I've downloaded the latest NavTeq maps for US/Can. I have a few questions about installing to my F700. -I see that the new map folder contains fbl, fda, fsp, and hnr files. But, in the AVIC map folder, there are only fbl files. So, should I only copy over the fbl files? -No license file was included with any of the NavTeq maps I found. Can I use the one already on the AVIC, or is there a generic license file for non-Pioneer-supplied maps, or perhaps a library of multiple license files somewhere? (FYI, I do have the modified EZRider file.) -I have heard the TeleAtlas POI's are superior to

Has anybody used European FW on their US model successfully? I see that the Pioneer EU site has newer FW updates for the F/X series, one even includes a WinCE update. (3.021 with WinCE 6.228, and 4.001. ) I was wondering if it would adversely affect the tuner functionality (AM, FM, HD, and XM), as they use different freqs in Europe, and do not use HD Radio or XM at all. Or, if there might be any other lost or incorrect functionality?

UPDATE: Thinking that the AVIC assigned folder numbers based on created and/or modified dates, I used a file/folder properties utility to change all of the folders' created/modified dates to be the same. I assumed that the AVIC would then look to alphabetical data to order the folders. No such luck. So, to repeat my original question: Does anybody know how the AVIC assigns numbers to the folders on the SD Card? The top level is #1. I can understand that. But, the rest seem to have no rhyme or reason, now that all of the folder created/modified dates are identical. Could there be a

I don't know what that is. But, glad it worked!

When I had this problem, it wasn't the iPod cable. The problem was actually the multi-connector with the RCA's that the iPod cable plugged into. One of the pins in that connector wasn't seated fully. I forget which one. But, I had posted about it here at the time. Also, a number of others had the same thing happen to them.

I thought I made it pretty clear that I used the high-level signal so I wouldn't have to run any wires. I just used the existing wiring that originally went to the Monsoon amp. Obviously, I would have run line-level, if I was going to run wire. And now, it looks like I will be doing that anyway.

Unfortunately, it appears that Fujitsu has dropped the Eclipse brand from Europe and North America. That's the word on the street. Just look at their websites for those regions. The last entries are from 2009. The Japanese site is relatively up to date, though. So, it seems they're still rocking Japan. (My brother-in-law has a Japanese Eclipse AVN in his Toyota Vitz. Thank god. Or, I'd never be able to find shit there.) I wouldn't mind one of those flash disk AVN units. Okay. I ran a couple of temporary RCA cables from the HU to the amp, and the hiss is greatly reduced. I also notice that the overall level is lower. So, I lowered the gains on the LOC to match, and the hiss at zero-volume is almost gone now using the high-level outputs. However, I think I might just buy a 4-channel rca cable, and go line level. It couldn't hurt to remove two stages of processing (HU amp and LOC) from the signal path.

Ya know, Pioneer should be ashamed of themselves. It's really unacceptable. My next Navs will not be a Pioneer. I'm gonna look at Kenwood, Alpine, maybe score an Eclipse on closeout.

In my case, it's just standard hiss. It sounds like "ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss". And, it is audible not just between songs, but also when songs are paused, before music has even started playing during bootup, and/or when the volume is at zero. It does get louder if I crank the volume up. But, it is clearly audible at zero.

I have never used the RCA preamp outs. But, I will pull the HU and try them to see if it helps. If the hiss is still there, I will then try your fix, and see if that helps. Hey. It worked for you. I have been using the high-level speaker outputs with both the factory Monsoon amp and the new aftermarket amp. So, I am hoping that the problem is caused by the Pioneer amp section. I guess I'll see when I try the preamp outs.

It's obvious the noise is originating before the external amp. But, my original question was whether or not it is being created before the internal map. If not, and it's created in the amp itself, bypassing it should help. As soon as I have the time, I guess I will just pull the HU and see if running a line level cable from the pre-outs to the amp gets rid of or reduces the hiss. If fonjo's problem was due to blown pico fuses at the pre-out, then I guess that doesn't affect my situation. Although, it might when I switch to the pre-outs. I think I'll throw out my question to all the

OK then. I'll try it. But, I'll use alligator clips for testing, before soldering anything. I still can't imagine hiss being a grounding issue. But, if it works, that's all that matters. Thanks.

Thanks. But, are you sure about that? Have you done this yourself to correct the problem? Is it possible you are confusing the term "hiss" with "hum"? I can't imagine how grounding could get rid of hiss? I often see people mix up audio noise terms like hiss, hum, static, and whine, which are usually caused by different things, and sound quite different from each other. This is a high-end hiss, a soft whooshing sound like a breeze. It's identical to the background hiss on old cassette tapes. Except, in this case, it's there even when nothing is playing and the volume is at zero.

It doesn't sound like a computer /software thing, as the hiss is there even when the volume is at zero. That tells me it is most likely in the HW, either the power amp or pre-amp sections. I was hoping that somebody who has used both the speaker outpuuts and the pre-amp outputs could post whether they noticed a difference or not. As for the LOC, I think I made it clear why I used it, to avoid running add'l cables. And, the amp wasn't a waste of money using the LOC, as it sounds much better than with the factory Monsoon. There has always been hiss coming from my F700, even when the volume is at zero. At first I thought it might be the factory Monsoon amp. But I just replaced it with an aftermarket Eclipse amp, and it's even more noticeable now. (I assume it's the higher quality amp and speakers reproducing the AVIC's hiss that much better.) Well...I answered my own question. Re-installing the hacked ezrider file did the trick. Does anybody see any improvement with the 3.02 update? Does it noticeably fix anything on the F series?

The thought just occurred to me that it could be because I was using a newer California map, and the 3.02 update must have overwritten the custom ezrider file? Does that sound about right? If so, would re-installing the factory map restore map data? Or, better yet, would over-writing the factory ezrider with the custom one restore the new map data? Or, are there more files involved? It's been so long since I did the ezrider/map hack that I forget all of the files involved. Thanks.

I just ran the 3.02 update. I was running 3.01 until now. After running the update, when I go to the map, it has no info. It's blank! Audio functions are still working OK. POI's are still there. Favorites are alsoo intact. But, I no longer have any map info, graphics or text on the map screen. (Buttons, compass, distance displays are there. Just no map-specific data.) Is anybody familiar with this issue, and how to correct it? Thanks.

That would be nice. One possibility is that he changed the names of the Polish voice files to match the Spanish and French ones on there already, and copied over the originals.

Actually, I've posted a number of times my smart solution to my particular problem. But, one cannot have a smart solution until one knows the cause of the problem. And, just going out and buying a new cable when there is a good chance nothing is wrong with the present one is the opposite of smart, often referred to as stupid.

It doesn't, afaik, at least not the 3G and 3GS. Older style iPod and iPhone chargers don't work with them either.
