  1. After going through this forum topic and going through the entire update, I saw the need to modify these instructions. The instructions as written were mostly technically correct, but it is obvious from some of the posts that newbies were having trouble with some items.

The instructions are the same, but more detailed. Some minor errors were corrected as well (such as the bluetooth screens you will see when updating the bluetooth. The original says confirm the 2.50 version before it says hit the 'firmware' button, but you can't see the firmware version 2.50 UNTIL you hit the button....) I also added info like formatting SD cards in FAT32 default allocation size, as it does not mention the default should be used, and I informed users what a torrent file is, etc.

If you follow the below instructions exactly, this update will work perfectly.

Props to you guys SHORTFUSE THX Much

    Enjoy..

None of this was my hard work it for sure took a team.

    Download this file. Pioneer.Z110BT.Upgrade.Unlocker-ShortFuse.zip

    Pioneer.Z110BT.Upgrade.Unlocker-ShortFuse.zip (26.51K)

(Look for this link in the opening post to this forum)

Be sure to know the location you are saving downloaded files.

Now Download this file from pioneer. 1.001000.zip

    http://ds1.downloadt...re/1.001000.zip

Be sure to know the location you are saving downloaded files.

Now open up your c: drive and make a new folder called UPDATE. (Note, you can make an update folder anywhere you like, but for illustrative purposes we will put the folder on the c: drive. This folder is referred to as c:/update)

If you have not already done so, download the free version of winRAR. WinRAR is a program that will let you extract (decompress) ZIP and RAR files. Although the below zip files can be extracted with Windows or winzip, later in these steps you will need to extract actual RAR files, so just go get winRAR or another program that can extract RAR files.

Now using winRAR or a similar free application, extract (uncompress) the contents of both of the downloaded files into the folder c:/Update

You should now have one folder and three files now in the c:/update folder.

c:/update/AVICZ110 This has lots of files and folders in it.

    and

    c:/update/ Readme, EU090APL.VER, and RenewalIFLib.dll

(Note, the original instructions said there are two folders. My “shortfuse†RAR download did not extract a folder, just the three files. Yours may extract a folder holding the three files.)

Replace the file in the following location:

    Replace c:/update/AVICZ110/EU090APL.VER

with this file from the short fuse RAR download

    c:/update/EU090APL.VER

Replace the file in the following location:

c:/update/AVICZ110/APL/RenewalIFLib.dll Note: This file is in the APL folder!

with this file from the short fuse RAR download

    c:/update/RenewalIFLib.dll

Format SD (Right click sd card under my computer and format) format in FAT32 DEFAULT ALLOCATION SIZE!!!!!! The card needs to be 4gb or larger to complete all steps!

    Now Copy the folder

    c:/update/AVICZ110

to the root of the SD card.

Lets say your sd card is j: drive.

You will now have one folder on the j: drive.

j:/AVICZ110 (Plus all the contents of this folder.)

Now insert the SD to your Z110BT and it should start updating automatically.

The installation screen will show 100% updated for at least 30 seconds. DO NOT SHUT OFF POWER or do anything but WAIT.

It will eventually say the update is complete, and then restart on its own.

Now how to do the update to os version 2.0

You must download and install a torrent application before the torrent file below can be used. A torrent file is a very small file that simply points a torrent program (client) to a larger file being shared on the internet. You install a torrent program, like bitcomet, and then you download and double-click on the torrent file, and then bitcomet will go find the larger file on the net and start do download it.

Below are clients for both mac and windows. You can use any torrent client.

    BitComet. Google it.

Windows Utorrent client can be found here.http://www.utorrent....complete?os=win

Mac Utorrent client can be found here.http://www.utorrent....complete?os=mac

The update OS torrent file can be found here CNSD-110FM.rar (14.08K)

(Look for this link in the opening post to this forum)

If this file is no longer being shared (seeded) then you will need to search the internet or this forum for it.

