  1. The directions may be a bit hard to find since they've been on here for so long but rest assured they are around. If you can't find a link to the latest version of testmode then send me a PM. That probably means it's about time to upload them again and I'll be happy to do it

  2. I spent a lot of time looking for this information but with no luck. I finally decided to bite the bullet and find out myself. So for anyone who wants to know how much electricity the unit is using here's the information I gathered and the method I used.

I had already installed the unit making it impractical to connect my meter in between the radio and the car hookups so I removed the battery cable and installed it there. To my surprise, my car was drawing 2.8 amps while not running but with the doors open. Most likely a result of internal lights and other systems which activate to keep the car from being stolen. One advantage of this method is the ability to capture all electricity consumed by the radio when the system is running regardless of power routing.

    Baseline Amps Watts Description

    Car Only 2.8 0

Startup 3.7 0.9 11.34 Fluctuated between .9 Amps and 1.8 Amps until the unit was ready

All Off 3.7 0.9 11.34 Radio and Screen turned off, No Route Planned

    Radio-Ipod 4.2 1.4 17.64 Playing Audio from the Ipod

    Radio-FM 4.5 1.7 21.42 Playing Audio from the Radio

    Radio-DVD 4.6 1.8 22.68 Playing Audio from a DVD

    DVD-Video 4.7 1.9 23.94 Playing Video from a DVD

It's safe to say the F90BT uses between 1 and 2 Amps regardless of what state it's in. To me this is a very reasonable amount for a "standby" mode where the unit screen is simply turned off when not in use. Since car batteries have around 50 Amp Hours there is very little chance of the car dying over dinner and even over night. However there may not be enough power left to start the car which is pretty important. I'll test it this weekend when I have access to a friend and some jumper cables.

Let me know if you spot something inaccurate about my results!

  3. in case anyone hasnt pointed it out, hibernation needs the amount of non-volatile memory equal to what is currently in-use in the system. Hibernate (or sleep) works by pausing the OS to save anything loaded in resident memory to the harddrive. When it unhibernates, all this is read, put back into memory and then unpaused. This means that the AVICs would need to come out with another flash or some other non-volatile storage device to keep the hibernation image. I doubt they have enough flash storage available to do something like this.

It's important to reiterate the difference between Hibernate and sleep since the words are confused in several places on the forums. Sleep is a low power consumption state where the hardware is still running. Hibernate is a dump of RAM to Long-term storage and then all hardware is shut off. The difference is basically speed of reinitialize. Hibernate would do almost nothing for start up time while sleep could make all the difference.

    A Possible Soultion for Stops

Could a smaller 12v Battery (Say a marine battery) be wired in parallel with a toggle switch to the power input of the AVIC? Then before turning off the car simply toggle the switch "on" ensuring the AVIC doesn't realize the car has turned off and continues to draw power from the backup battery. When the car is running the backup battery will be charged by the alternator just like the main battery and when the unit needs to be turned off for long periods just flip the switch. It's also possible to turn off the screen to increase the battery time of the backup battery through the built in "System Settings"1 menu.

  4. I don't know specifically what you need but if you go through the Upgrade to version 3 procedure again all the files you mistakenly deleted should be copied again. You will have to reinstall any Mods and change any settings but it's a small price to pay I think.

  5. Hello,

I'm new to modding here. I just installed this and it looks as promised, however, under the POI icon on the menu the first three buttons all bring me to the save POI search menu, but the only button at the bottom is save criteria. When you press this it reboots the machine. There is no actual menu option to search for a POI.

These mods are excellent! My thanks go to everyone who has worked on them.

I'm having a similar response on my f90bt 3.01 that dhp did. Any POI icon takes me to a POI menu without the search function and save criteria causes the system to reboot (my CD kept playing so it seems just the display and related processes rebooted)

If this is an issue someone has solved could they send me a message. If not, can someone point me in the direction of the file I should go about modifying when I try to fit it myself tomorrow?

    Thanks,

    Stevfuri
