  1. I've noticed the compass is bugged, even before the update. It seems when you were heading in a southward direction, the east and west were backwards. So If I was heading SW, the compass would show SE. I need to go back and look at it again.

  2. my screen used to freeze up and everything. I have a 8 gid sd card with music on it. Some posted that instead of placing all the files on a sd card, put the mp3's in to several folders then onto a sd card. I have not had any issues since doing that.

This workaround for music seems to be working well so far.

  3. What it sounds like it is trying to cache most of the MP3s into memory for some reason, and with less availible RAM after the patch, it starts having trouble.

If I understand correctly, instead of having all of the songs in a single folder, he split them by artist, and didn't have more than 80Mb in each folder.

If that is true, if I left the unit on Random->Card, will it still operate like how it was organized before? Or will I have to change folders?

I'll have to try this later when I get home.

  4. Ok I have a 06 trailblazer LT. I have installed an Avic F90BT with the XM reciver and a BOYO rear view camera which was $150...ok so the dealership is going to give me a trade in value on my truck with and without my avic system...HOW much should I be getting extra for my system?so what's a good price for them to give me to keep my system in rather than taking it out??? Thanks in advance!!!

Most cases, you won't get any extra for aftermarket parts. You are almost always better to go back to stock, and sell the parts separately.

  5. Well I finally found a flaw in the upgrade.

Things were going great until yesterday morning. I started the car and music started right away. Then the screen went black. The music continued and I could change source via the steering wheel, but no touch screen. I got to work and at the end of the day, it started up normally without a problem.

Then, this morning, the same thing happened. But this time after 10 minutes, the screen came back on, but without the top line of options. No back button or anything. The map and home buttons didn't work either. Again, I could change sources and stations.

Once I got back in the car at the end of the day, it started up fine again. Hopefully this isn't a recurring issue. :|

    same here

Ditto. I get the same results sometimes. Its random, and it could be 1 of 3 outcomes.

    • [*:28t4qv46]Runs normally
[*:28t4qv46]Starts up, goes back to splash, then to navigation menu. Touching where the back button is usually fixes it.
[*:28t4qv46]Blank screen, which then can evenutally lead to a radio screen with no title bar, and external buttons don't work.

  6. Oh, I have also noticed with the update that sometimes right after boot, the splash screen will flash onto the screen, then it goes to the navigation menu, and will be unresponsive for a short moment. Then after pushing a button or two, it will take me to the radio screen (being that where it was shut off at), but there is no header bar. But going back to main and forward to radio resolves it.

  7. Upgrade went flawlessly (well, minus me writing down the password wrong). Not a single error.

Display looks nice, and touch response is better. Only played with it a little, and was disappointed in the SD playback. It got so bogged down that it became unresponsive to any screen touches, queueing them up, and then performed them all at once when it was ready.

  8. Thank you. That's exactly the answer I was looking for! Its a shame that it only works for iPod, but I now know what to expect.

    Thanks again,

    Kevin

Glad you found out now. I wish I paid better attention to the marketing, because I was (and still am) really disappointed when I found out it didn't control my SD music.

  9. I definitely do see RDS info when tuned to an analog broadcast via the HD tuner. You do have to go to the Radio screen and look at it there (and hit the button that switches between different data streams, too)...

Cool, I'll have to try and pay more attention. But then again, knowing my situation, I don't think anyone by me broadcasts with RDS on anyways. Heck, there are barely any radio stations by me period. (let alone HD ones)

  10. Having said that, HD module does receive analog broadcasts and does RDS as well, so there's no real reason to use built-in tuner. Depending on where you live, though, MSN Direct might be useful.

Let me see if I get this straight. The AVIC doesn't support RDS (my guess is Pioneer didn't want to pay a lisencing fee for the system), right? But the GEX HD module does? Does it actually work with the AVIC? Because I don't think I've seen any RDS information on my screen. Afterall, it can't even save the station name in the presets...

Have you seen RDS information via the HD module?

  11. i seen free software online for radar detecting online lets you know about speed traps....etc, just like on the blackberry storm there is an app that does such, now could i download that and put it on the Sd card and load it onto the gps ? will it work, has anyone tried this?

how does the blackberry storm detect the radar? is it using IR? AFAIK our unit doesn't have IR so it won't work,

I think its just a database of fixed radar speed traps.

  12. Well, to me, a Software Engineer with a Masters in Software Engineering and 8 years experience under my belt,

Then, as a software engineer, you should be familiar with rules 22 and 23 of the unwritten rules of systems engineering.

*Systems Management Risk. The systems engineering management of a large project is very difficult in the start up phase. Requirements are late. Of course they are late but engineering should never use that as an excuse and fail to conduct parametric analysis around expected requirement limits. Staffing is under the planned level. Design engineering is yelling for firm requirements as if the system engineer knows what the requirements are but just won't tell. The result is that the Chief Systems Engineer is under fire and may be replaced by a new person who is given a new longer schedule and increased budget and perhaps reduced expectation of results. This typical half life of one year makes some people cautious.

    The Twenty Second Law:

Never go in with the first wave.

*More Risk. It is not clear that you can succeed if you are part of the second wave. Some projects are so difficult that an extension of the law is as follows:

    The Twenty Third Law:

Never go in with the second wave either.