Be sure to know the location you are saving downloaded files using your torrent client! Once you download it, consider leaving your torrent program running for a few weeks to seed this file for other users!

Once downloaded and extracted with winRAR you will have two folders that represent two separate SD cards. (You can do all this with one 4GB or larger sd card)

Once the torrent is downloaded you will have a folder CNSD-110FM wherever your torrent program saves downloaded files.

Open that folder CNSD-110FM you will see two more folders

    SD1

    and

    SD2

Open these folders and extract contents with winrar to

    c:/uploads/CNSD-110FM-SD1

    c:/uploads/CNSD-110FM-SD2

(Note, you can extract the RAR folders to any directory you want. We’re just using c:/uploads for illustrative purposes.)

BIGGER NOTE: You do not have to extract all four of the RAR files in the SD1 folder! All four of these files comprise one RAR file. So just double click on the first one and extract it. When it is done, you are done with all four of those.)

    Time for another FAT32 format

Format your SD card in fat32 default allocation size- right click on the sd card and select format under my computer.

Copy the CONTENT of the folder c:/update/CNSD-110FM-SD1 and put it on the root of the SD drive. Do NOT copy the FOLDER and put it on the drive, just the contents of the folder.

So lets say sd drive is j: drive it really could be any letter e: f: g: j: .. I don't know the driver letter for your SD card. ( You do have a SD card reader RIGHT?)

When you are done you will have two folders and one file on j: drive and they will be:

j:Firmware (a folder) plus all the content of the folder

j:Update (a folder) plus all the content of the folder

    j:CARDINFO.cif (a file)

Now take the sd card and put it in the z110bt

This will start the upgrade and it will ask for serial.. just type ALL LETTERS until you can type no more.. (no numbers!) letters only! Then hit (ok). This update takes about 35-40 min. It will say 30 minutes, but will likely take a bit longer. The unit will reboot when complete.

Keep the SD card in the unit! After OS install version 2.0 has been installed, the bluetooth needs to be updated two times.

    a) press the front panel (Home button) to display top menu.

    B) touch (System… lower right corner)

    c) touch (bluetooth settings)

    d) scroll to bottom of list and touch (firmware update)

    e) confirm bluetooth version is 2.50

    f) touch (firmware update)

    g) after finish (takes maybe 5-6 min) hit (ok) confirm 3.10 version is now on unit under bluetooth setting page

    h) Now eject the sd card.

Do the below with a second SD card or format the existing sd card.

Copy the CONTENT of c:/update/CNSD-110FM-SD2 folder onto the root of the new or cleanly formatted sd card and insert the card into the z110bt (now a Z120bt!).

    a) press (Home button) to display top menu.

    b)touch (System… lower right corner)

    c) touch (bluetooth settings)

    d) scroll to bottom of list and touch (firmware update)

    e) confirm bluetooth version is 3.10

    f) touch (firmware update)

    g) after finish (takes maybe 5-6 min) hit (ok) confirm 3.11 version is now on unit under bluetooth setting page

    h) Now eject the sd card.

    That's it.

  2. Lay off the US hatred

Are you adults? Someone criticizes something IN the USA, not the USA mind you, but something in it..... and you cry literally like babies? Wah!

Oh, no.... this country is just PERFECT in all ways, right. Some of us would like to improve some things that could be better here while others pout wrapped in the red white and blue.

So lock this thread then, and go back to your tea party nonsense, but remember in the end you all couldn't handle some criticism.

If you don't want to hear some negative things, then perhaps you shouldn't run or even read a forum.

  3. Off topic? Are you kidding?

Here is your topic, is the PIONEER AVIC-Z110 advertising clearly lists features that it does not have OR it lists features that do not work because PIONEER does not have the ABILITY or DESIRE to make it work, but they do have the desire to continue to illegally advertise their product in that manner. And somehow the guys at Pioneer USA have nothing to do with it, huh?

    Right....

