  1. I think it should be dependant upon when you bought your unit. If you bought it within 6 mos. of the new mapping release, then you should get the upgrade for free, outside of that time frame, I can understand that an upgrade fee should apply. This is not just Pioneer doing this, most GPS manufacturers charge for yearly mapping ugrades.

    Cheers,

  2. jcinosky,

    Go to the following link:

    http://www.alldatadiy.com/

This is a site owned by AutoZone. You can buy a subscription that will cover everything about your 01 Land Rover Discovery II including complete wiring schematics for your vehicle. It's like having a complete service manual online.

By the way, it appears that your year, make and model is available for subscription.

    Cheers,

  3. It sounds to me like you're getting noise interference from the nav unit itself. Most likely your brand of camera cannot suppress the noise properly.

Can you tell me if the noise occurs only in full display and only while the car is in reverse (engine running) or does it also occur while in drive or park and viewing it via split screen along with the nav map (engine running)?

If the noise occurs only while in reverse (engine running), then there may be a problem with your reverse wire -to- taillight connection. BTW, did you run the Z1 reverse wire directly to one of the taillight's reverse bulb leads or did you connect this wire somewhere under the dash?

Either way, try adding a ground/noise suppressor inline with the ground wire of the camera (closest to camera).

Keep us posted. We're here to help.

  4. I bought my bluetooth adapter from him several months ago and as I recall, I received it within a week so I based my recommendation of him on my past buying experience with him. I'm not sure why anyone would sell something only to refund the money everytime. Makes no sense.

Yes, he does have negative feedback but didn't I already cover this in my earlier post?

Again, he is a Powerseller with a lot of feedback which tells me that he isn't going anywhere. And if he isn't going anywhere, than I know I can always get my PayPal payment refunded in the event that he defaults.

I would email him to see if he has the Z1 on hand. If he says that he doesn't than don't buy it. It's as simple as that, hence my earlier post "telling him that you need it right away for a customer install"

As for a warranty, you'll need to buy from an authorized Pioneer dealer to be covered and I'm not sure that this guy is.

    I responded to your PM...

  5. Jaytrey,

I know you are frustrated right now and I certainly understand how you feel.

eBay is probably your only bet right now for a Z1. Trust only a Power Seller. Yes, Power Sellers will have negative feedback but it's because they deal in high volumes and will always have dissatisfied customers.

Click on the following link. I have bought from ths guy before and he is trustworthy. Your payment is also protected through PayPal. These are currently the only Z1s on eBay that I would consider buying. And it's a very reasonable price considering the scarcity of the Z1.

Tell the seller that you need it immediately for a customer install and they will ship it right away!

    Good Luck,

  6. drozovs,

Yes the upgrade has been announced unofficially at CES and definitely will become available in the spring, around the same time the Z2 is released. I spoke to Ray at Pioneer US Headquarters in Long Beach, CA just last week and he confirmed this with me over the phone. So I heard this firsthand. The upgrade will make a Z1 become a Z2 in all aspects.

    Kevin

  7. Yeah,

They don't even list the AVIC-Z1 on their website anymore, nor do they mention the Z2.

I would give them a call and ask how they intend to resolve this Z1 backorder problem. Ask if you can holdout for a Z2 and get it at the same price you paid them for the Z1.

    Kevin

  8. Nothing is for certain but that is the slated month for delivery of the first Z2 shipments.

There are also no guarantees that a new Z2 won't freeze up on you. It's a random defect that can occur in any nav system let alone the Pioneer AVIC-Z1.

Keep in mind that there are a lot of Z1s out there that don't freeze up. Its just bad luck that you got a popsicle.

    Kevin

  9. jaytrey,

This is happening everywhere. There should be one more Z1 shipment from Japan with product manufactured dates of December 2006, however, the supply of this shipment is supposed to be extremely limited.

Where did you buy it at?

    Kevin

  10. Technically tgrove is correct.

The final Z1s were manufactured in December 2006 but I don't know that Crutchfield will see any of them. And even if they do, I would definitely hold out for the Z2. The navigation of the Z2 is suppose to be a substantial improvement over the Z1 navigation. If you do buy the Z1, you'll need to spend another $200 to upgrade it to the Z2 once the upgrade becomes available.

I would suggest that you contact Crutchfield and ask if you can hold out for the Z2 and purchase it for the same price that you paid them for the Z1. I'm sure they will let you do this. If they won't, then cancel your order and holdout for the first Z2 that becomes available. You'll be able to buy a new Z2 at the same price that Crutchfield is selling you the Z1 for.

    Good luck with your decison.

    Kevin

  11. Yeah,

I'm surprised that Crutchfield placed an AVIC-Z1 on backorderfor you. there are no more Z1s. I'm sure that you'll be getting a Z2 instead of a Z1. You should give Crutchfield a call to confirm this.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  12. Yeah,

My money was on the Saints and the Colts this week. In my opinion, Breese has no reason to be embarassed. Chicago is a hostile environment and it's hard for any dome team to battle the elements of an open air stadium this time of year. The Saints had a great run. And compared to where they were this time last year, this was quite an accomplishmen for them. If they can beef up their defense in the off season, they will definitey be Superbowl contenders for 2007.

Colts Vs. Chicago should make for a great Superbowl. Manning and company were due to make it to the big show.

Again, my money is on the Colts.

  13. Jaytrey,

Again, I'm offering to help you out over the phone and with no long distance charges to you. I know your vehicle very well so just call me when you get the Z1 installed and I'll walk you through the by-pass over the phone. In 15- 20 minutes you will have the by-pass completed, you'll have the bluetooth fix and you will not need to install anything.

Don't make this hard on yourself. Its a simple modification. The Explorer face pops on and off really easily so even after your Z1 is installed, you can gain access to it and do the by-pass yourself for free. Just tell your installer not to cut the wires of the AVIC-Z1 harness too short during install so that you can have future access to the rear of the Z1 as required. And also, tell him to skip grounding the parking brake and just coil up the green wire and set it aside.

And one more bit of advice. Check the manufactured date of your Z1 and document it somewhere handy before having it installed. I'll need to know this date to determine whether or not you'll need to download the latest update for the bluetooth fix and by-pass.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  14. 99Lim,

In your last picture, you must have had more clearance between the top of your dash and your vents than the jeep in the first picture. Because, by looking at your first picture, there is NO WAY that the Z1 will fit without relocating those vents.

Is the Eclipse screen smaller than that of the Z1?

My stereo opening is double din and I still had to do some cutting to get my Z1 to fit. The Z1 is a FULL double din. Not even a little bit under.

If you think you can do it without moving or eliminating the vents, I say go for it. And I want to see pictures when it's done. And then I'll eat crow.

    Good luck to you.

    Kevin
