  1. I updated my f700 to 4 hybrid a couple months ago using eknkrypt3d's 4.01 zip and some newer maps. Everything seemed to be great until I went on a trip for thanksgiving and I noticed two things I hadn't tried since the update.

    1. If I hit the "video" tab with the Ipod attached, I get a reboot every time. would really like to be able to play ipod video again.

    2. Voice control of the ipod no longer works. I have updated the vr catalog and still doesn't work like before the update.

    anyone else getting this? any help would be appreciated.

  2. For all who wonder why this isn't quite 2GB... The way which this was fit onto one memory card (under 2GB) is that a the POIs bundled are only applicable to the East Coast.

    -Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia. All of the maps are there, so as-is, it should work without a problem.

    There is a newer set of maps floating around (at least, they appear newer based on the file names). Ironically, the file sizes are smaller. I think they've compressed the POIs a bit better. The maps are contained within a file circulating called "iGO US Canada Navteq 2011 Q4 (2012).rar".

    To replace the maps in this file with the updated ones, simply find your "dem", "map", and "poi" folders in APL2/iGo/content - and replace the contents with the ones from "iGo US Canada Navteq 2011 Q4 (2012).rar"

    When all is said and done, you should end up with every state, all POIs, and a 1.4GB total SD card footprint. This works so far, so good for me! I've successfully updated my F90BT to 4.001 using enkrypt3d's package - while using the maps from the file above. The unit boots up VERY quickly, and the interface is much improved. It's very fast.

    I was going to dump the unit for a newer model, but I think I'm going to ride it out now.

    Whatever you do... Do NOT extract and use these files if you were on a Macintosh computer as I was. When copying files, the Mac creates a bunch of ._ files, and this causes the following error at bootup:

    fatal error: initialization error:Loadlanguage failed.

    If you do the extraction and file manipulation on a Windows PC (or likely, anything but Mac OS X), you'll be fine. The unit apparently doesn't like all of those extra files.

    Been a long time. My 700 is still running great with x3. Started poking around here again and thinking of putting the above mentioned 4.01 on. For whatever reason, I have not been able to successfully dl the map file that SuperH mentions. My question:

    Since encrypt3d's package includes the maps but not the pois that I need (living in the midwest), can I just use the pois I currently have with the new 4.01 maps? I don't use them a lot so my old ones would be fine if they will work but it would suck to have none. Thanks

  3. i do have a couple downloaded. i looked through some of the code but it has been quite a while since i messed with this. I had one at one time that had mod descriptions commented out in the code (which was very helpful) but I cant remember whose data.zip it was. anyway i just want to do the linear compass and not all of the rest. (just add it to my nav mute button which works great). i'll keep looking.

  4. if you ground the parking brake wire and dont plan on moving u r good. i believe the problem arises when the unit realizes that the wire is grounded (parking brake on) and the unit is moving (faster than 10 mph i think). So u need to ground the right pin to bypass this problem. the mute wire is used because most ppl dont use it for anything else. it really has nothing to do with mute.

    or instead of grounding the bypass pin, you can mod the unit to not have a problem until you are doing 256 with the parking brake on. but that is the software bypass

    anyone please correct me if i am wrong on this

  5. Can someone point me in the right direction? (funny, I know)

    I wanted to change the map compass to the linear compass on f700 with 3.0. I have searched and read but there are so many different things to so with the compass. I am not looking to make it a button or anything. just switch the dial compass to the cool linear one.

    I have had success adding a working mute button to the map screen so i can do the basics, i just need some guidance as to only changing the compass. thank you.

  6. thanks to all of the great contributions to this forum, i have been running 3.0 (x series image) on my f700 with the nav voice mute button. I accomplished this without problems and all has been running smoothly. Now that the official update is out and being used, i am considering buying and installing it. So i was wondering if anyone had done this and exactly how you went about it and how it worked out. would there be any problem going from the x series image to the official f series 3.0 if i just put in the SD and fired it up or will it think it is already updated and stop. thanks again.

