  1. Those three channels are the 3 free preview channels you get when the unit is not activated.

First, verify to make sure you have the correct radio ID number. If the number is corrtect, take your vehicle outside where it has a clear view of the sky and let it sit, with the radio powered on, for about 15 mins.

if that does not work you need to have Xm re-send the activation signal. When you first activate your XM they request that you have your car outside and powered on for 15-20 mins until the unit is activated. if you did not do this the first time make sure you do it the 2nd time.

i dont know if you can re-send the signal yourself online or not. you may have to call XM to have them do this.

  2. The only thing I know for sure is that we are able to search for cities in the US and Canada by postal code.

The screen that allows you to type in the city name will also have numbers on the top that you can use for postal codes. in the US our zip codes are all numbers but I just went outside and test it for Canada and it works as well. (Canada uses letters and numbers like the UK)

I cannot say for sure if this will work for you but go to that screen and give it a try.

  3. what version firmware does your unit have? I just tested an X710BT here in the shop with firmware v. 3.020100 and it definitely has the all of the voice options. If yours does not have it then I would say something isnt right.

go to MENU, SETTINGS, SYSTEM SETTINGS and the icon in the upper left should say LANGUAGE. select that icon and you should see PROGRAM LANGUAGE and VOICE LANGUAGE. choose VOICE LANGUAGE and Samantha TTS should be one of the options.

as far as I know, every nav unit from Pioneer has the ability to change nav voices and gives you at least 1 TTS option. this is not something they would have changed in the new software.

  4. There is also a thread that mentions how certain characters or symbols in your contacts will confuse the bluetooth and will result in the phonebook not transferring.

Try to search for the thread so you can read through it but the main thing is to make sure that none of your contacts have anything other that letters and numbers in them.

Take out all periods, commas, ampersands, slashes, dashes, perenthesis...etc... from the names of your contacts.

If you have someone named Dr. Smith - change it to Dr Smith

If you have a contact named Bob & Jane - change it to Bob and Jane

If you have a contact named John (Allstate) - change it to John Allstate

Take out everything that is not a letter or a number.

Give that a try and see if it solves the problem. If not, do a search for the original thread.

  5. I have the same issue on my X910BT. The street names do not show in 3D unless I change the map scale to 500 or 300. But my question is: after changing the map scale to 500 or 300, and later on, turning the map off, then turning it on again, the scale is back at 1000 with no street names, making it necessary for me to lower the map scale to 500 or 300 again. This happens everytime - the map scale defaults back to 1000. Is there a way to "save" my map scale change?? By the way, I have an X710 BT in my other car and it does not have this "no street name/map scale" issue. It works fine all the time.

you want to go into navi settings and turn "SMART ZOOM" off. this will stop it from defaulting back to 1000ft

  6. The new Kenwood units show even a smaller rear view screen and do the split nav/rear view as well. The F series did allow full rear view but the Z does not, only nav/rear view.

The Z actually does allow for a full rear view while driving, however there seems to be a glitch with this feature (in my opinion)

If you hold down the MODE button for about 3 seconds it will pop up the visual settings (brightness, contrast, etc...) and there will also be a button in the lower right that says CAMERA. if you hit this button it will switch the screen to show you the rear camera view. BUT FOR SOME STRANGE REASON you cant get the BRIGHTNES, CONTRAST etc... settings to go away. so in the end you can only see a small sliver of the camera view. it seems like this was obviously intended to allow people to quickly turn on their rear view camera while driving but my feeling is that they made a mistake with the programming and unfortunately make it so you cant actually see it.

i know about the split map screen that shows 75% camera and 25% map screen so that usually does the trick for our customers but it would be great if this intended feature actually works.

can anyone else confirm that their Z reacts the same way? Are you able to get the visual settings to go away so you can see the rear camera after holding the MODE button for 3 seconds?

  7. The only thing I can say for sure is that you will be able to use the entertainment system. If your factory headunit was the DVD player for the rear screen the Z will be able to do that. You just have to make sure they are connected during the install.

as for the other two questions,I do not have an answer for those.

  8. Fortunately, I never had problems with my F900 VR so my input may not help you much. But, for what its worth, i find that the VR on the X works just as well as I would expect it to.

The biggest difference between the X and the Z is that on the Z, the VR is ready to listen immediately after you press the VR button. on the X there is a bit of a lag. I am only talking MAYBE a full second but its not as instantaneous as the Z.

The Z's VR seems faster but I would say they have about the same accuracy and success rate. perhaps the Z has a slight edge in accuracy but, in my experience, the X's VR does the job.

why are you getting rid of the Z?

  9. turning off the Key Beeps under NAVI SETTINGS - SOUND SETTINGS should turn off all the touch screen beeps as well as the steering wheel control beeps. however, when you do this, it will also turn off the "chime" you hear after pressing the voice command button. kind of stupid but thats the way it is.

what do you mean by "I already turned it off in the nav but it's still on for everything else." what is "everything else"?

  10. That is definitely the solution. Everytime you make changes to your ipod you need to let the unit update the "VR Catalog"

You can leave this on so it does it automatically, however, it is quite annoying because it does it EVERY TIME whether you need it or not. so most people just leave it off until they want to update the VR catalog. they let it catalog one time, then turn it back off until next time.

to turn it on and off:

go to MENU, SETTINGS, then AV SETTINGS. Choose "VR CATALOG MODE" and turn it "ON". Go back to your iPod screen and wait for the VR Catalog to complete (this may take a minute or two depending on how much music you have) After it has finished, go back into AV settings and turn the VR CATALOG MODE off. you can leave it off until the next time you add or remove songs from your ipod.

  11. For what it's worth our Pioneer rep said changes are just going to be software and both new units will probably ship in May (X920 and Z120).

So there won't be a faster processor in the new one?

That would definitely confirm the new software loaded onto the Z110 will be just as fast and make it identical to the Z120.

The Z110 already has the fastest processor Pioneer has ever put into a nav. i wouldnt see a reason to upgrade the processor at this point

also, just so everyone knows, the Pandora feature on the new navs will only work with an iPhone. When i first heard about it I assumed it would work with any smartphone with the Pandora app and send it via bluetooth. however, unless I am mistaken, it only works with the iPhone when the iPhone is plugged into the ipod adapter.
