  1. Any suggestions where to get a standard relay or is there another name for it?

everywhere, if they sell car parts, they damn should have some kinds of relays.

I went to autozone and advance auto this morning and they didn't have a four pronged relay with the numbers 85,86,87, and 30 on it. Would napa or radio shack have it and what do i ask for?

probably because standard relay's (SPDT) have five "prongs" (or terminals) 85, 86, 87a, 87, and 30 (you just dont connect anything to 87a)
  2. ^ a couple of weeks ago, I got an email from corporate, apparently all of our stores had to ship all of our app radio's back to pioneer because of a recall in the software.

the glitch had something to do with system stability when using back up camera's

must have been a pretty big issue instead of manually updating them in the field like we had to with the 2.0 update on the F-series to warrant shipping thousands of these bastards around.

as for people who have already bought them, they are supposed to grab the update from pioneers website, are you sure you have the latest version (i bet you do, pioneer isnt know for fixing all of the problems with any of their updates) i would test to make sure the reverse wire read like it should, other than that there is not much that you can do, the balls in their court.

  3. Can a micro bypass be used as an alternate solution?

    http://www.ebay.ca/i...=item231bc681b4

it should work as the units are bypassed the same way, BUT there is no way to adjust the time of each action, so its hard to say, also it may work now but then pioneer might change something in the firmware that might need a slightly different timing and then it might not work. or it might just not work at all.

could always try it and see.

  4. Because I messed up one wire?

for the record, car are not built like they used to be, messing up on a single wire could cause thousands of dollars in computer modules or serious injury from exploding parts in the car.

as far as lining my pockets,I'm sorry that I have a set of skills that i used to provide my life style. a lot of training, experience and investment in tools went in to this, its no accident. i also know my limits and would prefer to pay a proper specialist when the need arises.

  5. AMDhunter:

if your brake light in your cluster is flashing, you are not following directions!

the whole point of a bypass, is so that you dont have to have the pioneers brake wire connected to the cars parking brake/ handbrake, therefore so you dont have to set the parking brake to watch videos

if your cluster light is flashing, you must some how still have something connected to the cars handbrake wire, unhook everything and revisit all of the instructions and diagrams.

and yes, you can just use a simple switch if you are not capable of wiring and programming a simple bypass or paying somebody to do it for you.

this will be the only help i give on this, use a simple two wire switch, one of the wires from the switch needs to be grounded, the other wire of the switch need to be connected to the pioneer's parking brake wire (light green) that is it, nothing should be connected to any of the cars brake wires or anything else! if you get a three wire switch or more, figure it out yourself and follow the directions.

for the switch bypass to work, you will need to start with it off, then switch it on, then switch it off, then switch it back on and leave it. then just sit back and enjoy the smell of your own failure, and know that life will not be any easier going forward, so get used to failing and quitting everything now so it stings less later on in life.

  6. Yes, some of the very first revisions on the module didn't support the bonus features. Anything you buy or come across now will have it regardless of whether or not it has the - in the part number. Especially since that document has a date of 4-08-08.
so then you do admit that there are some units out there that dont support the "bonus features" ok because for a minute there i though you where saying that they all did support it.

forgive me for only telling people exactly what your company propagated to me!

I mean I only work for PAC.... What would I know?
    two thoughts on this,

first, not every person that works for any company has a clue what the hell is going on there! for example, i have talked to some really intelligent people from your own company, I have also talked to some real idiots whose only tech support ability is to read word for word the manual that i had sitting in front of me (which by the way twice ive had somebody read off to me that exact line and tell me they couldn't offer any help). look at pioneers tech support, they are all over the place, some dont even know anything about what you are calling about, others admit to it being a very common problem and can tell you the workaround. how the hell am i supposed to know which end of the spectrum you fall into?

second, maybe if your so damn smart at your job, you should change all of the "incorrect information" your company just throws in to its packaging. or at a bare minimum, make sure at least the damn people who answer the freakin phones how all of their products work, or at least give them up to date material.

better yet brosophina, why dont you just pump the brakes a bit with the attitude.

