1. I have not received my rebate and it has been exactly 2 months now. I swear I absolutely HATE rebates the amount of time it takes is absolutely obsurd. Mine has been saying accepted and ready for finaly processing now for basically 2 months.

Thanks for posting that number I just called the number and left a voicemail for Kent with my information. I will post back with what happens with mine as well.

2. You guys complaining about the bluetooth sound quality when talking on your phone.....Have you ever consideredf that it was the install or the location of the microphone? I installed my X920BT a couple weeks ago and every person I have asked while using my bluetooth says it sounds aboslutely perfect!!! Infact my wife says it sounds much better than my OEM hand free bluetooth in my 2007 Acura TL-S. Granted I have the X920BT installed in my 2000 Lexus ES300 which rides incredibly quiet inside so maybe that has something to do with it but I am VERY happy with the X920BT's bluetooth handfree...and apparently so is everyone else that I talk to :-)

3. I was a bit confused by the instruction that Pioneer posted as they are a bit shady on when your unit is out of date. From what I read I think mine is the most current software but I just wanted to ask here to be sure. I just got my unit a couple weeks ago and in the menus it says my version is 2.000. So does this mean the latest Pioneer software update applies to my unit or is 2.000 the latest version?

Thanks,

4. Wow thanks for the writeup morton10. I am glad I decided to go with the 5510 UPS tracking shows it arriving friday cant wait!!

I was gonna go into detail myself about some Pioneer nav nightmares but there was too many. Ok so I will tell two stories I have lol:

First was when I was in job training in Oklahoma City (home is in IL). I was simply routed on a highway and I followed the instructions to get off at an exit. At the bottom of the offramp you could either simply turn left or right. My destination was about 2 miles to the left and for god knows what reason the Pioneer nav told me to turn right and do a illegal u-turn about 3/4 of a mile down the road then head back in the correct direction . lol

I also find using Pioneers point of interest function about 97% useless. Again, I was in OKC and got out of training and was hungry. I selected the closest Taco Bell I drove 4 miles only to find myself in a resedential neighborhood. I was pissed and turned the nav off haha.

5. I am selling my 05 Grand Cherokee which I tried to get the factory parkview back up cam system to work. Since the option was not available in 05 model year I had no luck getting it to work. Since I have that camera and it is doing nothing I am curious if any of you would know how to get this cam to work with an aftermarket nav. Im guessing all the aftermarket units simply use an RCA input for the cam.

This OEM camera has a 4 wire harness. How can I convert this to work with an aftermarket unit? here is the diagram of the harness that comes out of the camera...

6. Well 5 minutes is a bit of an exaggeration either that or you were routing from NY to CA or something. My buddy says his AVN5510 loads route very quickly. Either way if a route loads in 10 seconds compared to 5 I dont care. Also, Eclipse does make units with hard drives this is one of the reasons the 5510 is a couple hundred less than the Z1/Z2.

I just figure might as well give Eclipse a shot especially after I have experienced some pretty poor nav routing with my N1/N2 and the D1. Hopefully Pioneer fixed these problems with the Z1/Z2.

7. Thanks for the input. The lack of a hard drive and single DVD slot does not bother me as I dont watch DVD's and simply dont need the hard drive.

I wish the same thing I have yet to see a Eclipse unit on display anywhere so its kind of hard to play around with one before buying. A friend of mine bought the 5510 and he absolutely loves it. I cant wait to get it should be in on thursday and I already have all the parts I need for the install. I know this is a Pioneer forum but I will report back with pics and my first impressions.

Anymore input is appreciated.

