  1. I thought there was a difference in modding. Is it true you cannot mod the x-series?

The software most people are using to install 3x firmware on their F series models is sourced from an X910. Exact same stuff. All hacks from one work on the other.

  2. The F-series had defective flash drives so I am pretty sure the that was changed with the X-series. The F-series was actually developed by an outside 3rd party whereas the X-series was done completely by Pioneer because of the F-series debacle. It would make sense if more things were changed but I was only told about the flash memory.

You have some kind of documentation on this?

  3. So that's NORMAL? Wow. Does it happen on 3.01 as well? Was that one of the fixes? Can anyone answer the three questions from before?

3.01 is hosted on the Pioneer website. Instructions are with it.

The bypass instructions are the same for all firmware versions of F and X series radios. Ground the parking brake wire, and either a) move the mute wire to pin 4 and ground it, or B) modify the software setting for maximum speed with the brake off. Both are well documented here.

No idea on the SD issue, haven't tested it.

  4. I've read the posts and FAQs but still have a question. I've done the bypass on a F90BT. The DVD works fine now along with entering addresses while driving. However my brake light flashes while driving and is on steady while parked. Like it thinks the brakes are set. It seems to be grounded fine. Any ideas or is this normal operation with the bypass?

    Thanks for any help.

This has been covered several times in these forums. You need to cut the parking brake wire from the radio where it connects to your car's parking brake wire. Then ground the wire from the radio.

Just to add to that... You should not touch your car's parking brake wire at all. Leave it alone. All you need to do is move the mute wire, then connect it and the radio's parking brake wire to ground.

  5. Has anyone been able to update from 3.0 to 3.01 with the update file being premodded with the software bypass? I keep getting an error saying file does not match when it starts the install. I didn't have any issues going from 2.0 to 3.0 with the 3.0 file being modded at the time of install but this 3.01 update is giving me some issues.

How exactly did you try to do the 3.01 update with the modified data.zip? Did you copy it on to the SD card in place of the one provided by Pioneer, then reboot and let it boot from the SD card? If so, that won't work. The integrity check will catch it every time. You'll need to do the update, then replace the file. The 3.0 upgrade gets around that because we're not using an official installation utility that checks itself.

  6. Retell, you rock! Install went smooth, other than my screen being misaligned so I couldn't get the top menu buttons in WinCE.

That comes up a lot. If you ever go into testmode, the FIRST thing you should do is open Control Panel and run the Stylus Calibration utility. The process takes perhaps 30 seconds and eliminates all problems with clicking anywhere on the screen.

  7. I'll mirror it tonight and post it here... if someone can tell me how to update to 3.1 :P:twisted::P

I'm not trying to be rude here, but what you're asking has already been answered. The instructions are AT the link for the 3.01 update. As I said earlier:

"That's the 3.01 update. Read the instructions from page one for the 3.0 update. Once you're on 3.0, read the instructions for 3.01 and install accordingly."

What question remains? Update 3.0 based on the instructions posted here. Go to the 3.01 update and follow the instructions there.

  8. silly question but I downloaded the "AVIC_X-Series_Firmware_Update.zip" and there is no "My Flash Disk" folder inside... only "LPUE080"... should this be renamed to "My Flash Disk"? Or just copy the contents of "LPUE080" into the "My Flash Disk" on the AVIC? Thx! That's the only unclear thing I can see so far...

That's the 3.01 update. Read the instructions from page one for the 3.0 update. Once you're on 3.0, read the instructions for 3.01 and install accordingly.

  9. Has anybody discovered wether the brake bypass wire must be connected DIRECTLY to a chassis ground?

I moved my mute wire to the 4th pin in (on the other row) of the F90 header (as detailed on 411 forum) and attached the other end to the ground lead of my truck header but I still get the warning. shouldn't the ground off my truck header be good enough?

    help.....

It doesn't make a bit of difference. As long as you connect the parking brake and transplanted mute wires to something that ties into the negative side of the battery, it will work fine. Chassis ground, existing ground wire for the radio, etc - they'll all work fine. There's really no reason not to just tap them into the existing negative wire.

  10. The 3.01 does not install according to the pioneer instructions.

I placed the LPU folder on the sd card, inserted into stereo, powered up stereo but it justs boots up normal no - automatic update! should I start up the testmode and copy and paste? any tips?

maybe i need to take the files out of the LPU folder and place them on the sd card?

    please help...

All I did was to download 3.00 from this forum

download 3.01 from the pioneer web site

merge (copy and replace) the 2 file coping 3.01 files to the full 3.00 file

on the computer, to the proper folders

copy completed files to disc with testmode

load on to unit after updating Wince by formating

So you just overwrote any 3.00 files in the flash folder with the equivalents from the 3.01 update? Interesting. Might have to try that. A complete 2.x -> 3.01 update with a single file copy (not counting WinCE) would simplify the procedure for a lot of people.

  11. Sorry all but I did some searching and can't seem to find the answer to this here. What exactly is the 3.01 update? Pioneer hasn't even shipped the 3.0 update and yet there's already another one publicly available? Again my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. All I can find is references to 3.01, not an explanation of what it is or what it's good for. Thanks!

  12. Glad that's done. The only thing I'd add is to suggest running the Stylus Calibration utility in Control Panel the second you boot up in Testmode. Actually, the ideal thing here would be to make a new torrent with the modified data.zip already in the flash files, and a batch file that would automatically copy all the files onto the Avic. Doing that would eliminate most of the problems people seem to be experiencing.

  13. Instead of resorting to the insults that some apparently feel are required to fit in here, I'll just say that it DOES make sense to me to create a separate section for 3.0 related discussion, or to re-title the X radio section to 'Avic X series and 3.0 F series'. It would keep things more appropriately organized.

  14. Parking brake needs to be grounded plus -either- software hack or move and ground the mute wire. I suspect yours had the software hack, and that it was cleared in the firmware upgrade. You can either redo the hack or pull the radio out and move/ground the mute wire. The easiest would be the software change.

  15. Thanks, but I have absolutely no idea where to begin or how to "hack" my unit.

Did you read the info at the link I posted? Any specific questions? I'll try to help you if you can indicate what you're having trouble with.

  16. Anyway you can take a screen image of the folders that you had on your SD cards? I have to be missing something simple. I remember having 3.5 folder from the torrent, I had the test mode folder, the unzipped data folder, and the winCE files.

On the root of the SD card you will have two WinCE image files, the Testmode folder, and 'My Flash Disk' from the X910BT that you downloaded in the torrent.

  17. After downloading the zip file from torrent I've unzipped it (extracted all). After doing this Windows Vista creates a new file without the .zip extension. What i'm not clear on is when I explore the content of the new file, there are more zipped files inside!! I then unzip those, ie DATA file. I then delete the .zip file and leave the newly created file after unzipping. Is this correct or not. Maybe this is causing my update malfunction. My unit displays a Windows box on startup for a split second after the Pioneer logo, that says, "Program application database cannot be found". Then when the main menu boots up the "startup in progress" box does not go away. Finally after like a couple minutes the system keeps rebooting. I've been wrestling with this for 3 days now. Please any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. I have the Avic-f900bt unit.

You're making it too hard on yourself. The only file you should unzip is the x910bt.zip you torrented in the beginning. Explore the contents and copy the entire 'My Flash Disk' folder onto your SD card. Don't worry if there are still zip files inside of that - it's just how the AVIC needs it. The torrented file is an exact copy of the X910bt's file system.