  7. ^clearly an apple hater.

luckly for me, I have owned enough of their products to like or dislike any of them i would like, however I'm the first to tell people to get an ipod when they complain about the limitations of flash memory

The Apple vs. the World argument is not the problem. While I appreciate your comment, I reject your logic completely. At least for the most part.
I never made a comment about apple being against the world, so i can now see how you may be having trouble keeping up with logic...

Do I believe that Pioneer should try to update every device they make so current technology jives with their product? No.
well at least your not completely irrational.

Do I believe that any company should try and support technology (that they market and claim their product support) within the first years of their product hitting the market? Yup. All day, any day.
and it does work exactly as it was designed, again apple changed the rules after it was made, its one thing for a device to look at, show, and play the media that is stored on it, (which it does) now you expect it to be able to look at media on a device that is not even on that device like it is the exact same thing.

If Pioneer sells a product claiming that it connects to another product (hell, there is even the Apple logo on the box) then it should be liable and offer support, or a work around for it.
interesting, it never says anywhere that it support ever single iphone feature, it just says that it works with the ipod (which again, it does just fine)

But heaven forbid anyone ever take any liability. I wouldn't expect my HU to even connect to anything manufactured after my HU was made. Problem is that Pioneer doesn't say that, and still market that it does.
again I dont see anywhere in you post where anything that worked when pioneer designed it, only a new feature that was added afterwards, but as you clearly said, when switching icloud off and back to the way it was when the unit was designed, it works great. so they really have nothing to be liable for.
  8. format this, format that, isnt that what we talked about the other day, specifically about how apple was known for all of their software issues, and their products were known for all of their glitches and bugs... oh wait, sorry, i forgot we where talking about that APPLE, and software is what they do. there is a reason that all of their stuff cost three times as much as everything else, because they just work. i have seen extremely few ipod that have failed that looked like they where actually taken care of like a sensitive piece of electronic equipment, instead they all look like an IED blew up the car it was in or it was tossed out the window of the general lee as it was flying over a moving train...

  9. agreed, restoring an ipod more than once is usually a waste of time. its as simple as its going to be one of five problem

    1.software problem on the ipod

    2.hardware problem on the ipod

    3.the connection cable

    4.software problem on the AVIC

or 5. a hardware problem on the AVIC

    now identify, isolate and eliminate

you have now proved multiple times that it is not a software problem on the ipod

    X1

you have tried a different cable so you know that's not it

    X3

you where told days ago to swap out the ipod to rule out (or more likely confirm) that the problem is with ipod itself could be many internal issues with the ipod almost all needing the ipod to be replaced

    ?2

so now you can choose to rule out #4 and #5 by either replacing all of the software on the AVIC or by trying a different radio or easier yet, going to a store with your ipod and testing it on some displays, this will be a win win, because you will either confirm that your problem is with your ipod or you will confirm that your avic is the problem and then you will be able to replace it right there, i would also recommend trying a store that sells both nav systems and ipods

also not to get off on a rant here, but if you still cant find one of the 300,000,000 ipods that have been built to borrow for some testing, you either have the worst group of friends ever, or you are that friend that everybody has that just doesn't respect everybody elses shit and any time they do let you borrow stuff it comes back all jacked up.

this issue should have been solved in a day or two, not dragged out for three weeks.maybe its just me or the fact that every hour i waste trying to fix my own problems is just another fist full of cash im pissing away by not working on a paying job.

Regardless, all of the possible outcomes are now contained in this thread. Good luck!

  10. The funny thing (and the reason I don't feel taking it apart will help anything) is that my small 8gb USB drive connects every single time.

if a flash memory drive works every time with out fail, then you problem is not an internal wiring issue, its either a problem with the ipod, the software on the avic, or a compatibility problem between the two softwares.
