  1. Here is a picture of the CF sub harness after I made the wire switch: I moved the two black wires over one spot. This was an instruction from crutchfield. Now, the black wires line up with the black ground wire on the truck factory harness. Still seem weird? As for the regulator, I went ahead and purchased what I needed earlier today - and tried to seek some help from the radio shack guys on how to build. Not much luck... I connect a wire to the input, ground, and output. How do I connect the caps?
  2. Is this what you are needing to see? Yes - when I moved the wire, the sub still worked. I spoke to Crutchfield last night - they suggested moving the wires. I didnt think they would have built their harness wrong?
  3. Sorry for being vague - not real experienced with this stuff - but learning as I go along. The connection supplied with the Pioneer unit that has the sub output plugs into this Crutchfield wiring harness adapter: If you look at the shield ground wires on the back of this harness, in what I'll call column 2... When I look at the factory harness that the crutchfield adaptor plugs into, the black ground wire is in, say, position 3. So i took the two small black wires in the picture above and moved them over one position. I hooked everything back up again today and it had eli
  4. By the way - I was noticing a hum when I had the sub connected. I looked at the factory sub harness and the Crutchfield harness, and noticed that the black ground wire on the factory harness was not lining up with the two shield ground wires on the CF sub harness. So I moved the location of the CF subharness grounds to match. This eliminated the constant hum, but now I notice that when I shut off the power, i get a quick, like 1 second, hum. I do NOT have any regulator installed at the moment - should a regulator help that as well as the initial thump?
  5. Yep - I had planned on going with the second set you have pictured. I might just order one from you, as I am confused on the cap part. If I hook up the sub as is now, and install that later - will I do any harm? Thanks
  6. Thanks ducatiboy. I'm going to head out to Radio Shack and get the stuff. I purchased a couple of the 5v regulators yesterday - but just hooking that inline is not the "right" way. I'll show that datasheet to the folks at the store.
  7. I'm trying to wrap up my Z1 install in my F150, and I get a thump in the subwoofer when I turn the truck on. I followed instructions for a 5v regulator installation, but then I found this post: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... er&start=0 I wanted to see if someone could put in newbie terms the correct way to install this reducer? My initial understanding is that I solder the input, output, then solder a ground wire that I hook up to the ground on my HU harness...
  8. OK - wired the CF and Pioneer Harness together. Am I on the right track? Next task is to start exploring behind the dash cover... Also - I guess I can go ahead and do part of the bypass now? Take the cell phone mute wire, plug it into the correct slot on the harness, then ground the parking brake wire at the time of install?
  9. HA! What a useful post! I cant believe I didnt run across that - I've been reading for days. That sounds like what I'm about to go through in the next few... Looks like you might have been the fellow who pulled him through? I have the same post going on f150online as well - figured what the h***.
  10. I thought I would start a new post detailing my installation of the AVIC-Z1. I received most of my components today: AVIC Z1 (Mfg December 2006) ND-BT1 Bluetooth Adapter CD-iB100ii Ipod Control Interface ND-BC1 - Rear Camera (not here just yet) I laid some stuff out on the floor tonight - being that this is my first real car audio installation effort - to try to piece some things together. I have to say that all of the wires when I opened the boxes scared the poo out of me, but I'm coming around. I received the wiring harness from Crutchfield, and pre-matched everything. I
  11. OK - received my stuff (or the majority of it) today. The backup camera is still on its way. The unit was mfg in December 2006 - So I have read up on the bypass procedures. I'm not sure I totally grasp it yet, as I have not started any installation - but I'm hoping it will come to me. I'll keep you all posted. Might start the install tomorrow.
  12. LOL! I figured that would be in the equation! Thanks for the information - I'll seek things out under there. Everything should arrive on Friday - so I'll get started soon. I'll be sure to post some pics along the way - and will probably be back for more information. Make that definitely be back for more information!
  13. OK - thanks for the info thus far. I think i'm getting a better grip on this stuff. As far as the backup camera...has anyone done an install in an F150 that can share the route they took with the cable? Thanks!
  14. Jimmy303, Are you assuming I get the required stuff Crutchfield states I should get? I'm reading alot about bypassing this and that - so the DVD works when the truck is in motion, parking brake bypass, etc. What is all that about? Chris
  15. Not really - Installed a pair of speakers years ago - but I dont think that would count?