  4. Ha! It's just very common for big companies to advertise something and then not deliver, and that's a US thing.

As for the Japanese, their whole culture thrives upon quality and honesty. You do not embarrass yourself or your company over there. I do not agree that the Pioneer US team does what Japan tells them to. I'd like to know more about that. I think the Japanese people at Pioneer are being fed pure BS by their US counterparts.

Typically, it is US companies that operate like this. I give you Microsoft, and any cable company..... $30 for cable TV that turns into $70 a month after fees. How about AT&T's massive network problems? Sure, let's sell 10 million iphones when our network can only handle 8 million..... and need I mention the US banking industry?

Others give us BMW, Nintendo, and Sony.

I suggest a book, from an MSNBC guy no less, called "Gotcha Capitalism". The entire US retail system is now set up as a gigantic false-advertising monster. Best book ever written.

Toyota, it seems, has found itself with too much of a US presence. I don't think it a coincidence that Toyota's problems began when their presence in the US was greatly expanded.

So it is not anti-USA, it is anti-USA-company and company executives.

  5. Pioneer has a huge building in this country, in California, filled to the brim with USA trained executive types that do all the actual USA advertising of their product.

And, yes, they will definitely all point the finger at one another, and it is "screw you, customer" in the end..... absolute typical attitude for the mighty United States.

This is the reason it is so amusing to see people who find Windows exploits post them to the internet, forcing Microsoft to scramble. It forces them to actually fix their product instead of ignoring customers. Wish someone could do that for every US product.

  6. Howdy.

My Z110 and x910 now have working MSN, but there are no movie times or local events listed for my area.... it says "data not available" in Greensboro, NC. According to MSN Direct's web site, ALL MSN data should be available for this area.

I called them, and they INSISTED that if the movie and local data is not being shown, Pioneer needs to update their firmware as the newer Pioneer units should show this info.

Furthermore, MSN is now broadcasting flight times and doppler radar images as well. A firmware update from Pioneer is needed to see this information.

Anyone have any info on this? I see nothing on the Pioneer support site.

    Thx.

  7.

    MSN tuner, discontinued.

X will have less features navis wise, display wise IE POints of interest, it will NOT be the same software.

With all due respect, MSN Direct is all over the manuals listed here, clearly shown in the menus, and the Z hardware is not supposed to change.... leaving an MSN tuner jack on the back.

Both the Z and X share the same manual here, too, and same menu screens pictured throughout. How do you know the software will be different?

  8. From what other members have said, the navigation engine in the X920 will be changed from previous X versions to the same one used in in the new Z series products.

Therefore, both the Z120 and the X920 will be running the exact same software for the first time.

This means you will get a larger screen and more features like dual-zone video in the Z/more inputs/faster processor?, with the X920 having no advantage at all over the Z other than a built in MSN tuner.

Somebody correct me if I got any of that wrong.

  9. Good insight! That says a lot. And it's depressing.

Hey, perhaps a Pioneer guy can make an account here and not fully let on who he/she is. Secret-Pioneer-guy. Or how about "LongBeachFlyOnTheWall"? Hmmm. Maybe one of you is already here.

I agree with you. Sounds about right. I would ask that someone from Pioneer reading this forum take his own initiative to contact Japan. What, are you afraid of getting in trouble? Please. Get over it and become a big boy. Or at least anonymously post secret contact emails for Japan execs. We'll take over from there.

Your explanation also explains the Eco routing. In Japan, with resources so tight and they way society is over there, this sounds like something they would use.

But, they fellows in Japan do have the ability to improve their product. I've said this before.... anyone ever see the workings of the very first Wii? It was stunning how well that machine was put together, with intuitive programming and loads of features....and that's on version 1.0! Of course, the Wii is very popular over there, so perhaps the guys at Nintendo actually use their own product.

This might be attributed to screw ups and laziness by the people at USA -Pioneer. It is the American mindset that cuts corners, and covers up defects. Japan might be asking for input, and the "Long Beach" guys say "Everything is fine!" And Eco Routing sounds like an idea a dumb US executive would come up with and an even dumber one would roll with.

