  1. What other BT features are available with the droid and the F series such as SMS alert, etc..

None. Just the same as any other regular phone unfortunately. F-Series fails.

  2. Sure it does. I expect the products I buy to work as advertised for longer than 2 years. Is that so hard to expect? Maybe it's a small selling point for THAT model... look at the F-series. It's a prominent selling feature. It's listed as one of the main features. One of the few reasons I even bought one was because I was fed up with the terrible time-delays associated with TMC Traffic Information (previous GPS was a $400 Navigon). I opted for this figuring the traffic info would be much better since it's an independent company that controls the traffic information -- and that was an excellent assumption: it IS much better than TMC, hands down -- but the fact remains that they are putting out a product that they know will lose SOME of its usefulness in less than two years.

Look, if you don't buy something as an investment, I understand. That would be like many people on this forum. I, on the other hand spend my money very wisely and take a lot of time to do research before investing in an expensive product like an in-dash GPS. I'm not made of money, I don't drive a Corvette. I expect my purchases to last me a long time (with full functionality), since I don't have the money to buy a new unit every third year.

    That is my point.

    /disagreement

  3. All I'm saying is releasing a product knowing full-well that it will be not-as-functional in less than two years is a shady practice as far as I'm concerned. Also, with all those ECO-friendly features, you'd think Traffic would be a pretty important factor in their fuel-savings plan.

  4. I'll be purchasing my 900bt in a few weeks and I thought no better place to beguin my journey into hackin things up then with the splash screen.

If anyone is kind enough to make one for me that is....

However, If I may ask first.

Do I need a 300 dollar program to create my own? Cheaper? Shareware?

I'm looking for a Mercury emblem, as I drive a Grand Marquis. Like the one in the Sync add at the bottom.

Float, shadow, no icons, brushed metal BG, maybe carbon fiber.

But to re-state, I'd realy like to do this myself, programs appreciated.

Photoshop... and I'd really recommend against buying any of the Pioneer Navigation devices at this point, unless you don't care about the traffic part of it. MSNDirect is permanently offline soon and you can't buy subscriptions to it anymore. Or you could get one that has XM and pay way too much for traffic as well... that would also work.

  5. You would still need some Navi software (and even with broadband Google Maps isn't exactly a solution) and I am not aware of too many Navi packages running on Linux. TomTom's PNAs use it but it is for their Linux and their hardware...

Just because the platform itself is open source does not mean that you can develop for it any easier than for WinCE (actually development for WinCE is easier) and all hardware drivers for AVIC and for WinCE anyway...

How is Google Maps not exactly a solution? Check out the new Motorola Droid... it uses Google Maps Turn-By-Turn Navigation.

  6. Is it just me or do we not have the billboards in Canadian maps?? Ive seen them on the screenshots, but I haven't seen any come up when I'm driving.....

They're everywhere in PA, but not in many places in Jersey... which is fine with me, cause Jersey isn't a real state. It's just a big stinky piece of land.

  7. I don't worry at all. I have a $0 comprehensive deductible.

But besides that, no. It's a LOT easier to sell a portable GPS on Craigslist or to an acquaintance for cheap than it is to sell an in-dash device which (assuming the thief didn't take their sweet time), needs to have harnesses and wires bought for it.

That doesn't mean they don't get stolen often, but the likelihood of having a portable GPS stolen is much, much higher than having someone breaking into your car for a PITA to remove without damaging the touchscreen in-dash GPS.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I've lived in a pretty crappy part of Philadelphia for 5 years now, and I only had my car broken into once... for a $5 generic phone charger and a can of mace of all things. I don't park in pay lots or garages. Just street parking.

If you're still super scared, there are a couple places to buy fake faceplates for your radios (like eBay). But obviously this won't fool anyone if you have a really expensive car with a crappy 90s looking faceplate lol

  8. You have to reinstall the 3.0 firmware upgrade. That happened to me the first time. Then my radio fucked up and I had to send it in to Pioneer. (unrelated).

Then I did a fresh install of 3.0 when they gave it back to me, and everything works perfectly :)

I think it happens if you remove the SD cards prematurely before updating MSN direct. It's kinda annoying how I figured that out after the fact.

  9. Um, alright? thanks for the sarcasm..Its an annoyance especially in neighborhoods..and im not sure if you read the rest of my problems.

Thanks for contributing nothing to my thread though.

    Have a box of tissues

Seriously though, twenty feet is definitely in tolerance for GPS error; this isn't military spec we're talking about here. I highly doubt the whine is of any fault of the unit; whines are caused not only by poor grounding but also by different paths being taken for the +12v between the amp and the AVIC. The DVD is unfortunate but easy enough for them to remove, perhaps replace a defective ejection motor or solenoid and send you back the same unit. To boot, I don't know that you can downgrade from 3.0 to 2.0 because of the difference in WinCE firmware. This may be a non-issue but to any observant tech, it'll be a dead giveaway that you're trying to fool them.

    +3.5

  10. Yeah, im downloading it..

Im sending it in for various problems, my dvd is stuck in the drive and wont come out, the GPS is inaccurate by about 20feet ahead, and i get the alternator whine, and i grounded it and it still wont go away.

Im hoping they would just send me a newly re-furbished unit .

20ft? Seriously? Good luck getting anywhere with that.

    lmao... oh noes

  11. ..., it is not stolen merchandise you prick. It was an extra unit that was returned by the customer to the shop and never sent back to pioneer. The owner of the shop is a close personal friend of mine and would never lie/sell me a stolen unit. Plus it was already out of warranty, but thanks.

LOL! I love how when you try to help people they call you names. I <3 the internet. I think the problem is there are too many trolls on the internet that are either fat, sexually frustrated 35 year olds, or 15 year old kids that think they run their grade school.

