I did this (on accident, before reading this post). I didn't have to leave the car off for a full day, just overnight. I thought I had a paperweight, then 5minutes after driving...BAM....the update kicked in on its own. I'm still trying to bypass (my control 2 already had the mute wire in the bottom left slot, and ground it causes me to loose sound controls ).
