click on the 3rd option that says "pair from the mobile phone".

your iphone should automatically update the bluetooth list with nearby bluetooth devices.

select PIONEER NAVI then enter the pin, 1111.

  19. I have been looking at both the AVIC-X920BT and soon to be released AVIC-X930BT. Would it be better to buy the X920BT now and upgrade the software when available or wait for the release of the X930BT? So an upgraded X920BT would have all the updated features + voice recognition while the X930BT would only have a volume knob/detachable face as a plus? Should be a no-brainer for a upgraded X920BT unless I am missing something, right? Anybody have some input or advice for me?

If it were me, I would buy the 920 with voice commands and update the software.