  7. Thanks for the help, i guess i will have to adapt.

    the info screen will give you a list of all poi's in the area correct?

    i have mine set to only show gas stations and food on the map and it would be nice to tap the icon and find out what the place is.

    I am kind of amazed that the avic is not capable of this. Even my 8 year old pocket PC with the compact flash GPS plugged into the top could do this (destinator software) but the avic sure looks a lot better :)

  8. How do I get information on the POIs that are on the map? I can not find this in the manual.

    Like when you are driving down the road you see a knife and fork on the screen. Even with my old Omnitech GPS, you touch the poi icon and it will tell you the info such as McDonald's and the address, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

  9. From the manual:

    Smart Zoom

    Enables the navigation system to zoom in

    automatically when you approach a guidance

    point and zoom out after you pass through it.

    You can setup the behavior while “Smart

    Zoom†is activated.

    When no route is set, the navigation system

    will simply zoom in or out depending on

    your speed.

    My F700 refuses to do this. I have tried 2d and 3d, i have tried all kinds of limits in the smart zoom settings. No matter what my speed the zoom level just stays the same (unless i have a route set). Is this working as described in the manual for anyone? My old gps with destinator software zoomed based on speed and it worked great. i would like the secret to getting this to work as described. thanks

  10. i changed the values in the pioneer.ini in the project_config folder. is this any different from the sys.txt change? I used:

    3dcarsizemin=3000

    3dcarsizemax=5000

    and the arrow is just how i want it (except for color).

    changing the sys.txt would be the easier of the two but i wonder what priority the unit reads this in.

  11. thank you for your help BorisM, unfortunately i am not getting very far.

    my sys.txt does not have the [model] heading. should i add it in or put the entries

    car="becker_car_gps.mdl"

    car_ghost="becker_car_ghost.mdl"

    under the [3d_config] (or some other) heading?

  12. thanks, i guess i will use the avic to view them.

    in 2.0 i managed to change my red arrow to gray by renaming the gray one to car.mdl since i am sure there is an easier way, do you know if i edit the [model] entry in the color3d.ini in each scheme will this work or do i also need to edit another .ini

    [model]

    car="car.mdl"

    car_ghost="car_grey.mdl"

    thanks again i am just learing.

  13. don't know if this has been brought up yet but in the gfx folder of the x910's data.zip there are some new .mdl files that aren't in the f one:

    car_ghost.mdl

    car_blaupunkt.mdl

    becker_car_gps.mdl

    becker_car_ghost.mdl

    i dont have any 3d software to see what these models look like but might try them out when i get home. hopefully one is better than the spaceship from the f series.

  14. my suggestion (for what its worth) would be to take the wince files from the PLT forlder of your original back up.

    boot into service menu

    update ce with these files on sd

    choose format option

    boot into testmode (with old testmode)

    copy your entire backup of my flash disk to my flash disk

    reset.

    if this works (haven't personally tried downgrading ce) you should be back to your original

    sorry if this is no help

    i dont think you have the right files for a 3.0 upgrade

  15. for anyone who cares i went ahead and bought this and it works great. Because of the way it is pinned out, you have to switch the red and yellow (video) rca cables that you plug in to the adapter. This is a handy little thing to keep in the glove box for a quick plug in.

  16. i did a search but mostly found people with EU version asking why they dont have VR.

    so i no longer get the voice command screen when i push in the knob.

    all i had done was change the 3d_max_tiltlevel in pioneer.ini and renamed car_grey.mdl to car.mdl and vice versa (silver arrow)

    anyway i did back up my data.zip so i just reverted back to the original and still no voice command when i push in the knob. i have tried waiting a while after startup and i have reset the unit but no luck bringing it back.

    does anyone know how i can get this work again (well work is a kind word :) but at least get the prompt to come up)

    F700, VR did originally function.
