  1. What's up everyone,

I guess it does seem like I abandoned this forum and fell off the face of the earth. Sorry about that. I have actually been extremely busy and on the road a lot, and when I wasn't on the road, I was either practicing with our band or busy designing web sites. One web site that I designed is actually a forum, similar to this one. Another is a web site for my band, DownSide Out. Check out my websites and let me know if you think I'm worthy. You guys are really the greatest critics I know so your input would really mean a lot to me. Here are the web addresses that I designed 100% myself:

    http://www.raymarineforum.com

    http://www.downsideout.com

And if you go to the DownSide Out website, you'll finally get to see what I look like.

I will try to stay in touch from time to time. I love the drama that this site produces sometimes. And I will definitely own another AVIC-Z series unit. I just needed to sell right know to pay a few bills.

Our band will head to the studio in two months to cut our first CD of all original songs. So I will again be busy in the studio. The band has spent $3000 to cut 1000 Cds and guaranteed airtime on XM Radio and various radio Stations throughout the US. So if you hear a song on the radio by the band DownSide out, you'll know that it's my band with me at lead vocals. Once it is complete and we go on the air, I will notify you guys!

    Take care everyone!

    Cheers,

  2. For anyone looking for a very clean like new AVIC-Z1 System, I have mine listed on eBay and the auction ends tonight at around 9:00 EST. A 2 year warranty is included with the system.

Don't waste your time reading this. Go bid now. If you have any questions about the system, please post them on eBay for a guaranteed reply before the auction ends.

The auction no. is 320103238954 and you can copy and paste this number into any search window on eBay.

My eBay user ID is Wavesofthunder!

  3. Here is the post that I remembered:

i can view the files on the z1 hd, landed up using an ide-laptop case usb 2.0 and plugging it into my mac. its has a bunch of files and folders but i cant make sence of anything.

I did the same thing except I connected it to a PC instead of a MAC. From what I've read this shouldn't have worked. ATA locking doesn't care what computer you connect it to. Sounds like you have an unlocked hard drive.

Did you by chance do this before you ever turned the z1 on for the first time? Because of how the z1 locked another drive of mine as soon as it was inserted and powered up perhaps the inital drives from Pioneer come unlocked and are locked on first boot. Sort of like how smart cards are married in satelite systems for those that know about that stuff too.

  4. Ducatiboy,

The reason I mentioned this is because I recall reading a thread on this forum where someone stated that he could read all of the files on his Z1 hard drive and that he did not unlock it himself.

Do you recall reading this thread? Anyway, it must have came to him unlocked and was probably just a fluke but nevertheless, it proves that it could happen. Agreed?

    Kevin

  5. You know DucatiBoy,

As I think about this, I agree on everything you said except for re-locking the hard drive.

I think that if I did have to send it in for service, I would change back the bootup image to the original Pioneer image but would leave the HD unlocked, hoping that it would be returned to me unlocked so that I wouldn't have to repay the $50 fee.

Why re-lock it? They would be hard pressed to prove that I unlocked it myself. I would plead my case that it must have been shipped to me that way. And the fact that I purchased my Z1 refurbished, would probably make my case all the more believable.

What is your opinion on this ducatiboy?

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  6. Yeah,

The small cams are nice and have the advantage of discretion however, due to their smaller lens size and lack of LEDs, you sacrifice image quality and night vision. I guess it's a trade-off and just depends on what is most important to you.

But when you buy your camera, make sure it has a CCD lens and not a junk CMOS lens, and look for one with as many lines of resolution as possible.

May the force be with you!

    Kevin

  7. Very interesting study.

It's nice to see that Pioneer is leading the pack!

I wonder if there is a way to find out which mapping software is being used on the Lincoln Zephyr's Pioneer Nav system. It would be interesting to know if it is TeleAtlas. I also wonder which consumer Pioneer system it is likened to; the N3, D3 etc.??? Thanks for the results of the study.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  8. I understand.

It's a fair price for someone. You know, it's very rare that I buy something from BestBuy because they usually sell everything at retail. Once in awhile, I see a good deal in the sales flyer.

But I do like going to BB to demo the stuff, and they I wind up buying it on eBay for 30-50% less. I know that's terrible, but I like to keep as much money in my pocket as possible.

Are you allowed to sell it to a customer who is having an install done or is that against store policy? I figured that you could sell it to one of your customers who are having a Z1 installed, or is that a rare purchase for a BestBuy customer?

Anyway, thanks again for making the offer.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  9. I have been an XM subscriber since July 2005 and tonight I called XM to cancel my subscription and told them I was going with Sirius.

Here are the details of our conversation:

"Hello, I would like to cancel my XM Satellite Radio subscription please."

"I am sorry to hear that you are cancelling with us Mr. Moloney. How would you like to have the best of both worlds?" the woman asked.

    "Go on" I said.

"To keep your business with us, we will give you XM service for the next 12 mos. at half off. And we'll conveniently bill your credit card for a one time fee of $77 to cover your next 12 mos. subscription" the woman said.

I replied, "But I just bought a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and only have the Sirius radio module. It does have an optional XM module available but I do not yet have that module."

"No problem", she replied. "Since you are paid up until February 21, 2007, we will just extend your current subscription for the next 2 mos. free of charge to give you enough time to purchase your XM module. So enjoy your next 2 mos. for free and when you get your new XM module installed, give us a call and we will transfer your subscription to your new XM module."

"So I get to keep my existing XM subscription on my existing XM mobile radio until April 21, 2007 at no charge", I asked.

    "That's right", the woman replied.

"That sounds good, I said. "Lets do that. I'll call as soon as my new module comes in."

"Very good", she replied. Have a nice evening." "You too, goodbye".

So I guess I am going to get the best of both worlds! What a deal!

"Beyond AM, Beyond FM, XM AND SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Who says you can't have it all!

    That's my new slogan :D

    Cheers All,

    Kevin

  10. Who you talkin about PaisanNYC?

That Post Whore named Josh who calls himself cntrylvr79? I think that sounds like a good plan. He sounds pretty damn knowledgeable. At least he posts like does. he he he!

You know, it seems like a lot of members on this forum live on the East side of the US. Maybe we should have an AVIC convention this summer in NYC? That would give me a reason to go back to NYC. I have family there and Lord knows that they don't entice me to go back.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  11. It amazes me that everyone is willing to spend two grand on their head unit but won't spend $$$ on the accessories.

Or is everyone so broke after buying their Z1 that they can't afford the accessories?

    Maybe that's it!

Anyway, I paid $75 for my BT Adapter on eBay. That's the best price I could find.

As for the camera, if you go cheap, you get junk such as; cameras that don't see well at night, line noise, unclear images etc.

Here is what to look for in a rear camera: Try to find one with a 1/3" or 1/4" CCD lens with LEDs. (1/3" is better). Try to get one with at least 380 lines of resolution and a minimum of 110 degree viewing angle. Make sure it has the mirror/reverse image option. Follow these parameters and you'll be fine.

    Cheers,

    Kevin
