my unit is a D1... does this make a difference?

im new to this forum and i would like to know if you guys could help me out ... i just had my d1 installed but the green wire (it says brake on it) is not connected to anything. my question is: my navi wont allow me to search by address poi etc.. most of my destination options are grayed out.. is this because the brake wire isnt hooked up??? or could this be something else?? TIA
