  1. Yes of course I will blame Pioneer.

How can the Bluetooth on a phone work perfectly fine with the Avic Z1 for 2-3 months, then all of a sudden when you are out of your regular driving area travelling in areas that haven't been driven before or densely populated areas like Toronto Ontario - Avic Z1 continually disconnects and reconnects with the phone. With the having learning mode in the Avic, this problem seems to be too much of a coincidence.

Editted and added Sat. May 5th - this past two days I've also noticed that if I travel in our local area that are not mapped with the TeleAtlas data, ie. which was once a country side 6 years ago and now a subdivision, the Avic connects and disconnects the bluetooth. Again, too much a co-incidence on when the connect/disconnect occurences happen.

  2. I've been using my Avic Z1 with my Pearl 8100 Blackberry....and it's been working fine since January. I have noticed the past month or so and also with a previous Treo 650 phone that the Avic would connect and disconnect randomly, but most obviously and only in areas I haven't travelled in a while or highly congested areas such as Toronto Ontario.

I believe that the unit has auto learn and fear that this is a problem with Pioneers engineering. I have no problems around my home town and where I frequenly drive.

  3. The current Teleatlas data in the Z1 is supposed to be 2005, but I beg to differ.

I travel areas/streets/subdivisions that have been in existence since 1999 and are NOT on the 2005 so called data.

With the Bluetooth disconnecting while it seems the unit is in learn mode in highly populated areas or new areas and with these so called map updates, in my opinion, a great piece of work Pioneer has made, with poor planning and engineering.

  5. Now that they are launching the Avic-Z2...with UPDATED Maps...

Perhaps as a group we could get a letter over to some heads at Pioneer??

There seems to be two common problems with Avic-Z1:

    1) Bluetooth problems

    2) No updated Maps for the GPS

With the caliber of unit we have, you would think engineering would have played a better roll with the Avic-Z1.

I propose to write the letter, but we will also need to have a list/endoresement of fellow Avic-Z1 owners who have the same problem! I could compose the master cover letter to Pioneer and the individual Avic-Z1 owners also send in a brief letter stating they agree with the master letter? I'd be prepared to write the main letter and outline of the personal endoresement letter, you each personalize the endoresement letter and mail it to me. It will only cost you a stamp to Canada. I'll take all the letters and master letter and co-ordinate them to get to Pioneer?

    Any takers or suggestions??

  6. Yes, i did a full reset on the harddrive of the Avic...clearing the initial Treo 650.

I just got off the phone with Pioneer and they asked the same thing about doing the reset. They are about to fax me the list of compatible phones. Hope it's a big list.

  7. and actually, if lilred you took the time to read you would find the answer to your question of the disconnect... http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2409

also, this "may" help you kleenkut13 check out the compatible phones thread i mentioned earlier. there is some good info right on the first page of it. oh its a sticky too.

What's funny and strange is I have a brand new Treo 650 GSM and it worked fine for over 1 month...then all of a sudden the same phone would not connect to the Bluetooth on the Avic... the only time it does now is when a call is received or initiated by the Cel Phone. I thought the problem was with the Treo so they replaced it... the new replacement initially connects to the Avic bluetooth for about 1 minute...then it act the way as mentioned above.

to the previous post to the thread about compatible phones, you need to look elsewhere for the Palm OS... Garnet 5.4.8 is the latest OS version of Palm...not 1. something!

Why would the phone work perfectly for more than a month, then all of a sudden start to work differently??

  9. I've used a brand new Treo 650 on GSM since purchasing the Avic Z1 in Nov. 2006. The Bluetooth worked like a charm, no disconnetions, no problems.

All of a sudden 1 week ago... the Bluetooth disconnected in the middle of a conversation... and it would never reconnect again on it's own. The only time it would connect is if the call is initiated from the phone or there is an incoming call.

I tried a Nokia 6103 (Wife's simple flip phone) and it connected no problem. I called Treo and they said that the Pioneer is not on their compatability list. I insisted on sending the phone back to Palm for replacement under warranty. The new phone they sent me does almost the exact same thing as the previous phone did recently.

With the new replaced Treo 650, when the ignition is turned on and the Pioneer boots up... the bluetooth does connect for about 1 minute.... then the Blue Icon Phone on the Avic screen gets an "X" through it.... and I can't use any voice commands or initiate calls from the Avic. If the phone rings...the Avic then connects to the blue tooth...or if a call is initiated by the phone then the Bluetooth connects.

Anyone heard of this?? Or have suggestions??

I've been on hold with Pioneer for about 20 minutes so far. I'll fill everyone in if I hear anything.

  10. My unit was purchased brand new, Nov. 2006.

I was disappointed with the unit that the map updates claim to be 2005, when in fact, here in Ontario Canada....there are areas on the GPS that were developed more than 6 years ago! What kind of updated maps are these??

Is there an update on the maps coming out??

  11. [quote name="maynard"]Carrier: Verizon
    Phone: Treo 650
    Tranfer Contacts: Not Supported
Calling: Connects with my Z1, however only connects when receiving a call or dialing (sending) from the Treo, no use of the Z1 dialing capabilities. I tried to update the software yesterday which was a mistake, now I have a Motorola V3c which works 100%. I am looking to trade the V3c for a Q, I see where it is fully functional, can someone verify that?

My Treo 650 worked for 1 month...then I couldn't use the Avic Z1 to initial calls... now they are initiated at the phone, or if a call is received is the ONLY time the Bluetooth will work between the two.

My cell provider is Rogers and I'm running the most recent OS for Palm , Garnet v.5.4.8. FYI 1.0 or 1.02a are NOT Palm OS version!

  12. I have a Treo 650... it worked fine with my Avic-Z1 with ND-BT1 for one month... all of a sudden the Treo would lose the Bluetooth connection, but if I called a number directly in my Treo and not the Avic, the Bluetooth would turn on.

I called Treo and they tell me the Pioneer is not on their compatibility list.

So I tred a Nokia 6103 (wife's phone) and it worked like a charm. My Treo has been replaced 3 times in two months under warranty and has done a lot of weird things such as shutting off, reseting on its own. It's getting trashed, and trying to find a new good phone that will work with the Avic