Thanks,

James

8. Hopefully the mods wont move this to general section as it doesnt seem much activity goes on there. Anyway, I have been a long time Pioneer nav user I have had a total of four of their units starting all the way back with the N1. I just purchased a 00 Accord EX V6 Coupe something that I can just drive and get good fuel economy in. It has a perfect double din slot and I obviously want nav. I wanna try something besides Pioneer and have always liked Eclipse. I ended up purchasing the new AVN-5510 7" nav last night. I know this forum may be biased towards Pioneer products, but does anyone have any experience with the AVN5510 or info about comparison between that and the Z1/Z2? A friend has the Z1 and seems like a nice unit but I still want to try out Eclipse. Here is the link to the 5510 http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/avn5510overviews.html

Thanks for any help,

James

9. Yeah I think there is some false info being told in this thread. You will NOT get full functionality by simply toggling a switch after the unit has booted up and turned on. If you want full functionality all the time you must solder the two points together. I did mine yesterday took 5 minutes at most (decal came off perfectly with heat gun) and you are done. No toggle switch will be needed and you wont get that stupid improper parking brake message at startup every time. Just do it and be done with it.

10. Sorry to scare you so much about the avics I didnt mean to. I absolutely love the unit (besides most of the nav features), and it has GREAT full colored mapping. I am currently using the N3 software in my N2 so yes the N3 is not perfect as far as the navi goes. If you stay away from using vicinity search and dont mind the occasional long stroll through a neighborhood for no reason then you will love it.
11.
The ires don't have nything to do with it. I ran my d1 for 3 months without the reverse and speed sense hooked since I didn't have the time to hook them up. It's more than likely incorrect information on the navigation discs though.
Yeah you are more than likely correct. I did notice that in the areas where the navi was acting up the road mapping was awkward and not correct (or the destination was not where it should be). So im wondering where the real problem lies then? Obviously the mapping is not up to par and is what is causing the navi to mess up.
12. The only thing the purple wire does is give a 12volt+ signal to tell the avic when to switch into rear camera view (if you have the camera). Thus, why it gets hooked up to a reverse signal (like your reverse lights). The unit shouldnt even do this if the pink speed sense wire wasnt hooked up. Seems to me these routing errors are all defects in the unit itself. Absolutely horrible and IMO not acceptible.
13.
might have to do with the type of route you prefer... shortest distance vs shortest time.

shortest distance may not equate into shortest time if it takes you through the local roads and such
I have tried rerouting using different methods and it does the same old crap. The issues im speaking dont actually have anything to do with shortest distance or fastest route. Try and picture this, why on earth would the navigation make you turn the completely wrong direction, only to have you do a u-turn to go back the way you could have orginally turned? The more and more I use this thing the more and more I hate it. The other day I tried to find a Taco Bell (I am out of town for work) so I honostly did not know where one was. I used vicinity search and it found two Taco Bells within three miles. I selected one, followed the route only to arrive at a gas station with no fast food in site. So I tried the other Taco Bell. Same F'in story no Taco Bell. I am using the latest nav DVD from a N3, the installation was done perfectly by me (I am also a MECP certified installer). I am real close to finally giving up on Pioneer navigation. So far in my experience it is pretty much useless (except for the great mapping).
Does anyone else have any input on this?
14. I love my avics but why does the navigation portion suck so badly? It is VERY rare that I can set a destination without this thing taking me some screwed up way. Last night put the icing on the cake when I used it to take me to the nearest Chilis restaurant. Basically, I was on the last leg of the drive (I knew where the Chilis was I was just trying the nav) and Chilis was about .5 mile ahead. Instead of saying destination ahead on the left it took me an entire block AFTER the destination, made me drive through a neighborhood block and get back on the same road and to the destination!!!! oh, this was all after it made me turn the wrong way after getting off the highway only to do a u-turn when I could have just turned right after getting off the highway (again I did turn right since I knew where I was going).
One other thing I find it doing is if I am on a straight road navigating, it will tell me to make a slight right turn ahead when the F'in road doesnt even turn or isnt even at an intersection!!!!!!

Sorry for the long post but as much as I like the Avic units this thing is really starting to upset me more and more. I have had the N1, D1, and now N2 (with N3 software) and they are all the same - HORRIBLE!

Anyone know what the deal is with these things? I have friends that have OEM nav units in there cars, and my moms and sisters Grand Cherokees have OEM nav and never have I seen one that does some of the things my Avic does.
15. I saw this on the Corvette forum where a guy was able to change the Pioneer boot up screen. I have searched all over this forum and found nothing. He says he read about it here but still no luck finding it. If anyone has the info on how to change this would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running the N2.

Thanks,
JT