    Rofl.

Glad to hear you got your device working.

  12. I run into this on occasionally. I think the best thing to do when it won't find the number Highway you're looking for, is to type the address (Town, State), click City Center, and then hit the on-screen Map button (not the round one). From there, it will be very obvious where the Route or Highway number is. Then zoom in and see what the Street name is.

For example, it won't find Route 3 in West Chester, PA for me. BUT, when I typed in West Chester, PA, city center, map button, I found that Route 3 also goes by the name W Chester Pike.

When I put the address in as ### W Chester Pike, it worked.

So as stated before, it's a computer, so it's looking for exactly what it has in its database.. which is kinda annoying sometimes. Just whenever you get to your destination, save it in your favorites and you won't have to worry about remembering it again :)

  13. The only fix is sending it back to Pioneer, and they won't do it without proof of purchase. I think I'd be taking it back to the dealer you got it from and make them take care of it.

    +1

That password was created by someone to prevent a thief from being able to use it. Either the previous owner forgot to remove it, or that radio was indeed stolen. Either way, it has to be sent back to Pioneer for them to rebuild it, and as stated, they will not do that without proof of purchase.

Take it back to wherever you bought it from ASAP and demand a refund.

  14. The fact remain that road the gps sugested is a dead end! It shoudnt have sugested that road to start with!!

Amuse yourself to connect a portable garmin gps and ask it to give you a route and do the same with the pioneer; most of the time the route are quite different. The garmin road seem to be more "logic " then the Pionneer and most of the time it will be shorter.

It might be okay for somebody with his personal car who goes on a weekend to see a familly member and dosen't mind doing a few kms more and ariving a few minutes later but for a profesional like me( I drive a cab) with the clients in the car, i'm sorry but it just dosen't cut it.I need the direction to be dead on.I don't know if it a problem with tele Atlas or Pioneer but there is room for improvment to say the least.

I have an old avh-7500 connected to a avic 80dvd and the route sugested are sometime beyond wierd.Sometime a 2 km route turn into a 4km one.The best gps is still in my head and the experience I got from my job!

But I like the z110bt (the one i'm planning to buy) others functions so much that i'll probably end up buying it anyway.

I'll just use the gps to give a general indication of where I'm going but use my jugement to make the final decision. Or just buy a 2nd gps!!

I can't imagine that you'd have any trouble with 99%+ of your trips, unless you're a cab driver in Siberia or something. I drive for a living as well and I've never had any issues anywhere I've gone except one spot:

There is also a road out here where I live that USED to connect to the main road, but now dead ends. It was changed about a year ago, but there's no feasible way for Teleatlas to keep up with all of the roads in N/A in less than a year. I suspect the '09 maps were compiled starting in 08. Perhaps the Ithaca road was just an oversight since it MAY have at one point gone somewhere, and since then has just been completely overgrown or poorly managed, and whoever the roads dept is for that township may have neglected to inform Teleatlas. There are tons of possibilities for what could have gone wrong, so I personally wouldn't be so fast to blame Pioneer for a shitty product when it could have just as easily been any other issue.

Either way, that sucks. Just try to remember to not take that road in the future lol

  15. So i hooked the N64 up to a plug in on the outside of my house and now i see the screen but it is like a computer with a billion viruses and its also in black and white. HELP!!

Sounds like you broke your N64... mine still works just fine and has never looked like that. Did you try to hack it or something?

Heck, even my Sega Genesis works great still. Never heard of any issues like what you're describing.

  16. after i used the AV1 plugs in the back of the unit and plugged in the 3 rca male ends from the N64 i got a blank screen and static from the speakers. I tried every setting and they were all that way, though some where a little quiter than the others. So what am i doing wrong? I was going to put my ps3 in here, but i figured there would be too much power drain on my battery. So what am i doing wrong? thanks

If you feel the PS3 would drain your battery too much, then turn your car on. That way it's using the alternator to help the situation.

  17. So im coming home from Ithaca yesterday, and my f90 tells me to turn down a road as part of the directions to get home. ...

The road is a DIRT road

    The road is abandoned

The road is more like the course of the Baja 1000

The road then leads through a stream

The road then comes to a dead end in the middle of the woods.

Then i ask someone about it in the local town and the road has never lead anywhere and is merely a access road for hunters to get to the woods and kids to go down to make out.

Why is the F90Bt such a piece of shit and hte directions it gives suck.

Im so sick of this thing.

    Now that's just ludacris.

Allowing or Disallowing dirt roads is an option on the F-Series. Perhaps you should take another look at your settings to make sure you didn't check Allow.

  18. Did you upgrade the WinCE version?

Why did you install the hacked ezRider to upgrade to 3.01? That isn't part of the upgrade. That is part of the hack to use newer maps or certain mods.

Did the 3.0 upgrade work fine, and did it stop working after you installed Pioneer's 3.01 upgrade?

Be more specific about your steps, you were vague/

I had the 3.o upgrade hack already done last june and it did work

I downloaded the 3.01 910x upgrade from pioneer website

    I unzipped it with winrar

I followed the link above and upgraded my WinCE with the files supplied from pioneer

That emptied my "my flashdisk" folder except for the basics

    booted up with testmode

then copy and pasted all the files from the pioneer x910 update

after that, the radio didn't work, so I put back my original data folder with the radio stuff

Now radio works fine but nav not so good...

The x910 update does have a file called ezrider.exe init

Are you sure the X-update is what you wanted? Pioneer says that the x-version firmware will sort of work, but not really... it obviously isn't official or it would be on the updates page on the f-series webpage.
