  1. I've had my car in North Philly with the headunit in plain sight now for several months and I've had no problems.

In fact, a couple months ago, my car got broken into and they didn't even TOUCH the headunit.. they dug through the glovebox to find a GPS unit.... even though there was a very very nice one sitting in plain sight of them LOL.

    And then they got caught.

    And then I found $5.

  2. i had the same issue and pioneer charged me just the $200.00 fee. this was 2 years ago. from my understanding it costs $200 to fix any issue.

Right. If it's not covered under warranty, for them to do any repair is a flat $200. They may then charge additionally if they find something else that they feel they can charge you for.

For example, had my F-Series not been under warranty when it went into a non-provoked endless reboot cycle, the price they had quoted me simply to revert it back to a previous firmware version: $270.

  3. I don't mean to be a negative Nancy, but it seems unlikely that the damage that occurred to the device would have happened if it had been packaged properly. I'm not blaming you specifically (it could have been sloppy minimum wage UPS employee work ethic), but that looks like it had been dropped with absolutely no packing material around it.

When I shipped my device back to Pioneer for warranty service, I wrapped it in 4 layers of bubble wrap, and then air pillows that I had from another package, and then peanuts on top of all of that.

One thing you have to consider with UPS is that they are permitted to drop your package from a 6 ft lift. I think FedEx is a little more gentle with packages, but it can also cost more too. I prefer UPS + my own extreme packing job.

  4. Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, is this an issue with the 3.0X firmware that downgrading to 2.6 fixes or am I don't something weird?

I don't think it's exactly something wrong with the 3.0 firmware, but rather has something to do with shutting down the system while it's doing something... I think. Or it could be completely random.

All I know is that it seems to be relatively common place on this forum, as in a bunch of people have had it happen. I don't know of anyone that has had it happen more than once though.

The only thing I can think of likening it to is unplugging an external hard drive from your computer before it's ready to be unplugged. Many times you can get away with it... but eventually you're going to have data loss. That's my only guess. Pioneer didn't tell me. They just fixed it.

But for sure, reverting back to 2.06 firmware fixes it for the F-Series, so I'd assume it's similar for the X-Series since they're virtually identical. If I were you, I would call up Pioneer and ask for sure what to do. Just be sure, if asked, that you "can't watch video while driving". If you did the bypass, software or hardware, they'll blame you. Just tell them you didn't do anything to it, and you're good to go :)

  5. You have 2 options. Buy multiple SD cards and download the Firmware 2.06 from the thread on this subject on this forum. OR pay 9 bucks shipping to send your unit to Pioneer and they'll do it for you for free.

I opted for the second, since the cost is less than buying multiple SD cards, hoping I don't completely brick the unit to the point where it's not repairable, and having it be obvious to Pioneer that I tried to fix it myself instead of sending it in for warranty work.

  6. ayed Info
there is a mute nav mod that works great' date=' the one that i use was in CMH's all in one mod. it put a button on the left side of the screen that will mute the nav when you want, which is great when i need to pull off the highway for a minute to get gas and dont want to listen to recalculating, recalculating, recalculating...[/quote']

Thanks... I will have to download the CHM Mute, ..... the other thing i would like is to put a background behind the left side of the "Displayed Info" screen so it can read more easily, has anyone done that yet?

I'm not sure if it's been fixed in a mod, but it has been fixed in the 3.0 firmware/map upgrade. Not that that helps you if you don't want to buy it, but I'm just stating that it has been officially addressed by Pioneer :)

  7. Thanks for the info! I checked out the update on youtube and there is nothing special about the update at all :(. The only difference is newer maps. You would figure that if Pioneer charges $120 US for the update, that they would at least improve the UI some and make it look better, god it looks like it was designed by some kid in his basement. I am going to try to mod the shit out of it so that at least I will feel semi-good about spending $60 ($75 cdn) on it :)

it's already up to $99 now in the US.

  8. Yes, it is.
I think you are missing the point. I want to know WHY the update is worth it! I have some great mods installed on my 2.0 version. There are not to many mods available for the 3.0 except for some NAV mods. I just dont want to go back to that crappy UI of Pioneer, that looks just to plain. What features does the 3.0 version have that is better than the 2.0? All I am reading is responsiveness and a better NAV system. If that is it, I dont see the point of giving up some of these great mods that are available. Can you please be more specific, Thanks

The MSN Direct feature connects 100% of the time now, instead of rarely with the previous firmware.

Button response time is much much faster.

BT is arguably more buggy, though you can still go through the menus while on a call (big plus!)

Hardware Bypass still works just fine.

Maps are now the exact same as Google Maps' current maps (they use Teleatlas 2009 as well). POIs are much more accurate.

The flip side is that the longer you wait to upgrade, the more the price is going to go up (up to $120). So it's kind of a moot point.

  9. What am I doing wrong? Everything seemed to work fine but... My splashscreen loads and my music plays but my actual nav just gets stuck in the "system loading screen" and resets itself every 3 minutes. So frustrating! I don't know if it makes a difference but all of the files were downloaded to a mac then transferred to my SD card. Don't know if there is any mac conflicts with these files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. How do I get this thing to work? I am going to have to start from scratch?

    Thanks

Somebody please help...I have a completely useless unit at this point.

Send it to Pioneer. They'll fix it for free. Doesn't get any easier than that.

  10. So I've had this unit for awhile now and had it installed by a company that could perform the mod, they've installed a few other Navi before and have been just fine. Question is, Pioneer shows that the F-90 has buildings on the map, etc but mine doesn't do any of that. I read that some places aren't always like that but when I drove to D.C. I got nothing, West Virginia got nothing and back to Hampton, VA which has nothing. Am I missing something here? I'm driving from VA to TX during the holidays and I expect to see more of nothing but if the damn thing can't show buildings in the DC area where can it?

There is a setting for 3D Buildings in the device, I believe. You don't need to hack it or anything. Just look through the settings. Maybe it's turned off for some reason.