    Sigh.

My wife's 2nd Z110 arrives today. My excitement level is near zero. But I do like the themes I've seen on here for the X910 going in my dash!

  10. I hear ya. But just because they are big, doesn't mean they have to have closed minds or not go on the record. Delta airlines recently undertook a multi-million dollar project to install internet in all of their aircraft. This project included top guys at Delta interacting and taking advice from their customers via on-line blogs and chats.

No company is too big to listen to their customers. But some are so big they choose not to......

I agree that Pioneer is thus far the best, which is why I own two. But some of the decisions.... ugh!

  11. If Pioneer knows of this site, and doesn't have their own people posting, then I can literally see the Pioneer attitude. It's GFY. This is the same exact attitude that got Microsoft into trouble.

I have attempted to call Pioneer.... I do know how. The people I spoke to are obviously in an overseas call center. You get a canned response, and that's it. Nothing says "We don't care" like hiring a far away call center.

What's more than Pioneer people not knowing their products, the people at Pioneer obviously don't even use their own products. These sales guys must not drive to their customer sites, or they would know in two seconds that their "flagship" nav can't find the next McDonald's on their route. Did you see these two guys at CES? On and on for 10 minutes about the new x920 ipod interface, a minute or two about "Eco Routing" (A feature that not one customer will ever use, period), and oh, a lightning fast disclaimer mentioning that there's a nav system in there, too. Brilliant! And news up, the ipod isn't even your product, Pioneer. BTW, I just saw the youtube video of their senior marketing rep. 4:51 total time, and four seconds was devoted to the navigation portion. Guess what got more than three minutes of that.... an Apple product.

I have just scoured the internet for the contact info for the two sales promoters at CES. None to be found.

I own two businesses. I am constantly reminded by my customers of how our company goes out of its way to listen to them. The last thing I would have is contempt for what the customer is telling me.

As for dawgbone, yes, the new Pioneer systems do have some fixes, but they could use 100 more. Consumer nav technology is now nearing a decade of age and it is unacceptable to have basic functions missing from any unit made by a major manufacturer.

Oh, Pioneer is saying "Go build a better one, then?" Someone is, Pioneer, you better watch out. The first horse to the line with a high-res 7" screen and top of the line nav and my two current Pioneer nav's, as well as all future navs, are bye-bye Pioneer.

Okay, any Pioneer employee reading this? We don't bite. Logon and have a chat.

  12. I can't imagine any of their customer base has ever told them they are on the right track. As for their dealers giving them feedback, their own dealers seem to know nothing about these units.

But I do agree they don't listen to us. I don't think they know 411 exists because the members here have some great and laughingly simple suggestions that if implemented, would make ALL of their customer base happy. It would shock me even more if Pioneer knew of this site, but still didn't entertain our requests to make these units better.

My wife is one who uses their navigation. She only uses the POI search function when traveling and she too immediately noticed how her Z3, and then Z110, searched not the road in front of her for a POI, but anywhere in the state. I would say she's a typical customer. She knows what doesn't work, but she has no interest in contacting a forum or Pioneer over it.

In fact, she bought a Z110 in January. She heard me mention that the X910 had a better navigation engine, and she had me order her a new one. I found a buyer right away for her two-weeks-old Z110, and shipped it off. When I installed the X910, she didn't expect how much smaller the screen was, and the slower button response, and now wants her Z back, so I ordered her a new Z110 AGAIN. (I would have waited to sell the old one, but the buyer was paying top dollar...)

She asked "Why doesn't the 'good one' look for stuff along a route or show details like the little one does?"

    Good question.

  13. All of the navigation manufacturer's engineers have very little vision, and ZERO knowledge of what their customers want. Eco routing. That's what they come up with.

But, Pioneer's stuff is to the point where they're close to having a great product. The new high-res displays are great. If those &%$#%^ guys had just put some more useful features into the navigation like searching for POI along a route, it really would be a flagship product.

