i couldnt find the service manual either

but i have uploaded some instructions and pics of disassembly

Well after 5 or 6 hours of messing with it, and 3 different trips to the store to buy a different 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, and 3 different PCs later, i have upgraded my Z2 to a Z3

 

it appears that even if you update the BIOS on a Gateway PC, they still arent good enough to recognize a locked drive, and just give a Secondary Master Hard Drive error (on a E series e2000 anyway)

 

i had to use a Dell that i found that was all sata, disconnect the cd rom from the IDE on the board, unlock the Tosh drive, then use the e2000 (now that the drive was wiped) to boot the MHDD and disable security (i put the cd rom as the slave on the primary IDE and the tosh drive on the secondary master

 

it was quite the process, and after i updated the XM logos i didnt feel like messing with the gracenote update and figured i would use my cd that i used with the z2 fw. i forgot that the cd wont work on z3 fw!! oh well

 

thank to all on here who have dedicated time and knowledge. I will keep the image seeding as long as i can here at work

sorry for the long post, i had to rant

ive been seeing for 2 weeks. It took me a while to get the whole file, but it looks like i started a second coming!

 

Ha ha. I will keeo seeding for another week or two at least.

i finished the z3 download last night as well. I have been seeding it and will continue to seed for a week or two. I will throw the updates on there and upload to rapidshare if no one else can get their copy up

Garrett, would you mind informin me of what i will need to update on my hdd once i have this image? Im speaking of Gracenotes and the XM logos which I know of, but is there anything else i need?

ive been seeding for the last week and a half, im at 91% now and will continue to seed after i get 100%

 

sucky thing is i have 1 peer that im downloading 60b/sec from.

 

im being patient though, it shouldnt be too lobg before im done

i have been downloading and seeding since i first posted here. I have had it on 24-7 last time i checked i was ~35%

i have mine sitting on my dash where it meets the windshield. no issues for me. it has been suggested though that you use the small metal plate under the antenna

i can host it for about a week before anyone starts getting suspicious. So maybe we can stagger it? takes turns?

no worries man, if youre going to throw it on megaupload or rapidshare you dont have to send me the thumbdrive, thanks tho!

garrett toomey, a user on this board can help you out. the update is the same whether you get the cd from poineer or an update from him. the only difference being i believe Garrett's drives have the most recent Gracenote Database and the newest XM icons

he also will update your current hdd if you dont want to purchase another seperate drive

sorry, i didnt read your whole post, try to initiate the pairing from the headunit, you ill need to set your Storm to "listen" for a device to find it in the settings menu, then set up connectin, and click listen

try 0000 as your passcode

i could more likely than not could get you a username and password to upload to my ftp here at work and i can host it for a while until the bigwigs find me out. lol

I should have the files in a day. I found a guy in town that works at a car stereo place. He has the image and is loading it to my 32gb jump drive tonight. If you want the image you can email me. jdsnowden@ncgs.com