The people at this forum could give Pioneer 100 great and simple things to roll out with the next update, but apparently Pioneer knows what's best and has no desire to listen. Instead, they're going the route of the cell phone manufacturers. Keep jamming useless features into it and never mind the fact that the phone call quality sucks.

    Frustrating is right.

PS. My new X910 is a nice little unit! Some drawbacks, but it certainly beats the pants off the Z110 navigation wise. It will work nicely until I can drive up to Crutchfield and see JVC's and Kenwood's new navs in a couple months.

  14. I have an upgrade problem.

I have a 40GB Toshiba HD that has worked for a year with the Z3 2008 files.

When I do a straight upgrade using the Z3 2009 image, everything is fine. When I write the image, and then expand the MSV partition to include the extra 10 gig of unallocated space, the unit will not work. It barely boots, and will only let me into the a/v screens.

Anyone know how to properly expand the MSV partition?

I was using EASEUS partition tool, I deleted both the user and msv partitions after saving the folders inside, re-made the partitions making the msv bigger, and copying the files back in.

    Thanks.

  15. Forget the entire Pioneer series from the Z110 and the X920 on, but there is an improvement over the Z2.

The x910 uses the newer ipod a/v interface (same as the Z110) and has a better navigation system.

I don't see Pioneer improving their navigation system for years, if ever, so you might as well pick up an x910 for the mean time.

The x910 appears to be an upgrade as far as the navigation goes. It uses a different navigation engine than the Z1,Z2, Z3, and features things like the ability to search for POI along a route. The ipod interface is also lightning fast.

My Z3 goes on eBay today....

  16. Also, thanks for the info.

I've decided to buy the X910 and a good media player, as I read the X910 makes you burn certain video files to DVD to play them, and I'd really like to never burn a DVD again, ever. Plus, I'd like NAV and video at the same time. This will allow me to stick with Pioneer, too. Yay!

Time to put the Z3 up on eBay.

I guess this means my wife's brand spank me new Z110 is going up on eBay, too. Wish I had more free time to do homework before I bought the unit.

Thanks to all who posted help.

  17. I should have been clearer. My mind is moving faster than my typing....

I read a couple blurbs on this forum that Pioneer, or another company, made a mistake in releasing the dual X920/Z120 manual, and this one wasn't the *official* manual.... and might not accurately reflect what was really going on in the unit/s. I should have been clearer.

I went to Pioneer hoping they would have the *official* X920 manual listed there right on the X920 page as this unit is out, or nearly out, but not so.....

    So my bad.

  18. VBLUE42, just to confirm.... I'm about to dive into the X mods on the forum, but that will take me hours. I have a couple quick questions:

I can't seem to find my way to a manual for the X920.

    1. The X910 is the last unit made that supports modification, and the new Z110, Z120, and X920 run the same crappy nav software, right? I would confirm myself on the 920 but can't find the user manual @ pioneer com.

    2. Also, if the F910 has dual zone video, is there no hack for the x910 to do the same if they are the same unit? Sounds like software.

That's not a big deal, as I can run a media player if needed.

Basically, I'm about to buy a X910 unit unless the new X920 has the search POI along route function. Otherwise, X910 it is.

Thanks all for those who posted answers for me.

  19. Am I to understand that people have programmed their own updates for the 910 available to us on the internet?

AND the x series has a totally different navigation engine? I did not know that.

So in other words, find a used x910 as the new x920 uses the same crappy nav as the Z? Glad you told me that, or I might have purchased the 920.

I think this puts the nail in the coffin on Pioneer if I want a new unit out of the box. It looks as if they will never update the Z nav software.

MikeinNJ Kudos on that "learning" function. After literally 100 trips through West Virginia, the unit has yet to learn I take the Route 19 shortcut between I79 and I77. It also randomly picks between two highway exits for my house, even though I've taken the same one 1,000 times. There is no learning function.

Does anyone at Pioneer USA read this forum?
